Jane is a beautiful, sweet 43 year-old nurse and looking for the right man. Jane has never been married, has no children, and no baggage. She loves football, hockey, going to concerts, and being outdoors. She is very down to earth, and easy to get along with. She is a great listener and always wants to help others. Jane is a very charitable person; she donates and volunteers for many causes including children’s charities and animal shelters. Jane doesn’t drink or smoke, she is not one to go to bars, and she

has had a hard time meeting the right person in her small community. She is always up to try new things and is open to new experiences. She’s a bit shy at first, and she is nervous about dating, but really wants to meet the right person to settle down with. She is very open and accepting of people, she’s non-judgmental, and cares more about who someone is on the inside rather than the outside. She is looking for a good man who is energetic, fun, adventurous, has a good sense of humor, is down-to-earth, and a little bit romantic.

Gables always make a house seem extra homey, and this multi-gabled three-bedroom family residence is no excep-tion. In addition, the cross-bracing above the garage door, the deep eaves and the mullioned windows evoke the ever-popular Arts and Craft style.

Entry is up a couple of steps into a roomy foyer. A coat closet is located nearby, across from a powder room.

Immediately to the right of the foyer is a den, fea-turing French doors to a covered porch.

Through an archway is the great room, with a dramatic double-height ceiling and a fireplace. The dining room, open to the great room, occu-pies a bayed-out area and enjoys access to a spacious terrace — the perfect spot for al fresco summer meals.

The kitchen is separat-ed from the dining room by a prep island, so the cook will never feel iso-lated. The sink, set diago-nally into a corner, will

receive lots of light from windows on two sides. A walk-through pantry connects the kitchen to the laundry room. With a useful coat cupboard, as well as access to the double garage, the laun-dry room can double as a mud room.

A U-shaped flight of stairs leads to the second floor, a portion of which is open to the great room below. The master suite features a large window that overlooks the back garden. The walk-in clos-et is separated from the four-piece en-suite by a handy linen cupboard. A

shower stall and soaker tub in the en-suite add a touch of spa-like comfort.

The second and third bedrooms, separated by a three-piece bathroom, both enjoy an extra-wide window sill.

Ceilings measure nine feet throughout. The double garage is large enough to contain a com-pact workshop.

Exterior finishes include painted trim and wood siding, and the wooden pilasters that frame the front porch have stone bases.

This home measures 38 feet wide and 54 feet deep, for a total of 1,997 square feet of living space.

Plans for design 7-3-946 are available for $725 (set of 5), $820(set of 8) and $896 for a super set of 10. B.C. residents add 7% Prov. Sales Tax. Should build numbersView from the Cheap

Seats is kind of an exten-sion of the newsroom. Whenever our three regular reporters, Calvin Daniels, Thom Barker and Randy Brenzen are in the build-ing together, it is frequent-ly a site of heated debate. This week: Is hosting the Women’s World Cup of Soccer good for Canada.

North Americans can like it or lump it, but the most important sport in the world is soccer. It is the undisputed most popular sport in the world. And, even though hockey is still king domestically, we are the only country in the world where that is true.

Even the ridiculously scandal-plagued gov-erning body of the sport, FIFA, cannot dampen enthusiasm for the “beautiful game.”

Even in hockey-crazed Canada, more children now play soccer. And, by the way, more youth in Toronto are now playing the world’s second most popular sport, cricket, than our second in line, football.

The world is com-ing to Canada and it is

bringing its preferences with it. Global sports are overtaking our domestic ones. I am not making any value judgements. In general, I personally like watching hockey better than I do soccer. On the other hand, I would turn off Game 7 of the Stanley Cup for India Premier League cricket.

The Roughriders are still my number one, though, don’t worry about that.

I guess the point is, with respect to sports, as a country we are joining the global village.

But is soccer actually popular in all of Canada or just a few major cosmo-politan centres such as Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver, which have pro teams? I’d have to say yes. The opening game of the Women’s World Cup between Canada and China drew more than 53,000 fans to Edmonton’s Commonwealth Stadium, the biggest crowd ever to turn out for a Canadian national team in any sport. That’s right, in any sport.

And if you’ve ever been to the Gallagher Centre during the city’s registration nights, while every other sport, art, activity and service group entertains sporadic visits by curious parties, the Yorkton United Football Club grapples with end-less lineups.

Soccer critics dismiss the phenomenon on the basis that soccer is, of course, the most popu-lar sport because all you need is a ball to play it.

Inclusiveness is a criti-cism I quickly dismiss. It is not a weakness, it is a strength.

Is it good for Canada to host the Women’s World Cup of Football? Hell yes. And our girls are actually contend-ers. The way things are going, maybe our men will someday catch up as well. Sorry Calvin, pre-pare to be bored.

—Thom Barker

Canada is currently hosting the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

And that leaves the question of its impact in a country where soccer has not held the profile it does in other countries?

On a personal level I’ll admit I will spend more time writing this, unless Canada manages to make the final four, at which time curiosity would dic-tate I keep an eye on the games.

While I appreciate the game’s popularity world-wide, it makes sense since the game can be played with only a ball, and some space, mean-ing anyone can partici-pate from the rich of Vancouver to the poorest in villages anywhere in the world.

But Canada’s first game in the World Cup exemplified what I dis-like about the game. It was 90-plus minutes without a goal, and then determined on a penal-ty kick which is all but an assured goal in soc-cer (near 75 per cent in World Cup history).

That said the FIFA World Cup is a huge event for Canada to host. It puts our country a truly world stage, realistically only exceeded by past Olympics held here. That is a huge positive.

In terms of soccer in Canada it will raise awareness, and hopefully get more young people playing the game. I myself would chose alter-

nate sports, almost anyother sport, but I am also supportive of anything that gets people away from video games and cellphones long enoughto participate in a sport. This event could help that happen, which again is a major positive.

—- Calvin Daniels

The Women’s World Cup is taking place inCanada all over this greatnation with the exception of Toronto (thankfully) with games being played in Vancouver, Edmonton,Winnipeg, Ottawa,Montreal and Moncton.

But does it really matter to the majorityof Canada, or is it on asmaller scale like watch-ing women’s hockey - entertaining, but midget ‘AAA’ level without thephysicality?

Honestly I feel as ifit’s too early to deter-mine whether or not theWomen’s World Cup will be important to Canadain the long run. Sure, ithas people talking about soccer right now, but willit be a source of conver-sation a week, two weeksafter it’s over and donewith?

That really all dependson how the Canadian women do. If they make a long run through thetournament and reach the semi-finals or evenfinals then yes, it’ll beimportant to Canada.

If they get knocked outin the first round of theknockout stages then no, it won’t be significant or important to Canada.

The team needs to find success for this tour-nament to help soccer within the country.

But if they continue to play the way they have been through their first three games – and hope-fully they don’t – then no,it won’t be important toCanada.

—Randy Brenzen

Saskatoon Mayor Don Atchison is taking a bit of heat for not attending that city’s Pride Parade over the weekend. I’m not sure if I can word this in a way that comes across as non-offensive or not, but I don’t under-stand why he needs to be there. Why is his absence taken as an opposition to the Pride Parade? To my knowledge, he hasn’t taken a stance against it, he just hasn’t gone. It’s not his thing. He isn’t going to try and stop those folks from bring-ing awareness to their cause. He just isn’t going to be in the middle of it. I think that’s okay. To me, it appears as though organizers are trying to bully him into going and I admire Mayor Atchison for not attending.

The drunk driver of a stolen truck who killed two innocent 17-year-old kids and badly injured another has been sen-tenced for her offense and a judge has deemed the lives of those lost and hurt to be worth…wait for it…six years. The judge, who showed no apparent compas-sion for the families of those who don’t have loved ones anymore, felt enormous sympathy for the accused in this case. The judge said nobody cared for her while grow-ing up so it was not sur-prising that she did not have an opportunity to develop her own parent-ing skills. After she had a baby she started using hard drugs and alcohol and then entered into a relationship with domes-tic violence lost a second child when he was just

10-months old. She start-ed selling herself to pay for drugs and joined the Indian Posse. Well boo hoo. Who’s accountable for the death of these two teens? Because the accused had a bad upbringing, nobody? Seriously? If the person who did it isn’t respon-sible, maybe throw the parents in jail for raising a gang banging thief who murdered two innocent people.

Our system doesn’t recognize bad people anymore. Anyone who does something mean does it because of an ill-ness or because their parents didn’t raise them properly. A couple of weeks ago, there was an incident at the Yorkton Regional High School that was so serious, it shut down every single school in Yorkton as well as Melville for an entire afternoon. Parents were called, people were fran-tic. The accusation was that a gun was pulled during a car show. Well, a 20-year-old man has pled guilty and been given 12-months proba-tion. It was noted the man has been sick with a mental issue. Of course. 12-months probation. That ought to teach some-one else from pulling this stunt. Scary punishment.

Oh right, it’s not about thepunishment. It’s abouttrying to understandyour feelings of terroras a parent of someone who goes to school reallydon’t matter. You haveto feel bad for the youngman who caused the com-motion because he’s notfeeling well. The thou-sands of others affected really don’t matter.

If someone causes a school to be locked down and then pleadsguilty or is found guilty of the related offense was given a real lengthyjail term, do you thinkit would happen again in the near future? Isn’tpart of deterring crime the resulting punish-ment? Why do you thinkso many people speeddown the highway, but so many fewer people com-mit murder?

There has beenincreased chatter invarious social media cir-cles about a push to theCanadian government to ban smoking. I’m not asmoker, but I would notbe in favor of this. In fact, I’d even go so faras to suggest legalizing marijuana use and tax-ing the heck out of that too so that governments can have added revenue streams through peoplewho choose to engage insuch a thing.
