El Presidente called re meeting to order at 7:00 AM. Lon Salgren led us in the Pledge of Allegiance. Grace Chan led the patriotic song; “America The Beauti-ful”. David Malkin led the invocation , very relevant to what we do as Kiwanians. Club members in attend-ance were Dave Wallach, Victoria Davidson, Lon Salgren, Charlie Huff, Grace Chan, Izzeldin Osman, Anna Wu., David Malkin, Jim Stewart, and Kathy Young. Anna Wu introduced our guest Miraya Surya, David Malkin introduced our guest Greg Mayer, and El Presidente introduced Wil-son Mach as a guest for the last time. Anna Wu led us in the welcome song. We quickly moved to the most important agenda item, inducting Wilson Mach as our newest member. (photos of induction on next

page) Charlie Huff led the induction, and asked El Presidente to place Kiwanis pin on Wilson’s jacket col-lar. Next Wilson’s sponsor David Malkin was asked to present Wilson with his temporary name badge, and his service apron, followed by Anna Wu, Wilson’s men-tor, was asked to present Wilson with his member-ship plaque. Wilson was then welcomed to our club as each of our members and guests in attendance shook his hand. Wilson then spoke to us, and gave us some insight into his personal life and his family. Welcome Wilson, we value your membership and look for-ward to serving our commu-nities with you as an inte-gral part of our efforts. We acknowledged two birth-days, Xiao Wang (07/24), and Susan Mach (07/23), we also acknowledged Tina

and Keith Banes anniver-sary (07/26). Victoria Da-vidson lead us in the Happy Birthday & Happy Anniver-sary song. Thank yous were offered to Lon & Dave W for chaperoning the Goldstone KIWIN’S OTC/DCM, to Su-san, Grace, Lon and Ted & Nancy Strinz for helping with Adopt-A-Highway, to Victoria & Nicholas, Grace & Stephan, Dave W & Lon, for attending the LPI Steak Fry, and finally to David & Teri Malkin for representing our club at ICON in Japan. Victoria Davidson sold the “Split the Pot” tickets; a winning ticket was pulled our guest Miraya, declaring Victoria as the winner of $130.00 ($13.00) Kiwanis Dollars. We were all pleased that we finally had a winner other than Lon & Izzy, even though the ex-changed their tickets to spread the luck around

amongst them. Charlie Huff performed the pin & badge checks, and helped collect cans for Del Haven. Kathy Young circulated the dona-tion cans. We collected $7.00 for Relay for Life, $6.00 for Children’s Hospi-tal, and $6.00 for ELIMI-NATE. A total of $45.00 was contributed by generous members for Happy/Sad dollars. We did not have a Mr./Mrs. K so everyone was declared friendly. El Presi-dente rang the bell at 8:20 AM, at which time the meeting was adjourned as we sang “Hail to Kiwanis”. This was a fun and exciting meeting, and our thanks to all who attended and made it enjoyable. Submitted by: Kathy Young & Mahmood Bashir

FAMILY SUPPORT NETWORK

Mental Health Outreach This program provides services to children 0-5 years of age, identified with behavior concerns. The goal is to link these children and their family to Child and Youth Services for help. The Mental Health Outreach Worker pro-vides a minimum of two home visits, encourages the family to access services, assists them in accessing the ser-vices, and conducts follow-up calls to ensure the family has followed the necessary steps. The Mental Health Outreach Worker is there to help answer any questions the families may have regarding behavior. Parent-to-Parent Outreach Program Family Support Network's Parent-to-Parent Outreach Program provides emotional support, information, and resources to parents of a child born “at risk” for a developmental or cognitive delay or having a serious medical condition. Peer parents are available 24 hours a day to meet the needs of these families. In 2012, FSN's Parent-to-Parent Outreach Program served 645 children with special needs from 638 families. Emergency Needs Program This program allows FSN to provide items that a family cannot afford but are needed to keep their child safely at home. They provide items such as cribs, strollers, diapers, and specialized formulas to families who may have difficulty meeting their needs because of poverty-level income or no income. A nurse, case manager or social worker must refer families. A family can only access the fund one time. However, FSN can provide food boxes and clothing for children more than once. FSN accepts any donations to this program provided the items are in good condition. August 1st they will start their 100 cribs in 100 days program. TLC Camp Camp TLC is a unique camp held for the past 20 years for families who have a child under the age of 4 with a sig-nificant medical, cognitive, developmental or mental health disability. It offers a number of different services for families. 1. For parents, Camp TLC is an opportunity to attend workshops related to their child's disability and network with other parents and the speakers. Topics may include: speech, behavior, therapy and/or medical issues, fa-ther's support group and mother's support group. 2. For the little ones requiring specialized childcare, FSN will have a staff of doctors and nurses available during the presentations and workshops. 3. For all siblings, there will be supervised activities at designated times, such as arts and crafts, swimming, and much more. Camp is held over one weekend each year. The entire family is encouraged to attend and camp is designed to bring the family together to get away from the hassles of everyday life. Camp is a huge undertaking, requiring over 100 volunteers. They have space for between 35-40 families to attend each year. Application Assistance and Client Advocacy Programs FSN's insurance enrollment program serves hundreds of clients each year, signing families up for Medi-Cal and Healthy Families insurance. Qualified application assister helps both English and Spanish-speaking families. This

program not only includes insurance enrollment, but also education and outreach to the public in places such as WIC sites, schools, hospitals and Head Start programs. On-site application assistance is also available at these sites. A new component to this program is the Client Advocacy Program. FSN has on staff a full-time bilingual case manager who is responsible for follow up with all families enrolled with an insurance provider through the Appli-cation Assistance Program. The case manager will assist families in accessing their services, ensure that newly enrolled families are making their initial doctor and dental visit within 120 days and will handle all walk-in re-quests for assistance. Wraparound Parent Institute The Wraparound program provides individualized, comprehensive, community-based services to help children, who are placed at risk of placement in a group home, live in family settings. FSN recruits, trains and supports Wraparound's parent partners. In turn, parent partners provide emotional support and information to those families participating in Wraparound services through the Orange County Social Services Agency. Parent Mentor Services Parent Mentor Services can connect a parent who has been through the system, has reunified with their children and is eager to offer their assistance. They are called “Parent Mentors.” Information, Referral and Resource Program Through the Information, Referral and Resource Program, FSN receives literally hundreds of phone calls each year requesting information on a variety of disability topics, including child care referrals, school assistance, re-quests for parent-to-parent support and bereavement services. If you have questions about anything relating to your child's special needs, please give Family Support Network a call. If FSN cannot help, chances are they know someone who can!

By Crystal Espinosa This month's adopt a highway was the last one during our summer vacation. It is almost frightening to see how few volunteers we have signing up for service events all summer long, including adopt a highway. However this month, I had the pleasure to clean the streets with students from another division who took the time out of their summer schedules to volunteer. Although our groups were small, we made a big difference. The amount of trash we pick up never ceases to amaze me, and I say that in an appalling way. Our small group of four people picked up over 1,000 cigarette butts, most in this one small area. I was shocked and appalled as we were picking them up because there was such an overwhelming amount. Adopt-a-Highway has taught me the importance of cleaning up our community and that the simple work of a few people once a month can make a worthwhile difference. OTC and July DCM

OTC and July DCM By Andrea Hu-Goldstone Divisional Bulletin Editor On an very, early Saturday morning, Goldstone officers and members went to Glendora for an event called Officers Training Conference (OTC). Many new members showed up and two District Board members-Allen Pham and Nikita Lee-were guest speakers for the conference. Although there was not a workshop for me, I have learned many treasurer duties and gained more knowledge of what the treasurer position has to do. As a friend of the Glen A. Wilson Club Treasurer, I now have a deeper sense of what her position means to the club and to the division as well. The con-ference went smoothly and our Lieutenant Governor, Kelley Ray, bought us pizza! After OTC, we had to transition into our July DCM. Every club in the division had great events either planned or completed. Also, congratulations to Jodi Yip for receiving the Goldstone Gator of the Month! Finally, Mr. Lon Salgren talked to us about Key Leader and congratulated our two newly elected Key Leader Ambassadors: Dennis Takeshita and Jade Wong. Overall, I learned something through OTC and I am happy for those who achieved over and beyond.

Key Club Region 13 Picnic

By Lon Salgren Region 13 Key Club held a picnic at a park in San Dimas. Div 35E held their DCM prior to the picnic. There were plenty of opportunities to buy food to support PTP and ELIMINATE for individual Key Clubs and Divisions. I sam-pled a caramel apple, frozen drink (sorry I don't know what they are called) and a cookie in the shape of a brownie. Kiwanis chaperones were given first opportunity to enjoy the COSTCO pizza that Mahmood had helped to pick up. There was WAY too much pizza! Chaperones from our Kiwanis Club were Lon Salgren and Mahmood Bashir. We both did double duty, having come from the Stuff the Bus event that was occurring simultaneous to this event. Towards the end of the picnic Div 15, Div 35W & 35E, Div 10N & 10S took turns presenting their cheers in a spirit battle. It came down to Div 35E going head-to-head with Div 15. The voting was close, but Div 15 took home the spirit stick. After this there was another fundraiser with the Division LTG's offering to be pie'd. I contributed, but chose to

dump half a bottle on each of the Div 15 and Div 35W LTG's. I caught each by surprise, coming from behind. It

not only refreshed them, but helped to jump-start their cleanup process.
