LIEBRECHT - Irene - June 17, 1926 - Feb. 1, 2016God’s Garden

God looked around his gardenand found an empty place,

He then looked down upon the earthand saw your tired face.

He saw the road was getting roughand the hills were hard to climb. So he closed your weary eyelidsand whispered, ‘Peace be thine’.

He put his arms around youand lifted you to rest.

God’s garden must be beautifulHe always takes the best.

It is with heavy hearts, but also thankfulness for a long and well lived life, the family announces the peaceful passing into God’s Garden of our Mother, Grandmother, Aunt and Friend, Irene Liebrecht on February 1, 2016. Irene was born on the family farm June 17, 1926 in the Wallace District of Rhein, SK, the daughter of Mary (nee York) and Alex Schwartz. She was baptized, confirmed and married in the Lutheran Faith at the Christ Lutheran Church in Rhein. She attended the Rhein School, com- pleting Grade 8, with spelling one of her favorite subjects. She continued working on her parent’s farm until at the age of 19 was united in marriage to a handsome neighbour, Walter Liebrecht, on July 1, 1945. The union was blessed with four children - Judy, Ernie, Joyce and Robert. Irene and Walter made their home on their farm, working together for nearly 65 years, raising their family and enjoying farm and community life. Some of Irene’s fondest memories are the earlier years which she spent with her mother and neighbour, picking berries, gardening, and helping each other on their farms. After Walter’s passing in 2012, Irene remained on the farm with her son Robert until April of 2014. Following a brief time in the Kamsack Nursing Home, Irene had been a resident of the Yorkton & District Nursing Home since November of 2014. Irene took great pride in her cooking and baking, both German and traditional. Family and friends will always have lasting memories of their favourite foods she made, and there was always room for one more around the dinner table to sample her talents. While some are said to have a green thumb, Irene had “ten green fingers” and large gardens of vegetables and beautiful flowers flourished under her care for decades, the canned produce of which lined her shelves for winter months. Also tended under her watchful eye were yearly flocks of chickens, geese, ducks and turkeys - the latter of which graced many a Christmas table throughout the district. Never an idle hand, evenings and spare hours were spent knitting beautiful sweaters, afghans, and patch-work quilting. Irene had a love and respect for the land and nature, wild flowers and all animals both farm and other. Many a cat, dog, bird and whatever other creature presented to her were saved by home remedies to live another day. As a farm woman, Irene was an avid weather watcher and faithfully recorded daily weather conditions on yearly calendars to serve as a future references. Irene kept her faith close to her heart and was a long and active member of the Christ Lutheran Church in Rhein in many capacities, including Sunday School and Vacation Bible School Teacher, choir member, bible studies and the ELW association in which she enjoyed the fellowship and annual conferences at different churches in the province. Throughout their years, Irene enjoyed the many “road trips” she and Walter made throughout the prairie provinces visiting relatives, friends and historical sites. Daily trips were also made to town for tea with friends and neighbors at the Rhein Hotel, or a game of cards at the Golden Agers. During all her life, Mom maintained a very strong work ethic and faced all of life’s challenges with strength, courage and selflessness. Left to cherish her memories and celebrate her life with love and gratitude are her children: daughter Judy (Don) Leikam of Peace River, AB; son Ernie (Valerie) Liebrecht of Yorkton; daughter Joyce Liebrecht of Regina; son Robert Liebrecht of Rhein; grandchildren: Michelle Leikam of Peace River, AB; Heather Leikam of Toronto, ON; Lennon Leikam (Devin) of Peace River, AB; a brother-in-law Harold Liebrecht of Leduc, AB; as well as special nieces, nephews, relatives, neighbours and friends. The funeral service was held on Friday, February 5, 2016 from Christ Lutheran Church in Rhein with Rev. Karen Stepko officiating. The eulogy was given by Gail Ross. Organist Ruth McPhee led the congregation in the singing of the hymns, ‘Just As I Am’, ‘Lord, Take My Hand and Lead Me’, ‘I Love to Tell the Story’’ and ‘How Great Thou Art.’ Soloist Sharon Coleman sang, ‘Ava Maria’ and ‘The Lord’s Prayer.’ Honourary bearers were all who shared in her life. The interment took place in the Christ Lutheran Parish Cemetery with Barron Stricker, Jason Stiglitz, Lennon & Heather Leikam, and Ernie & Robert Liebrecht serving as the casket bearers. Memorials were to the Church, condolences can be left at baileysfuneralhome.com.

They remained his favourite treat. He also enjoyed watching hockey, football, curling and baseball. He would have loved to see the Blue Jays win the series this year. He married Ruth (Gieze) in 1950. They were life-long partners who believed in their marriage vows and honoured each other

through richer and poorer, sickness and health... until the end. They were blessed with five children. He loved to pick and eat fresh oranges, attend estate sales and sit on the patio soaking up the sunshine. Harvey and Ruth made many dear friends in Sun City. They enjoyed volunteering with their church and the community. Harvey always said that he lived a full life and was very blessed. He loved God and said many times that “the good Lord will take care of us all.” He reminded us that life here on Earth is short, but eternity is forever. The family takes great comfort in knowing that he felt this way. We know that his suffering at last is over and that he is in heaven watching over us and reminding us to live a Christian life. SAMPLE - The Russell family of Castlegar, BC wish to remember and celebrate the life of their relative, John Victor Sample who passed away on February 2, 2016 at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre, Yorkton, SK. John was born during a snowstorm on October 16, 1930 on the family farm in the Good Hope District, South of Yorkton, SK, the son of William “Cyril” and Esther (nee Ward) Sample, a brother for Monica Mary Sample (born May 18, 1922 in Melville, SK). John received his education at Good Hope School and achieved Grade 10 by corre- spondence. He spent his working life farming the home quarter section and was successful at raising turkeys. John’s hobby was reading and he liked westerns by Zane Grey and Max Brand. John’s middle name was Victor, named after his mother’s brother, George Victor Ward who was killed in France in 1918 during the First World War. John recalled hearing the news of

Adolf Hitler’s invasion of Russia on June 22, 1941 and hearing Winston Churchill speak on the radio. He was at the Bert and Lil Cook farm near Binscarth, MB where his sister, Monica was working. The events of World War II and the Holocaust made a lasting impression on John. John’s father, known as Cyril, was born on August 17, 1888 in Whitby, Yorkshire, England with a twin sister, Norah and was trained as a Pharmacist before immigrating to Saskatchewan in 1909. Cyril married Esther Ward in St. Henry’s Church in Melville, SK on August 14, 1921 and they began their life farming. Cyril’s father, William Samuel Sample, had been a master mariner out of Whitby but was accidentally drowned in the harbour of Marseille, France at the age of 40 years. John had strong moral values and he didn’t drink or smoke. He read the Bible but had no preference for church attendance. He looked after his parents on the farm and in their home at 77 Laurier Avenue in Yorkton, where they moved in 1958. John was a good uncle to his nephews, John and Bill Russell and a life long friend of the Cooper family who farmed in the Good Hope District and also the James Richards family. John was predeceased by his father, Cyril (1965) and his mother, Esther (1979) and his brother-in-law, Frank Russell (2001) of Castlegar, BC. The Frank and Mary Russell family wishes to acknowledge the friendship of John and Viola Stricker formerly of Laurier Avenue in Yorkton for the help they gave John for many years, especially during medical treatment. We also want to thank neighbour Janet Sharp and her son, Scott, as well as Glen Brown for the help that they gave John throughout the years. We owe a debt of gratitude to Dr. Choi who treated John for a prostate problem, his dentist, Dr. Bode and Dr. Smith who performed his cataract surgery. Our appreciation also goes to the staff of Sacred Heart Assisted Living as well as Dr. Oduntan and the nursing staff at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre for their care in the final days of John’s life. John is fondly remembered by his relatives and all who knew him. Donations in John’s memory may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation as tokens of remembrance. Friends so wishing may forward their condolences to the family by visiting www.christiesfuneralhome.com. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Christie’s Funeral Home & Crematorium, Yorkton, Saskatchewan.

PLAN NUMBER 1-2-661

ATTRACTIVE TWO BEDROOM BUNGALOW

In this attractive two-bedroom bungalow, com-pact size doesn’t matter, because the plans fea-ture all the amenities that a contemporary fam-ily would wish for.

Entry is via a covered porch and through a door with a window and side-light. The foyer includes a coat closet to the imme-diate right. Just beyond is the open-plan great-room complex.

Natural light will stream into the dining area, which occupies its

own niche and boasts windows on three sides. The great room boasts a gas fireplace, as well as a doorway to the partly-covered deck overlooking the back garden, where year-round grilling will be an easy option.

The kitchen is sepa-rated from the dining area by an L-shaped island and four-seat eat-ing bar, and the kitchen sink faces the dining room windows. A pan-try is located near the entrance to the laundry room, which includes a useful storage space.

To the left of the great-room entrance is a stair-

well, protected by rail-ings, to an optional base-ment.

The sleeping wing is separated from the foyer by an archway. The master bedroom boasts French doors that open onto a sun deck, a con-tinuation of the covered deck beyond the great room.

The en-suite includes a soaker tub, set in a cor-ner with two windows to let in natural light, as well as double basins and a shower stall. A commo-dious walk-in closet with built-in shelving com-pletes the lay-out.

The second bedroom,

well-separated for noise from the master suite, features a bay window with an extra-wide sill that overlooks the front garden. A three-piece bathroom is situated nearby, together with a linen closet.

Exterior finishes include horizontal siding that contrasts with the vertical board-and-bat-ten siding in the gables. Brick accents and paint-ed woodwork lend the facade character.

This home measures 48 feet wide and 53 feet deep, for a total of 1,481 square feet of living space on the main floor. Ceilings rise nine feet throughout.

Plans for design 1-2-661 are available for $655 (set of 5), $710(set of 8) and $754 for a super set of 10. B.C. residents add 7% Prov. Sales Tax. Also add $35.00 for Priority courier charges within B.C. or $65.00 outside of B.C. Please add 5% G.S.T. or 13% H.S.T. (where applicable) to both the plan price and postage charges.

Our NEW 47TH Edition of the Home Plan Catalogue containing over 400 plans is avail-able for $15.50 (includes taxes, postage and han-dling). Make all cheque and money orders pay-able to “JENISH HOUSE DESIGN LTD” and mail to:
