He was 81 years of age. Marion was born on July 10, 1934 on the family farm near Rama, SK; the 9th of 13 children born to Anton and Susan Novakowski (Fulawka) and the youngest of 5 boys. Marion attended Boxmore School in the Rama district, Buchanan School, a school in Glencoe, ON, when his family relocated east in 1946 for a few years then finally Marion attended Badgerdale School in the Tiny area when the family returned west in 1949. As a very young man Marion worked alongside his father and his brothers building many houses, service stations and country elevators in the Rama, Tiny and Buchanan areas, In 1958 Marion married the love of his life and lifelong partner of 58 years, Victoria Hryhoriw. The couple lived on a farm north of Tiny, SK. In 1960, the young couple moved to Yorkton and Marion began employment with Logan and Black Construction, now known as Logan Stevens Construction. During this time, the couple was blessed with five children. While remaining employed full time and farming in the Dunleath area, Marion built two houses, the first of which the family moved into with only four walls and the roof being complete. The second house was built next door after working hours, between farming and countless trips to Edmonton, Calgary, Penticton and Vancouver to visit relatives and friends. The family remained at their Yorkton home until 1973. At this time, they purchased a farm west of Rhein and Marion continued to farm and do carpentry work for Logan Stevens Construction. He eventually became self- employed and took on building and renovation projects to countless houses, garages and shops along with a couple of additions to their own home, Marion loved his new farm and could be seen caring for his livestock or out working the fields from early in the morning to well after the sun had gone down. In 2004, Vicki and Marion sold the farm and moved into their present home in Yorkton. After more renovations to their current home, Marion continued with his love of woodworking well into his retirement years. He used his creativity to manufacture many unique ornamental designs, including his signature barn wood cedar trunks that were for the most part given freely to friends and family. Marion remained busy in his workshop for days on end. Marion and Vicky enjoyed travelling and had the opportunity to do so, crossing Canada from the west coast to the east coast. They were able to watch the sunset in Hawaii, a trip that Pa spoke of often. Marion also enjoyed fishing and had many memorable outings with Peter and Isabelle Yerema and later with family and friends. Marion and Vicky always enjoyed a friendly competition over who caught the biggest fish. Due to poor vision in recent years, Marion was forced to discontinue his passion for working with wood and enjoyed time spent on the deck visiting and reminiscing with his children, grandchildren, relatives and friends. Marion enjoyed reading when his eyesight and proper light conditions allowed him to do so. Marion faithfully listened to his favourite television shows, one of which was a Catholic Daily Mass program. Marion was a religious man attending St Gerard’s Church for over 56 years and was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He was proud to be involved with building of the Grotto in Rama, SK. Marion will be truly missed and lovingly remembered as a kind, gentle and generous man who never spoke an unkind word towards any of God’s creations. Marion did not judge but rather found the good in every situation. Marion leaves to mourn his passing his greatest joys in life; his wife Vicki, who never wavered throughout Marion’s most difficult times, his children; Theresa (Peter) Muller, Cheryl (Brian) Neibrandt, Kevin (Jacquie) Novakowski, Darren Novakowski, Shawna (Rod) Dykes, his grandchildren; Evan (Kaely), John (Rebecca Neal) and Adam Neibrandt; Savannah (Travis Christensen), Meaghan (Joanou Deschenes Lacroix) and Lolah Muller (Brandon Henderson); Paige and Sarah Novakowski; Nikki Novakowski (great-grand- daughter Aliyah) and Roddy, Jacob and Isaac Dykes along with many relatives and friends. WASELENCHUK - Stan was born on April 14, 1927 in the Jedburgh district, to Jerry and Annie (Polegi) Waselenchuk. His only sibling was his sister, Minnie, who was four years older. Stan attended Rocky Dell School, where he was an excellent student, completing grade 10 by the age of 14; however, he chose to leave school to help on the family farm at that time. Stan loved all sports, but especially baseball and hockey. He played hockey for many years with the Jedburgh Eagles and later coached the Jedburgh Jets in the Bates Hockey League. It was one day while skating at the outdoor rink in Jedburgh that he noticed a pretty, young girl pretending to have trouble tying her skate laces. Dad skated over to help and we all know the rest. Stan and Olga were married on June 6, 1952. When Stan’s father, Jerry passed away in 1955, they took over the family farm, growing grain and raising cattle. Stan was one of the first to get into the exotic breeds of cattle, raising Simmentals. Stan and Olga were blessed with five children, Wes, Bonnie, Wayne, Wendy and Jeff. Stan and Olga loved to watch the kids play sports and drove all over the province to watch them competing in tournaments and sports days. But many Saturday nights were spent dancing - Stan and Olga and their dancing buddies would sometimes drive two hours or more to attend a dance if their favourite band was playing. Stan loved music and could carry a tune, although the musical gene stopped there. Stan and Olga retired to Yorkton in 1997 where they enjoyed their new house and yard. When Olga passed away in April 2012, Stan continued to look after himself and maintain the house, although he had been diagnosed with prostate cancer, which then spread to his bones. He underwent many chemotherapy treatments in Regina and always was optimistic and willing to try anything to beat the disease. In November 2014, he moved to Aspen Bluff Villa Care Home. There, he enjoyed the food, company and activities, until health issues and lack of mobility forced him to be hospitalized in late January of this year. He was transferred to Jowsey House Palliative Care in early March, and passed away last Thursday morning with his family by his side. Mary Ann Wilson Albert John (Jack) Wilson

WILSON - Mary Ann Wilson and Albert John (Jack) Wilson. Mary Ann Wilson (Hepburn) was born April 29, 1922 on the family farm north-west of Yorkton. After graduating from high school Mary attended Normal School in Regina where she received her teaching diploma. She began her teaching career in Torquay and then moved to Beaver School near Springside and finally taught at Orkney School near Yorkton. Albert John “Jack” Wilson was born January 16, 1915 on the family farm west of Springside. He attended school at Beaver and Crossroads. After completing Grade 8, Jack began working on the family farm with his father. They had a mixed farming operation raising grain, cattle, swine and poultry. While teaching at Beaver School, Mary met Jack and they began courting. They were married July 11, 1946 in an intimate ceremony at the home of Mary’s sister, Jessie Hancock, in Yorkton. After honeymooning at Clear Lake, MB the couple settled on the Wilson family farm to begin a wonderful marriage that lasted 69 years. They both lent their time and talents to community efforts. Mary served as secretary treasurer of the Creekside Rural Telephone Company. She was a long-time member of the Creekside Homemakers Club. Jack served as a board member for the Yorkton Co-op and Theodore United Church. They were both active members of the Theodore United Church where Mary also taught Sunday school classes for a time. Music helped add fullness to their lives. Mary played guitar in her early years and Jack played a number of instruments including guitar, violin, piano and organ - all learned by ear. They both enjoyed old time dancing including square dancing and later took up Scottish Country Dancing and took part in many Robbie Burns Day celebrations. One of the highlights of their travels was a trip to Scotland where they re-connected with many relatives. They also made two trips to the beautiful islands of Hawaii and took cruises to the Caribbean and Mexico, travelled to both coasts of Canada and ventured north to Alaska and south to Branson, Missouri. Mary enjoyed sewing, knitting, crocheting and liquid embroidery. She loved growing flowers both indoors and out and spent time feeding and watching various songbirds. During his lifetime, Jack produced many pieces of art, water coloured paintings that have been and will continue to be enjoyed by family and friends. While they had many interests, family was always at the centre of their lives. After spending many years on the farm, Mary and Jack moved to Yorkton in 2000 where they lived on their own until 2013 when failing health necessitated assisted living care. That marked the first time they were ever apart. Mary passed away peacefully on March 16, 2016 at the Yorkton and District Nursing Home. She was predeceased by her parents William and Jessie Hepburn, sisters Jessie (husband Stanley Hancock) and Margaret (husband Lloyd Sherwin) and brothers Bert (wife Margaret) and William (wife Doris). Jack passed away two weeks after Mary on March 30, 2016 also at the Yorkton and District Nursing Home. He was predeceased by his parents John and Mary Wilson and his sister Winnifred (husband Dan Foster). Mary and Jack are survived by their children, David (Bev), Bruce (Lois), Sandra (Gerald Konkel), Craig (Pam) and Sherry (John Gillies) along with 12 grandchildren; Leonard Foster (Mandie), Sharlene (Scott Fitzsimmons), Carla, Michelle (Scott Greff), Jody (Chris Warner), Chad Konkel (Allison), Gavin Konkel (Chantel), Amy Konkel, Andrew Wilson (Melissa), Derek Wilson, Graham Gillies and Grant Gillies (Megan) along with 14 great-grandchildren. A Memorial Service to Celebrate the Lives of Jack and Mary Wilson was held on Saturday, April 2, 2016 from St. Andrew’s United Church in Yorkton, SK with Reverend Jen Dresser officiating. The organist, Shani Apland, led the congregation in the singing of the hymns, “Make a Joyful Noise” (as the processional), “In The Garden” and “How Great Thou Art”. The Piper, Ferne Katzberg, led the recessional. Jack and Mary were laid to rest in the Yorkton Memorial Gardens, Garden of St. Mark with their children, Sandra, Sherry, David, Bruce and Craig serving as their urn bearers. Friends so wishing may forward their condolences to the family by visiting www.christiesfuneralhome.com. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Christie’s Funeral Home & Crematorium, Yorkton, Saskatchewan.

WOOD - Dorothy Wood (Read) passed away peacefully at the Foam Lake Jubilee Care Home on March 6, 2016. Dorothy was born August 25, 1921 in Regina to Charles and Polly Read. Having a father who was in the RCMP meant they moved around to plac- es including Regina, Maple Creek and Prince Albert until her parents moved the family back to England before World War II. The family lived in Redditch, near Broms- grove where Dorothy worked in a munitions factory. After the war the family moved back to Canada and settled in Prince Albert. As a single woman, she spent many hours with her nieces Diana and Brenda and had lots of stories to tell. Doro- thy worked for the Prince Albert Fair Board. It was through the fair board that she met a farmer from Yorkton, Harvey Wood. They were married in Prince Albert in 1954 and moved back to the farm. There they raised two sons, Doug- las and Grant. Dorothy immersed

herself in the role of farm wife. For a city girl, she adjusted extremely well to this life. She worked beside Harvey and was his best friend and part- ner. Both Harvey and Dorothy were involved in the Yorkton Fair Board. Dorothy loved to sing and was a long-time member of the Sweet Ade- line’s. Harvey and Dorothy loved to host family gatherings at the farm and she adored her in-laws and out-laws. One of her greatest joys was big family gatherings. She loved being surrounded by her nieces and neph- ews and visiting with her extended family. Dorothy kept a calendar with information about all her family - their birthdays, anniversaries and deaths. She was very careful to transfer the information to a new calendar every year. There was always food and drink on the table for company, whether friends or family. Harvey passed away suddenly in 1978 leaving a huge void in her heart and life. Dorothy loved the farm and was deter- mined to stay there. She spent many hours on the deck making figures of the clouds, watching the deer walk through the yard and the geese fly overhead. She was a member of Holy Trinity Anglican Church and relied on her faith during difficult times. She regularly walked with and talked to God and thanked Him for the many blessings she was given. Dorothy es- pecially loved watching her four grandchildren grow up and cherished the time she spent with them. Dorothy is predeceased by her husband, Har- vey. She leaves to mourn her passing and celebrate her life: Douglas (Dale) and grandchildren Devon and Glenn; Grant (Karen) and grandchil- dren Scott (Heather) and Eric, plus many cherished nieces and nephews and their families. Friends are invited to join the family for a celebra- tion of Dorothy’s life on Saturday, April 9 at 2:00 pm at Holy Trinity Anglican Church in Yorkton. In lieu of flowers a donation can be made to the benevolent institution of your choice in Dorothy’s name.

PLAN NUMBER 5-3-684

HANDSOME NON BASEMENT HOME

This attractive home features two bedrooms plus a den that could be used as a third bedroom, as well as a bonus room over the garage that would make an ideal stu-dio, play area or enter-tainment centre.

The front door is shel-tered and opens into a foyer with a coat closet to the left. The den, to the right, overlooks the covered porch. Directly ahead are the open-plan kitchen, dining area and

spacious great room. The great room opens

on to a covered patio that looks out to the back gar-den. A coffered ceiling adds elegance, and the gas fireplace will be a magnet for family activi-ties in cooler weather.

The dining area is separated from the kitch-en and great room by a three-seat eating bar and work island with a dou-ble sink. A doorway leads to the covered patio, and both dining area and kitchen will enjoy plenty of natural light through a large window.

The kitchen is

designed for efficiency, with a corner pantry and generous counter space flanking the stove.

The master bedroom, at the back of the home for privacy, includes an ensuite with a soaker tub for a touch of lux-ury. Double basins and a glassed-in shower stall complete the layout. The walk-in closet will pro-vide plenty of room for clothing and accessories.

The second bedroom looks out to the side gar-den and shares a three-piece bathroom located across the corridor, next to the linen closet.

The laundry room, with its own sink, is sep-arated from the second bedroom by a stairway to the bonus room over the triple garage. This room can double as a mud room, with a bench and cubbies, as well as access to the garage.

The stairway to the bonus room can be relo-cated, to make the sec-ond bedroom larger.

Exterior finishes include horizontal wood siding, painted trim and shingles in the gables, as well as brick accents.

This home measures 54 feet wide and 64 feet, six inches deep for a total of 2,063 square feet. Ceilings on the main floor are nine feet.

Plans for design 5-3-684 are available for $835 (set of 5), $900(set of 8) and $952 for a super set of 10. B.C. residents add 7% Prov. Sales Tax. Also add $35.00 for Priority courier charges within B.C. or $65.00 outside of B.C. Please add 5% G.S.T. or 13% H.S.T. (where applicable) to both the plan price and postage charges.

Our NEW 48TH Edition of the Home Plan Catalogue containing over 400 plans is avail-able for $15.50 (includes taxes, postage and han-dling). Make all cheque and money orders pay-able to “JENISH HOUSE DESIGN LTD” and mail to:

Cellist crowdfunds CD for catsLongtime National

Symphony cellist David Teie announced in November that his crowdfunding project was hugely success-ful, freeing him to pro-duce an album of music meaningful to cats. (Cats, for example, relax in response to the earliest sound of their mother’s purring, which Teie clocked at 23 harp notes a second.) Teie’s work, according to an October Washington Post fea-ture, includes examining waveforms of real-time purrs and creating an organ sound to mimic the opening and closing of a cat’s vocal chords. His KickStarter pitch raised so much money that he might also try creating music for bored zoo ele-phants or stressed-out whales. In tests, cats responded well to Teie’s music, according to a 2015 journal article (but with less curiosity at the Washington cat cafe Crumbs & Whiskers).

Leading Economic Indicators

— Amazon.com has riled up Buddhist temples in Japan, according to a January Associated Press dis-

patch, by offering trav-eling monks rentable online to conduct funer-als and other rituals. The monk would go to a home, grave or funer-al home, at fees and upgrades ranging from the equivalent of $300 to about $8,500. (Many of Japan’s 75,000 Buddhist temples are struggling financially and destined to close. Complained a spokesman for the Japan Buddhist Association, what Amazon is facili-tating “is allowed in no other country in the world.”)

— In February, Gawker.com introduced the semi-serious Lube Crude Index as a poign-ant indicator of how far the price of oil has fallen. Comparing the world price of a standard 42-gallon barrel of crude (about $31) with that of a 55-gallon barrel of Passion Natural Water-Based Lubricant (retail-ing as, when packaged in smaller quantities, a sex-ual aid) shows that “sex lube” is more valuable than crude oil by a factor of 28 -- a barrel’s worth of the lube recently priced at $1,175 versus crude’s barrel-adjusted $41. As recently as June 2014, the

Lube Crude Index was near 1. (Gawker reported that only two actual bar-rels of Passion Natural could be found and that the price would likely rise further if one of them were sold.)

Unclear on the Concept(1) Angel Rivera,

49, was arrested in December in Orlando, Florida, on allegations that he punched a child in the face because the boy was not getting dressed for church fast enough. (The boy was wearing an ankle brace, which slowed him down.) (2) Ryan Dailey, 28, was arrested in Las Cruces, New Mexico, in February on several charges after, police said, he beat his mother by pounding her with a Bible. His explan-ation, police said, was that when he asked her who her soul belonged to, she repeatedly declined to answer.

Who Knew?The much-maligned

pigeon was recently

found by researchers to be as skilled as humans at distinguishing between slides of benign versus malignant human breast tissue. Writing in the journal PLOS ONE, specialists from the University of Iowa and University of California, Davis lauded the birds’ processing of color, con-trast, brightness and image compression, mar-veling that pigeons see more wavelengths of light than humans, even though their brains are one-thousandth the size. (Birds are already known to distinguish “hostile” humans in celebrated dive-pecking incidents.)

Police Report— A near-certain rob-

bery of the PNC Bank in Zebulon, North Carolina, on Jan. 28 was prevented, with employees treated to an almost-slapstick scene in which the bank manager kept the suspect outside by winning a tug-

of-war for control of the front door. The manager had grabbed the door after noticing an armed, masked man approach-ing from the parking lot just after the bank opened. (The frustrated perp fled empty-handed, but was at large.)

— Awkward Moments Ahead in Lockup: (1) Joel Sloan, 51, was booked into jail for DUI by a sheriff’s deputy in Birmingham, Alabama, in February. Sloan was dressed head-to-toe as a clown. (No explana-tion was offered.) (2) Vaughn Tucker, 23, was booked into jail in Tulsa, Oklahoma, in February on drug charges. He was wearing a T-shirt with large lettering on the front: “I Would Cuddle You So Hard.”

— Didn’t Think It Through: The robbers of the electronics store Compucell in Springfield, Massachusetts, in December came up empty, but are still at large. A man with a gun jumped the counter and demanded that the employee give him money from the locked cash register. The gun-

man moved to the back door to let in his accom-plice, but that merely allowed the employee and two customers to run out the front door, and the accomplice fled, too, sensing that, with no one to unlock the register, the “robbery” was going nowhere.

PerspectiveAmerican hunters are

so trophy-kill-obsessed that, in the decade end-ing in 2014 (according to Humane Society fig-ures), they averaged nine imported carcasses a day among the “Big Five” African species (lions, elephants, leop-ards, rhinos and African buffalo) — most of which require special U.S. and foreign permits, with “conservation” condi-tions. Some countries endanger their own dwindling herds just to sell the lucrative permits, and South Africa even offers 150 captive lions a year to make trophy kills easier. (Total hunt-ing imports of all animal trophies averaged 345 a day, mostly from Canada and Mexico.)
