Mahmooooo’s Message

Its awesome when our members actively participate in our pro-jects. It is fun when there are a lot of us and in addition it make the project run much smoothly and efficiently. We had great repre-sentation at both our monthly Adopt-A-Highway, and the Pan-cake Breakfast we hosted for Sen-ior Pathfinders in appreciation of their continued support of our club. Our hats off, and heartfelt thanks to all who helped out with these two events. We are often reminded by Lon Salgren, our AAH Chair, that this is OUR club pro-ject and the SLP come out to help us. This past Saturday it looked like and felt like our project as we

had more members participate than our SLP. The Pancake Break-fast for the Seniors went without a hitch, and was efficient. Why you may ask , well because we had more than enough helping hands. It feels good, and we are sure all who attended these events agree. Lets build on this past weekend, lets always remember we are a service club, and for us to provide the caliber of service we want to provide we need all of our mem-bers to actively and willingly pro-vide a helping hand. When we induct our members we always try to mention that we can invite you to be Kiwanians but we can not make you Kiwanians. Only you can do that. We have complete faith in each and every one of you and know that deep down you have a desire to serve, you want to make a difference, you want to give back. You and your help is needed

if we are to "improve the world, one child and one community at a time". We realize many of you have busy schedules, but we are sure you can make some time to attend at least a few of club our meetings. We provide an oppor-tunity for you to join us every week of the month, and yet don't see many of you months in a row. We miss you, come join us for our next meeting, and share with us what you have been up to. Come and meet and get to know our newest members and wel-come them to our club. We have a little over a month left before our current year ends, and we move into a new year of service. We invite to to finish the year strong by attending as many of our meetings in September. El Presidente called our meeting, to order at 6:00 PM. Once again, Charlie Huff in his usual manner instructed all in attendance to place their right hand over their left ventricle, and led us in the Pledge of Alle-giance. Feeling patriotic, Grace Chan volunteered and led the patriotic song; her choice “America the Beautiful”. Our Social & Host committee Chair Susan Jacklin delivered the invoca-tion. Club members in attendance were Dave Wal-lach, Charlie Huff, Grace Chan, Izzeldin Osman, Tina Banes, Robert Barba, Kathy Young, Susan Jacklin, Victo-ria Davidson, and Wilson Mach. It was nice to see all of our members, Susan, Tina, & Robert who usually can’t make it to our morn-ing meetings. Thank You All! Surprisingly we did not have any guests in attend-ance, hence denying us the

opportunity to sing the “Welcome Song”. We acknowledged Charlie Huff’s upcoming birthday (08/24). Dave Wallach led us in the singing of the “Happy Birthday: song. When Charlie was asked how young he would be on his birthday, the engineer he is, his response, he turned (8) squared four years ago. Now that’s young! We thanked David & Teri Malkin, Anna Wu, and Jacob (a student from Chi-na) for representing the Club at RUSDFRC at the Fresh Start Event. 250 stu-dents were served at the event, and our club provid-ed shoes for those in need through our “Shoes That Fit” program. Our special thanks to David Malkin for working tirelessly as chair, and making sure we make a positive impact on the lives of so many youth, by providing something as

basic as a pair of shoes. We also thanked Anna Wu, Lon Salgren, Dave Wallach, and Nancy Bashir for repre-senting our club at the 94th Annual CNH District Con-vention in San Diego. Dave Wallach, Anna Wu, and El Presidente also represented our club as Delegates and actively participated in the voting process at the “House of Delegates”. Lon Salgren was a “Delegate at Large” in his capacity as the Region-13 Trustee. Thank you all for your service! David Wallach sold the “Split the Pot” tickets; a winning ticket was pulled declaring a very excited and happy Tina Banes as the winner of $110.00 ($11.00) Kiwanis Dollars. This was the first time Tina has hit the jackpot!!! Yay! Kathy Young pulled double duty as she performed the pin & badge checks, and helped collect cans for Del Haven,

and circulated our donation. We collected $3.00 for Chil-dren’s Hospital, $3.00 for Relay for Life, and $7.00 for ELIMINATE. A total of $31.00 was contributed by generous members for Hap-py/Sad dollars. Our newest member Wilson Mach was Mr. K. and reported every-one to be extremely friendly and extraordinarily welcom-ing. Wilson in the true spirit of having fun came to the meeting donning dark sun-glasses and doing his best to remain inconspicuous. He reminded us of the “T-Men” of yore. Thank You Wilson for bringing light and enjoy-able moments to our meeting. El Preidente rang the bell at 6:45 PM, at which time the meeting was adjourned as we sang “Hail to Kiwanis”. Thank you all for attending our meeting and making it fun. Submitted by: Kathy Young & Mahmood Bashir

Happy & Sad Dollars

Wilson – Happy that his children are back in school. Sad because the house now is quite during the day. He sometimes comes home for lunch since his house is so close to the office and he got used to seeing the children there. Dave W – Happy because Billy started school Monday and Kristy finally got a full time position at Saddle Ridge School in Chino Hills, also received a raise in pay. Kathy – Happy that she was able to get Shauna back to school and that the car made it without any prob-lems. Got her moved into her Dorm room and all set up. Courtney left last Thursday for school so won’t see them until Thanksgiving vacation in November. Miss them already. Susan – Happy just because. Victoria – Happy because she was able to spend 9 days on Catalina Island with 400 scouts and parents. It

was a lot of fun. She is home for 4 days and leaves tomorrow (Thursday) for Holcomb Valley Scout Camp in the San Bernardino Mountains. Grace – Sad because on Monday her Computer was not working. Happy because she learned a trick and that was to turn off and hold the power button for a couple of seconds longer than she normally would and the Computer started. Mahmood – Happy that Charlie shaved his legs in an-ticipation of his upcoming birthday (just kidding). Hap-py we had good attendance at Cal-Nev-Ha Convention. Happy because Sara got her driving permit and she was able to drive to school on the first day of school, and because he is just a happy kind of guy. Izzey – Happy that his friend is going in for a colonos-copy tomorrow (Thursday). He requested to keep it out of the press. Oops, too late.

By: Mahmood Bashir Bright and early at 7:30 AM on Friday, August 22, Lon Salgren towing our food prep trailer pulled in the parking lot of Pathfinder Park, for the Pancake Breakfast our club hosted for Senior Pathfinders in appreciation of their continued support of our club, specially our "Shoes that Fit" program. Lon was joined by Charlie Huff, Grace Chan, Ray Jan, David & Teri Malkin, and President Mahmood Bashir. It was a truly a team effort, we all pitched in, mixing the pancake batter, thawing the sausage, breaking and whipping the eggs, pouring orange juice in cups, getting everything ready to be cooked and served. Thanks to great participation of our members, we were able to serve about fifty seniors in attendance. The pancakes turned out perfect golden brown, the eggs came out soft & moist, and the breakfast was really enjoyed by all, in a very relaxed & festive atmosphere. We thanked the seniors and presented a certificate of appreciation to them for their support of our efforts. Please make sure to thank each and everyone of them, next time you meet them, they really come through for us, be it the Ribfest, our Pancake Breakfast, providing pull tabs for our SLP, donating to Shoes that Fit. We tank them again. Yay! Sen-ior Pathfinders.
