B9 Yorkton This Week | www.YorktonThisWeek.com | Wednesday, July 15, 2015 WUSSOW - Francis Woodrow Wussow (Chuck) was born in Churchbridge, SK on July 4, 1920, the son of Ludwig and Edith Wussow. He passed away at St. Anthony’s Hospital in Esterhazy, SK on Wednesday, July 8, 2015 at 95 years and 4 days of age, after a brief illness. Chuck received all his education in Churchbridge. After working at various jobs around home, he joined the Army in 1942 and served his country in WWII until 1945. After his return from overseas, Chuck married Phyllis Bergren on January 12, 1946 in Yorkton, SK. They settled into farming two miles north of Church- bridge, where they resided for 38 years and raised their three daughters. People and community were important to Chuck. He was councillor and Reeve for the RM of Churchbridge 211, chairman of the Langenburg Hospital Board, chair- man of Arena Board, 4-H Horse Club leader and Lions member to name a few. He had a great love for horses and went for a horseback ride every summer, even when he was well into his eighties. He always had horses on the farm. Chuck was an avid supporter of his grandchildren’s sports, especially hockey and ball. He watched sports on TV frequently, as well as current news events. MacLean’s was one of his last subscribed magazines. He read biogra- phies from the Churchbridge Library after his move to the Lodge. In 1981, Chuck and Phyllis semi-retired, built a new house in Churchbridge and moved into town. After Phyllis passed away, Chuck remained in the house until 2009, then moved into the Heritage Manor until 2013. He lived at the Morris Lodge in Bangor from August, 2013 until he was hospital- ized three days before his death. Chuck was predeceased by his wife Phyllis in 2007; his parents and his two sisters, all his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. He leaves to mourn his passing his daughters: Janice (Don) Johnston of Calgary, AB, Connie (Russ) Sakundiak and Candice (Brian) Swanson of Churchbridge; eight grandchildren, Troy, Todd and Sharla Sakundiak, Cody (Maureen Wood) Johnston and Kirk Johnston, Jenilee (Darren) Melnyk, Clint Swanson, Marcy (Brandon) Eskra; two great-grandsons, Hunter Sakundiak and Marlow Johnston, as well as his nieces and nephews. Funeral Services were held on Monday, July 13, 2015 from the Chapel of Christie’s Funeral Home in Yorkton, SK with Kathy Novak serving as the Funeral Celebrant. Chuck’s granddaughter, Jenilee Melnyk, shared words of tribute and eulogy in her grandfather’s memory. A special taped music selection, “I Want to Stroll Over Heaven With You” as sung by Alan Jackson was played. The organist, Carla Laycock, led the congregation in the singing of the hymn, “For the Fruit of All Creation” . Following a luncheon in the Gunn Reception Room at Christie’s Funeral Home, the Cremation Committal took place in the Churchbridge Town Cemetery with Chuck’s granddaughter, Marcy Eskro serving as the urn bearer. Friends so wishing may forward their condolences to the family by visiting www.christiesfuneralhome.com. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Christie’s Funeral Home & Crematorium, Yorkton, Saskatchewan. BARTLETT - Mr. Robert Bartlett of the Tonkin district, beloved husband of Marlene passed in his sleep on July 8, 2015 at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre. He was 85 years of age. Robert Guy Bartlett was born on the family farm April 28, 1930. He was the youngest of 5 children born to Henry and May (nee Bugler) Bartlett. He attended school at Anemone and attained his Grade 11 at the Yorkton Collegiate after which time took charge of the family farm. At a very early age he discovered that curling was his passion and he pursued it vehemently well into his 80’s finally giving it up because he could no longer get down in the hack and he wasn’t going to use that “stick thing” . He was a coach and mentor to many of the local curlers and Robert’s team advanced as far as the Saskatchewan Men’s finals in Swift Current. He was a draw-master in the old curling rink and when the club moved to its current location he was one of its first managers. Robert was a mixed farmer for much of his life and would run as many as 200 head of cattle every year. All were counted and checked on every morning and night making sure they were all healthy. Each new batch of feeders had the radio played loudly for them so they would settle in. In the late 70’s he rented out his land. As he could never stop farming he signed on as a farm hand and spent many peaceful hours going up and down the fields. Robert worked for Farrell’s Auction Service for 20 some years as a clerk. He would be in attendance at the auctions anyway so he might as well make some money to pay for the great treasures he would bring home. There are still some of his special treasures parked in the bushes at his home. He leaves to remember him, his wife of 54 years, Marlene; his two daughters Bev (Darren) Fuches and Joanne (Henning) Mortensen; three grand- sons, Spencer and Reid Fuches and Erik Mortensen; one sister, Sylvia (Russell) Bishop; one sister-in-law, Mildred Bartlett. He will be remembered fondly by numerous nephews, nieces and his many special friends. Robert was predeceased by a daughter (in infancy) Donna. Funeral Services were held on Monday, July 13, 2015 at Yorkton Memorial Gardens Family Centre with Crystal Bailey, Certified Celebrant as the officiant. A tribute and words of remembrance were shared by family friend, Lorne Niebergall. The musical selections, “Amazing Grace” , “How Great Thou Art” and “Beyond The Sunset” were included in the service. Grandsons, Spencer Fuches read the obituary and Erik Mortensen read a poem, ‘God’s Garden’ . Grandson, Reid Fuches served as the urn bearer. Memorials in memory of Rob may be made to the Tonkin Curling Club or to the Saskatchewan Cancer Agency for the Allan Blair Clinic as gifts of remembrance. FAMILY HOME WITH WOODWORK

The archway over the front entrance, a deep front porch, the curved extension of the highest gable and the decorative woodwork that frames the mullioned windows, all lend this three-bed-room family home an air of Victorian charm.

A covered porch leads through the front door into a large foyer. A den is on the right, adjacent to a two-piece powder room. A coat closet is sit-uated near the entrance to the great room.

Fitted into a bayed-out space near the back of the house, the great room boasts a dramatic vaulted ceiling, as well as a fireplace. Flowing seamlessly from this room is the dining room, occupying its own bayed-out area, which has access to a covered deck, the perfect spot for year-round barbecuing.

The kitchen is sepa-rated from the other family rooms only by a raised eating bar and island, ensuring the cook will never feel isolated. The L-shaped counter configuration promises

more than adequate work space, and a pantry provides extra storage. A window over the kitchen sink overlooks the back garden.

From the kitchen, a doorway leads to a spa-cious laundry room, with a coat closet located near the entrance to the dou-ble garage, where there is enough room for a size-able workshop. Part of the garage has an extra-high ceiling, ideal for an RV or other over-height vehicle.

Up the U-shaped stair-way, a railed vestibule area allows a glimpse of the great room below. The master suite, over-looking the back garden, features a large walk-in closet. The en-suite, in a bayed-out area, offers a touch of luxury in the form of a shower stall and a soaker tub, plus double basins.

The second and third bedrooms share a bath-room, also with double basins. The third bed-room features a window with an extra-deep sill.

Exterior finishes include wooden shingles, painted trim, decorative wooden detailing and stone accents.

This home measures

45 feet, four inches wide and 57 feet deep, for a total of 2,230 square feet of living space.

Plans for design 7-3-945 are available for $795 (set of 5), $900 (set of 8) and $984 for a super set of 10. B.C. residents add 7% Prov. Sales Tax. Also add $35.00 for Priority courier charges within B.C. or $65.00 outside of B.C. Please add 5% G.S.T. or 13% H.S.T. (where applicable) to both the plan price and postage charges.

Our NEW 47TH Edition of the Home Plan Catalogue containing over 400 plans is avail-able for $15.50 (includes taxes, postage and han-dling). Make all cheque and money orders pay-able to “JENISH HOUSE DESIGN LTD” and mail to:

Offer your special service with a low-cost, effective This Week Classified Ad. There’s always a sale in progress — in the Classifieds.

Yorkton can be a breeding ground when it comes to rumours, but sometimes when you see smoke there is fire. Of course, there is a lot of smoke and fire in La Ronge and one of the rumours last week con-cerns that very issue. A couple of sources, who I deem to be reliable, informed me that when the military was headed up north to help battle the blazes; they were considering spending a night in Yorkton. Hotels, obviously, are not an option so it is alleged that an inquiry was made and provisions were set to get them in to the Farrell Agencies Arena. My sources tell me a fee was associated with any stay and while I would rather not publicize the amount (because it’s tough to ver-ify that unless it comes straight from the horse’s mouth), I can tell you it was enough to offend me to the point where I wondered why we, as a city, would charge any dollar amount at all to the military, especially in an emergency and a time of need. I’d go a step further and offer a free breakfast before they headed back out on the highway. Because my column is such that it’s an opinion and not fact; I don’t usually make ‘reporter like’ phone calls or send emails to check out a story; but in this case I did. Mayor Bob Maloney said the military never confirmed they were coming and the last communication was that they were going to travel straight through to La Ronge. Maloney also says, “If they had asked council to waive fees there would not have been any issues with that; but no requests were made to my office.”

I sure wish I could offer an opinion on the Confederate Flag and

its mass removal from society. The fact is that I have no idea what the flag even means. I feel like the American who thinks Yorkton is close to Montreal. I just hope it’s not a case of over-reacting because some guy with a few screws loose posed with it before going on a shooting spree. If that’s the case, it may be time to remove Gold’s Gym from our lives too as he was wearing one of their shirts.

Zodiac Seats France is one of the biggest manu-facturers of airplanes in the world and they have filed a patent for face-to-face seating because they feel with their design, you can herd more cat-tle — I mean jam more people on to the air-craft. I’ve seen pictures. Basically, it’s a triangle. You have two seats facing north and one facing south in between the two facing north. Awkward. A social media commenta-tor made me laugh when he said he wants to pat-ent the idea of drugging all passengers and just throwing them on top of one another and stacking human beings to the ceil-ing in order to fit more people.

There is a fascin-ating situation in the NBA where the Dallas Mavericks thought they had a 4-year, $81-million contract with DeAndre Jordan; only to find out Jordan changed his mind before sign-ing his contract and he ended up going back to his previous team, Los Angeles Clippers, instead. Apparently, the NBA allows for a win-dow whereby you can announce that you have signed players; but they don’t actually put ink to paper for a week. Jordan, it’s believed, decided either with or without influence from the Clippers; that he had a change of heart and wanted to return to his previous team. One of the issues is that Jordan never even called the Mavericks to tell them. Another issue is that in sports, a hand shake agreement is (normally) just as binding as a written contract when it comes to agents mak-ing deals with teams. In this case, it’s believed Jordan’s agent couldn’t reach his client and Jordan did all of this on his own (with help from the Clippers, of course). My take is that Jordan isn’t a guy I’d want on my team as I’m not sure if he’s really on my side. He’s too wishy washy. Secondly, any grown man that can’t make a phone call to say he’s decided against his original deci-sion isn’t a grown man. I can appreciate the handshake agreement as much as anyone, but a deal isn’t a deal until it’s signed.
