Mahmooooo’s Message As we approach the final quarter of our present Kiwanis year, we can all feel proud of how we have served our communities, and our youth. We have accomplished much, but our work is not done. We still have a few important community service projects, such as, Jim Davis Beautifi-cation Day, the "I Love Ameri-ca", 4th of July Parade, and Relay for Life to name a few. We also have one of our major fundraisers, the "Fireworks Stand" just around the corner. Its going to take participa-tion from all of our members to make them a success once again. So far this year, a few of our members have carried the bulk of the weight, most of us have helped when we could, but some have not

been able to. We request and en-courage all of our members to give a helping hand, specially those who have not been able to so far. There are a few goals which we had set for ourselves, and we are still shy of completing them. We need to complete the Inter-Club Super Round Robin. Kathy Young has been consistently scheduling Inter-Clubs and a lot of our members still have not attended one. If you have not attended an Inter-Club yet, please make yourself available for the next one. This is a simple goal, and is easily achievable. Lets all concen-trate and get it accomplished. To give primacy to the human and spiritual rather than to the material values of life.

To encourage the daily living of the Golden Rule in all human relationships.

To promote the adoption and the application of higher social, business and professional standards.

To develop, by precept and example, a more intelligent, aggressive and serviceable citizenship.

To provide, through Kiwanis clubs, a practical means to form enduring friendships, to render altruistic service and to build better communities.

To cooperate in creating and maintaining that sound public opinion and high idealism which make possible the increase of righteousness, justice, patriotism, and goodwill.

Today’s meeting was our special meeting to recognize and acknowledge our schol-arship recipients, SLP and High School Seniors, so El Presidente quickly called the meeting to order at 7:00 AM. Char-lie Huff very patriotically led us in the Pledge of Allegiance. Grace Chan led the patriotic song; “America The Beauti-ful”. Victoria Davidson delivered an inspiration-al invocation reminding us all the importance of our support of our youth. Club members in attendance were Dave W, Kathy Young, Victo-ria Davidson, Lon Salgren, Jim Stewart,

David Malkin, Charlie Huff, Grace Chan, Craig Cerro, and Ben Su. Dave W introduced our guest Teresa Wilson (our Miss 4th of July) and dad Matt Wilson. David Malkin deferred his introductions to Dave W, who intro-duced Firuze Barimani (IP President Wilson Key Club), and mom May Barimani, Tiffany Chang (Los Altos KIWIN’S) and mom Julie Chang. Char-lie Huff introduced Ash-ley Lee (Wilson KI-WIN’S). Lon Salgren in-troduced Christina Gurdzhyan (Senior at Los Altos) and mom An-nette Gurdzhyan. Late arrival Sabrina Lim

(Wilson Key Club, and our Miss of July Runner-Up) was introduced by Dave W. Victoria Da-vidson introduced Jor-dan Gonzalez (OGMS Builder’s) and mom Bet-zabe Gonzalez. Craig Cerro introduced our guest speaker Gary Lar-son and his daughter Christina. Victoria Da-vidson led us in our “Welcome Song”, as we made all our guests feel at home. We acknowl-edged a couple of birth-days, Teri Malkin (06/12) & Charles Karsch (06/13). We also acknowledged Gino Kwok & Sherry Lee’s anniversary (06/16). Victoria Davidson led us

in the “Happy Birthday/Happy Anniversary” song. Lon Salgren sold the “Split the Pot” tick-ets, our guest and Miss 4th of July Teresa Wil-son Angela pulled the winning ticket declaring Lon as the winner of $90.00 Kiwanis Dollars ($9.00). Yes again, since Izzey was not in attend-ance. Dave W. per-formed the pin & badge checks, and helped col-lect cans for Del Haven. David Malkin circulated the donation cans. We collected $5.00 for Re-lay for Life, $4.00 for Children’s Hospital, and $4.00 for ELIMINATE. A total of $29.00 was con-tributed by generous

Lon Salgren was our Mr. K for the morning and reported everyone friendly except Kathy Young & Ben Su. Let’s all remember to be friendly, shake hands, and say Good Morning! Happy & Sad Dollars

Dave W – Sad because yesterday the hard drive on his Business Computer went out. Cost of $1500 to retrieve information. He bought a new computer. Also sad because last week during the Election, his car was parked out front of his house. A voter pulled up behind his car and in the mean time, Kris-ty came home and pulled up behind the voter. When the voter was done, she went to leave and backed up into Kristy’s new car. Happy to have all the wonderful youth and their parents here. Craig C – Happy because the Kiwanis One Project started by our club last year 2013 is finally finished. The stairs have been replaced. Lon – Happy because our club was able to help La Puente Industry Club with Relay For Life in La Puente this past weekend. Sad because while trying to get the trailer into place for the Pancake Break-fast, it got hung up on the first speed bump. It was the axel and he is working on repairing it. Happy because he was invitied to Cal Poly Circle K’s final meeting of the year. Sad because he had to have blood test and it took 4 pokes into his hand to find a blood vessel. Grace – Happy because she went to the Library yes-terday and bought a book about the US Presidents. She needs a magnifying glass to see the print. Mahmood – Happy for all the Youth and Parents in attendance. Happy that the Conference in Las Vegas he attended went well. KI is serious about imple-menting “The Formula”, which is specifically de-signed to strengthen existing clubs and opening new clubs.

Jim – Happy because Jean and him were able to go to San Francisco last week and visit with their Son, Daughter-In-Law and Grandson. He is now 6 months old. They also went to Santa Rosa looking at houses. David M – Happy for the Sponsored Youth and their parents that are in attendance this morning. Happy for Teri’s Birthday, Happy Father’s Day to all the Dad’s in attendance this morning. Thanks to his son for taking him to the King’s Game. Sad that some members made unfavorable comments about Ro-tarians. Ben – Happy for the Scholarship Recipients and Happy Father’s Day to all the Dad’s in attendance this morning.

A century of service Let's mark this historic date and step up for the next 100 years. We're setting the stage for our future suc-cesses.

On Thursday June 12, club members Dave W, Lon Salgren, Susan Jaclin, Victoria Davidson, Anna Wu, and Kyra along with President Mahmood Bashir attended the DCM. It was a well attended DCM and was hosted by the Monrovia Kiwanis Club. It was awesome to hear the club reports and learn about all the service clubs in our division are providing in our communities, and are planning to provide in the coming months. Our club re-ported 940 hours of service for the month of May. An exceptionally awesome job guys, lets keep it up. We had all of our SLP LTG,S in attendance, and their reports were just as amazing. The passion these kids have for ser-vice, and raising funds for their various preferred charities is impressive. Foothill Circle-K LTG Alfredo Munoz was in attendance as well, and informed us of his plans to attend the Circle-K ICON in Memphis this coming week. He made a plea for a little assistance as he was shy of $300.00, reaching his fundraising goal to cover the cost of attending. It took a total of a minute or less for the Monrovia Club to put his mind at ease, as they offered to cov-er it for him. Nice Job Monrovia ! Al our members are encouraged to attend our next DCM. Its a great way to meet our fellow Kiwanians, and stay informed about the going on's of clubs in our division. See you there next month.

Glendora Kiwaniannes Inter-Club

By Mahmood Bashir On Wednesday June 4, 2014 we joined Glendora Kiwaniannes for an Inter-Club. Club mem-bers in attendance were President Mahmood Bashir, Kathy Young, and Susan Jacklin. It was a fun and an informative meeting. They had two programs that evening, our divisional ELIMI-NATE Chair, Joel Beezy, and a local salon owner who gave tips for quick and easy hair styles for women. She also gave tips on how to give body and volume to thinning hair. This caught Jo-el Beezy's attention, and we have not seen him so excited in a while. Joel gave a very passion-ate and informative talk on ELIMINATE, and offered tickets to "Concerts Under the Stars". This is being offered to all clubs in our division as a way to support ELIMINATE and raise funds for the cause. The Kiwaniannes were very receptive, and essentially bought out one entire night by purchasing tickets for almost forty people. Way to go Kiwaniannes! We hope all of our members who have not yet attended an Inter-Club this year will join us for our next scheduled Inter-Clubs. Kathy Young works hard, to schedule these, and we must make ourselves available not only to show our support of her efforts, but to reach our goal of reaching a Super Round Robin this year. We can only reach this goal if all of our members attend at least one Inter-Club this year. Lets do this guys, check your calendars and join us for the next one.

CLE Make-up Training Registration (coming soon) Kiwanis members, guests and interested parties -- sign up now to attend this amazing convention with option-al workshops, meetings and events. Don't miss out on the opportunity to learn more in less time, with our amazing Kiwanis TraK system of learning. Pre-events include a Golf Tournament or a Trolley Tour of San Diego on Thursday morning (space limited). During that evening the First General Session begins with a blockbuster kick-off event in the main ballroom. Plan to start your Friday by attending the Interfaith Breakfast or The Eliminate Project Walk. Following the morning's Second General Session, you and your fellow members simply choose a TraK program. Speakers rotate throughout each two hour action-packed session. Share in the excitement of the Awards Luncheon that follows and then choose more informative and exciting afternoon TraK sessions. Take a short red trolley ride to the evening's District Dinner in historic Old Town San Diego. Wake-up to the always fabulous Foundation Honors Breakfast or Yoga For Eliminate Class and then join in for some more education and workshops. Get credit for the Interclub Luncheon and be inspired by our Super He-roes of Service. Stroll the exhibit booths and stop by our new coffee lounge throughout the weekend to see and bid on youth artwork to benefit the Eliminate Project or speak with a knowledgeable leader who will serve you up the answer to your most pressing questions. Then -- pick your next TraK session before you join us for the closing session and the Installation Dinner. Stay another night and join us for the Rose Float Breakfast held prior to the District Board Meeting which maybe attended by any Kiwanian. Don't miss out and plan to be there. It will be a District Convention unlike any other you've ever experienced.
