It was at that time that she met the love of her life, Maxwell Lester Aschim and they were married in 1956. They were blessed with three children, Michael, Cheryl and Suzanne. The family moved to Yorkton in 1965, where Violet worked as a Nurses’ Aide at the Yorkton Union Hospital for 30 years. Violet and Max loved to camp, fish and travel. They enjoyed many happy holidays to Florida, Hawaii, the Caribbean and most special of all, train trips across Canada. These train trips included Churchill, MB for the polar bear run. Violet loved to ride the train with her family, while Max held the driver’s seat and snuck his kids and grandchildren up to the engine to assist him. Violet had many passions. Her family always came first, but she also enjoyed baking, gardening, growing flowers, crafting at many Craft Shows with a highlight of decorating a tree for the Festival of Trees, year after year. Violet also loved to curl. She had a knack for the game and spent many weekends participating in bonspiels, while her family cheered her on from the stands. She was even deemed President of the curling club for many seasons. Violet was thrilled to spend time with her grandchildren, whether it was making them their favourite meal, cheering at their hockey games or just reading books, she was in her glory. She was incredibly passionate about Christmas - from decorating, to baking, to her truly special Christmas Eve meal, which included making sure everyone had a least one spoonful of kutia for good luck. Violet was a huge Saskatchewan Roughriders fan. She was crazy about football and could always be seen in Rider green on game day. After Max passed away, Vi moved to the Bentley Retirement Community where she spent many afternoons socializing, playing crib, watching football and making many friends. Violet moved to Saskatoon in June, 2015 to be closer to family. During the past year, she enjoyed many new experiences such as Folk Fest, Sunday family dinners at Michael’s, front row seats at River Dance, Zoo Christmas Light Show, Ukrainian Malanka, High Tea and an overnight stay in the Nottingham Suite with Cheryl and Alison, Chuckwagon Races, Musical Ride and many warm sunny afternoons with her family. Violet was well known for her class and great taste in fashion. She loved to dress in blingy, elegant pieces. Shopping was by far one of her favourite things, particularly at Tracy’s on Broadway in Yorkton. Whether it was shoes, jewellery or full outfits, she believed the more sparkle the better, it always matched the sparkle in her eye. Peacefully, in her sleep, Violet entered heaven on June 25, 2016 at the Royal University Hospital in Saskatoon, SK. Violet was predeceased by her daughter, Suzanne and her husband, Max. She leaves to mourn her children, Michael (Dawn) Aschim of Saskatoon, SK and Cheryl (Scott) Sherwin of Trochu, AB; her grandchildren, Tyler Sherwin, Kyle Aschim, Sean Aschim, Alison Sherwin and Kimberly Aschim. Funeral Services were held on Thursday, June 30, 2016 from the Chapel of Christie’s Funeral Home in Yorkton, SK with Reverend Kim Sherwin officiating. Prayers were held on Monday evening, June 27 and the Requiem Divine Liturgy was celebrated on Tuesday morning, June 28, 2016, all from St. Mary’s Ukrainian Catholic Church in Yorkton. Rev. Fr. Raymond Lukie, C.Ss.R. was the Celebrant. Cantor, Ed Pindus, assisted by Parish Choir members, led in the singing of the responses. The cross bearer was Courtney Propp and the Epistle-reader was Tamara Hoffman. The interment took place in the Garden of St. Luke at the Yorkton Memorial Gardens with Kyle and Matthew Hoffman, Corey Propp, Randy Pitz, Curtis Menzul and Barry Dilts serving as the casket bearers. Condolences can be left at baileysfuneralhome.com.

WARCOMIKA - Alvin Warcomika of Yorkton, formerly of the Willowbrook district, passed away on June 29, 2016 at the Regina General Hospital at the age of 63 years. Alvin Frederick Warcomika was born on December 8, 1952 at Yorkton, the son of Fred and Olga (nee Ursulak) Warcomika. Predeceased by his mother Olga (1979), brother Randy (1979), father Fred (2000) and sister Mary-ann (2005); Alvin leaves to cherish his memory his sister Darlene Allore of Calgary, nieces and nephews and numerous other relatives, neighbours and friends. Alvie’s passion for farming and hunting followed him throughout his life, even after moving to the city. He was an active member of the Saskatchewan Wildlife Federation, contributing to the preservation of the wetlands. He will be remembered for his quick wit and sense of humour. Alvie always had a piece of candy for his little friends and a drink for his older friends. Prayers were

held on Tuesday, July 5, 2016 at the Chapel of Bailey’s Funeral Home in Yorkton with Very Rev. Fr. Bohdan Lukie, C.Ss.R. of St. Mary’s Ukrainian Catholic Church officiating. The responses were led by Ron Wizniak. A gathering for family and friends was held on Wednesday, July 6 at the Willowbrook School. Memorials in memory of Alvin may be made to the Willowbrook Wildlife Federation. Condolences can be sent to the family at www.baileysfuneralhome.com.

PLAN NUMBER 2-3-701

T H R E E - S I D E D ENTRY HOME

This striking home, with its eye-catching turret and three-sided entry, will be an asset to any neighbourhood. And the inside lay-out is just as thoughtful as the exte-rior design.

An offset entrance under a covered porch, carousel windows and a pointed roof, together with an abundance of windows, a shake roof and fish scales in the roof peak give the house a touch of class.

Oval glass in the front door and windows on either side bring an abundance of natural light into the soaring foyer. Stairs up to the main floor lead to a great room that really lives up to its name. The entire family area stretches from the front to the rear of the house, providing generous open space for today’s informal life-styles.

A decorative half-wall separates the staircase from the great room, which features a large gas fireplace with option-al built-in entertainment units on either side.

In the dining area, an optional buffet will pro-vide extra space and a serving area for more formal meals. A sliding glass door opens to a sun deck with steps down to the back garden.

The kitchen will please the cooks in the family, offering plenty of countertop work-space, as well as a walk-in pan-try. A window with a view to the garden will make time spent at the

kitchen sink seem less taxing. A central island adds to more storage and work-space options and will seat four for quick snacks or casual meals.

The sleeping area is designed to encompass either three or four bed-rooms, depending on the plan chosen, the four or the three-bedroom. The three-bedroom layout includes a large master suite at the rear with a boxed-out window, a walk-in closet and an expansive ensuite bath-room with a soaker tub, shower and double van-ity. Bedrooms two and three at the front of the house share the main, three-piece bathroom.

In the alternative four-bedroom plan, space for the fourth bedroom is obtained by slightly reducing the size of the master suite, which still retains a gen-erous amount of space, with only a three-piece ensuite bathroom and a slightly smaller walk-in closet.

In this plan, bedrooms three and four occupy the front of the house and bedroom No. 2 is tucked between the mas-ter suite and the third bedroom. They share the three-piece central bath-room.

In both layouts, the bedroom adjacent to the stairway enjoys a view through the attractive carousel-shaped win-dows, as well as to the foyer below.

On the basement level, double doors mark the entrance to the den, which could serve as a home office. A good-sized laundry room includes a handy countertop for

folding clothes. The remainder of the base-ment is unfinished, offer-ing roughed-in plumbing for a three-piece bath-room and a layout for two extra bedrooms, still leaving plenty of space for a recreation area.

The house is 42 feet wide and 40 feet deep with 1,390 square feet of living space and an unfinished basement.

To order Plan No. 2-3-701 for the three bed-room layout or Plan No. 2-4-702 for the four-bed-room layout.

Plans for design 2-3-701 are available for $655 (set of 5), $710 (set of 8) and $754 for a super set of 10. B.C. residents add 7% Prov. Sales Tax. Also add $35.00 for Priority courier charges within B.C. or $65.00 outside of B.C. Please add 5% G.S.T. or 13% H.S.T. (where applicable) to both the plan price and postage charges.

Orlando not last tradegy

Until we are ready to admit what the prob-lems are, we are going to continue to see more and more of what we saw recently in Orlando and I am not optimistic mass shootings will stop anytime soon. I mean if twenty 7-year-olds being killed in a classroom doesn’t move America to, at least, study gun con-trol then nothing will. What’s worse is that we are so afraid of hurting people’s feelings that we also don’t want to address extreme reli-gion. Yes, I said extreme religion as opposed to extreme Islam. All forms of religion have fanatic-als and it’s long past time to clamp down on them. Furthermore, if a guy has done enough to be on an FBI watch list twice, then I’m going to suggest that’s enough to neutralize him in some way before a vio-lent act is committed. It’s too bad we are too stupid to realize a man can call 911 and proclaim what he’s doing and why and we still refuse to accept that as fact. Put your head in the sand and it will go away.

You can’t even reason with the pro-gun crowd. They don’t get it. My sug-gestion to gun owners is that if someone was to break into your house and steal a firearm and commit a murder, then you (as the owner) should be held to the same stan-dard as the person who actually did it. This has been met with amazing kick back, to which I can only say then you must not, truly, be storing your guns in a safe manner.

I wonder how many women are disgusted every time they sing the Canadian National anthem? ‘In All Thy Sons Command’, I’ve been told, is big-time offensive to women; although the last woman I asked about this said she thinks about her grandfather going to war. Somewhere, a guilt ridden man insists this woman is wrong and he’s going to win. The anthem will be changed. Take it to the bank. We have become beyond ridicu-lous in politically correct circles and yet nobody is willing to take leader-ship against this divisive stance.

Regina City Police were in the news last week for posing as pan-handlers and writing traf-fic tickets to motorists. The reactions appear to be mixed on social media. There are many who applaud clamping down on distracted driving, speeding, stop sign and traffic light violations, seatbelt rules, etc. My own personal reaction is also mixed. I feel there is nothing wrong with being deceptive to catch some-one breaking the law as long as the rules apply to everyone. But, we know that’s not the norm as courts have thrown out cases where elaborate stings (often called Mr. Big) have resulted in con-fessions for murder in matters where the perpe-trator didn’t realize he was telling his secrets to police officers. To me it’s all the same and when it comes to catching ‘real’ criminals (murderers, drug dealers, thieves, thugs, etc.) there should be a lot more leeway as compared to catching those who commit traffic offenses.

When it comes to traf-fic offenses, I’ve always maintained the intent is completely dishonest. It’s not in the name of safety. It’s in the name of cash. This doesn’t mat-ter to me, really, just be straight up about it. I’m not fooled. The reality is that if it was ‘safety’ that was the focus, police would be parked outside night clubs at 2am every Saturday night. They’d be sitting outside schools instead of up the street, three feet in front of the sign where the speed changes. In fact, have you ever seen a speed trap in an area where there isn’t a sign that indicates the speed changes? My favor-ite was a number of years ago when I was ticketed in Roblin for doing 66 in a 50. Truth is that it was a snowy Christmas Eve and I was doing 80 in a 100. The speed limit dips to 80 and then to 50 rather quickly as you come into the town from the west. The roads were slippery and I, gradually, lowered my speed in an effort to not slip on the highway. I even saw the cruiser as I approached and I did get pretty close to 50 just past the sign. No dice. Merry Christmas to me. I asked the officer if he paid any attention to the fact I was well under the speed limit when it was 100 and he said he didn’t care as little old ladies could be crossing the street. Yes, but I could plainly see there were none and I was being ‘safe’. His answer was ‘rules are rules’. I kept this motto in mind a few weeks later when he issued a press release about snow mobilers traveling on private property. I felt this wasn’t a news story and should be a pur-chased advertisement, so I ensured it never hit the radio airwaves. Hey, ‘rules are rules’.
