BARBER - Arthur James (Jim) Barber of Springside, SK was born October 9, 1931. He was the third child and only son of five children born to Jack and Ina Barber. Jim was born on the family farm at Springside. During his childhood days, Jim helped with farming chores (milking cows, feeding chickens, etc.). He attended Springside School. Upon leaving school, he did harvesting and field work for some of the neighbours. In his early 20s, Jim left the farm and in the summer worked on the pipelines in Southern Saskatchewan and in the winter travelled to Ontario to work at bush camps. In his spare time, Jim loved going to community dances and would catch the train to Theodore and Insinger with his buddies. He met Sharon Willis who later became his wife in 1958. Two years later

his son, Nelson was born and his daughter, Lori, was born in 1962. Jim continued helping at the family farm, but was also a jack of all trades and worked at Korb Motors, Morris Rod-Weeder, a local telephone company and drove truck for Coca Cola in Yorkton. He also worked at the radar base in Orcadia and for Albert Barsi doing caterpillar work. In the early 60’s, Jim took over the family farm and farming became his full-time job until he retired in 1998. While farming, he also drove grader for the Orkney Rural Municipality for two years. In 2008, Jim sold the farm and moved to the Town of Springside where he resided until his passing. Jim was a member of the Legion, Lions and Wheat Pool Committee. His hobbies included snowmobiling, woodworking, golfing, fishing and hunting, reading, trapping and he was a darn good guitar player and yodeler. He also enjoyed Scottish Country dancing and evening card playing with family, friends and neighbours. Jim had a great sense of humor - he had a number of great sayings, some of which included: - six of one and half a dozen of the other - blind in one eye and can’t see out of the other - a blind man would be glad to see that - We’ll see.....Jim passed away peacefully on April 22, 2015 at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre. Jim was predeceased by: Parents: Jack and Ina Barber; Parents-in-law: Charlie and Alice Willis and four brothers-in-law: Terry Willis, Ed Skene, Percy Jorgenson and Bill Bucsis. Jim is survived by his wife, Sharon; children Nelson (Anne Marie) and their children Sharisse McNab (Alex), Rebecca and Jessica and Lori Kardynal (Mark) and their children Graham (Rachelle) and Melanie. His great-grandchildren: Alyah & Ethan Kardynal and Talon & Gage McNab. Sisters: Nellie Bucsis, Dorothy Skene, Pat Jorgenson and Flo Guba (Ed); brother-in-law, Wayne Willis (Barb); sister-in-law, Lorrey-Gale Nerland and numerous nieces and nephews. A Memorial Service was held on Monday, April 27, 2015 from the Chapel of Christie’s Funeral Home in Yorkton, SK with Reverend Bradley Wudrich officiating. Jim’s grandchildren shared words of remembrance and also shared a pictorial tribute in their Grampa’s memory. Special taped music selections included, “The Old Rugged Cross” - Alan Jackson, “How Great Thou Art” - Hillsong, “Amazing Grace - My Chains are Free” - Chris Tomlin and “Rise Again” - The Rankin Family. Following a reception in Gunn Room at Christie’s Funeral Home, the Cremation Committal took place in the Springside Town Cemetery with Jim’s son, Nelson Barber serving as the urn bearer. Friends so wishing may forward their condolences to the family by visiting www.christiesfuneralhome.com. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Christie’s Funeral Home & Crematorium, Yorkton, Saskatchewan.

PLAN NUMBER 5-3-683

SUITE-IDEAL AS A MORTGAGE HELPER

This plans for this charming home include an optional basement with space for a second-ary suite, ideal as a mort-gage helper or to accom-modate adult children or aging parents.

A roomy verandah, flanked by painted pilas-ters, includes the porch and covered walkway that shelter the front door. To the left of the compact foyer is the third bedroom, with a view to the front garden. To the right is the laundry room and storage closet, while the great-room com-plex lies directly ahead through an archway.

The great room enjoys a gas fireplace, set in a corner to save space, as well as access to the partly-covered patio and the back garden beyond. Flowing into the great room is the dining area, which includes an optional buffet, always handy for storage and serving. A skylight will allow plenty of natural light to brighten this area.

The kitchen is sepa-rated from the great room

by a raised four-seat eat-ing bar, with work-space on the kitchen side. A window over the double sink is always a bonus. The L-shaped counter configuration will save steps for the cook, and the pantry will provide lots of room for canned goods and staples.

Also overlooking the back garden is the master bedroom, which features an extra-wide window sill, as well as an en-suite that includes double basins, a soaker tub and a glassed-in shower stall. The walk-in closet is reached through the en-suite.

The second and third bedrooms share a three-piece bathroom. A linen cupboard is located near the entrance to bedroom no. 2. Near the laundry room, which has access to the two-vehicle garage, a flight of stairs leads downstairs to the option-al suite.

Exterior finishes include board-and-bat-ten and wood shingles in the large gable at the front of the home, as well as wood siding, painted trim and brick accents.

This home measures 39 feet wide and 70 feet deep, for a total of 2,391

square feet. Ceilings on the main floor measure nine feet. The option-al suite measures 774 square feet.

Plans for design 5-3-683 are available for $795 (set of 5), $900(set of 8) and $1095 for a super set of 10. B.C. residents add 7% Prov. Sales Tax. Also add $35.00 for Priority courier charges within B.C. or $65.00 out-side of B.C. Please add 5% G.S.T. or 13% H.S.T. (where applicable) to both the plan price and postage charges.

Our NEW 47TH Edition of the Home Plan Catalogue containing over 400 plans is avail-able for $15.50 (includes taxes, postage and han-dling). Make all cheque and money orders pay-able to “JENISH HOUSE DESIGN LTD” and mail to:

Budget best is that it’s balancedThe best thing about

the 2015 federal budget is that it’s balanced and future generations won’t have to pay for it. Second best is the tax relief for small businesses who will use those savings to create jobs and drive growth. And the fed-eral government is bal-ancing the budget and lowering taxes while maintaining funding to Saskatchewan’s provin-cial government.

This balanced budget provides the opportun-ity to start climbing out from under more than $600 billion in federal debt. Right now every Canadian owes more than $17,000 as a personal share of the federal debt. There are kids in ele-mentary school who are seeing a balanced budget

for the first time and it’s sobering to consider that they will almost certainly take their own kids to school before the current debt is cleared.

The pain currently caused by this debt is considerable. The fed-eral government loses about $30 billion to inter-est payments every year. That’s more than $80 mil-lion per day that doesn’t go into hospitals or highways and it certain-ly doesn’t go back into family budgets through tax cuts.

This budget is pro-jected to post a modest surplus of $1.4 billion and that money is being dedicated to debt reduc-tion. That’s a small step forward on a mountain of debt, but it is a positive step nonetheless.

Debt reduction has to become a higher prior-ity in the future. Paying the mortgage is the first line item in every family budget, but paying down debt is always the last line item for the govern-ment’s budget. In this budget the only debt reduction comes from the leftovers found in the form of a small surplus.

Saskatchewan has 38,264 small businesses with 99 employees or less. Many of these busi-nesses will benefit as the federal small busi-ness tax rate falls from 11 per cent to 9 per cent by 2019. Governments aren’t good at creating jobs, but government can help by getting out of the way. When small businesses have a few extra dollars they expand and when they expand they create jobs. Tax relief for small business is one of the best ways to strengthen Canada’s economy.

This broad-based tax cut for small business stands in sharp contrast to the corporate welfare for the auto sector. The budget includes $100 mil-lion for the Automotive Supplier Innovation Program. Distorting markets by picking win-ners and losers is not the way to build a healthy economy. Further, add-ing new complexities to the densely tangled tax code puts a premium on aggressive accounting while stifling productiv-ity. The best tax cuts are broad-based and give taxpayers the ability to set their own priorities and maximize market opportunities.

The federal govern-ment held the line on personal taxes, but this budget strengthens a powerful tool Canadian families already use to protect their finan-cial security: Tax Free Savings Accounts (TFSA). TFSAs give Canadians the opportunity to grow their savings without the proceeds being eroded by taxes. In the past,

TFSA contributions were limited to $5,500 per year. The government is now raising the limit to $10,000. That’s a sound financial tool Canadians can use to save for retire-ment or renovations. It’s also a safety net in case of car problems or career setbacks.

There are those who decry the TFSA increase as forgone government

revenue and a conces-sion to the rich. They are wrong on both counts. First, government is not entitled to taxpayers’ money – the default is for our own money to stay in our own pockets. Second, the rich already have the financial flexibility and available expertise to minimize their tax liabil-ities while middle-class Canadians benefit great-

ly from this simple and accessible opportunity to protect their savings.

Balancing this budget is a significant achieve-ment, but the govern-ment has yet to conquer its spending problem. The Conservative gov-ernment has already significantly increased spending since taking office. This budget shows government spending will grow at an alarming place. By 2019-20, spend-ing will rise by another 16 per cent or $48 billion.

If Canada is to return to financial health by

paying down debt, hold-ing the line on spendingisn’t enough: govern-ment must cut waste andreduce overall spending.

This federal budget makes Canada stronger. It achieves balance and starts to reverse the slide into debt. It pro-vides tax relief to smallbusinesses. It provides families with expanded TFSAs and maintainstransfer payments to theSaskatchewan govern-ment. Our kids will payfor past deficits, but thisbudget may mean our grandkids won’t be pay-ing for new debts.
