Monrovia, Glendora, and West Covina (their Installation Dinner). Dave Wallach sold the “Split the Pot” tickets; a winning ticket was pulled by Anna declar-ing Wilson Mach as the winner of $100.00 ($10.00) Kiwanis Dol-lars. Dave Wallach in his usual helping way performed the pin & badge checks, and

helped collect cans for Del Haven. Izzey who was assigned to per-form this task was too busy with his duties as the treasurer. Kathy Young circulated our donation cans. We col-lected $3.00 for Chil-dren’s Hospital, $2.00 for Relay for Life, and $3.00 for ELIMINATE. A total of $28.00 was con-tributed by generous

members for Happy/Sad dollars. Wilson Mach was our Mr.K for the morning and re-ported all members to be extremely friendly, everyone greeted him and shook his hand. That’s the spirit guys, let’s keep it up! El Presi-dente rang the bell at 8:27 AM, at which time the meeting was ad-journed as we sang

“Hail to Kiwanis”. Thank you all for attending our meeting and making it fun. Submitted by: Kathy Young & Mahmood Bashir

Happy & Sad Dollars

Izzey – Happy because he was able to attend a pro-gram that CHP Officer Rodrigo presented. It was excel-lent. Officer Rodrigo said he would like to come back to speak to our Club again. David M – Happy that Anna obtained the donation for Eliminate. Happy because he has been appointed to the Rowland Personal Commission for another 3 years. Wilson – Happy for David’s appointment and Sad be-cause he forgot his food donation for Del Haven. Hap-py that Dave Wallach donated a dollar on his behalf. Lon – Sad because his reading glasses broke. On Mon-day things that happened 17 years ago came back to haunt him. His cat passed away from Kidney disease and he was digging a hole in the backyard to bury his cat and he found a jar that he had used to bury his rabbit in 1998. In the jar with the rabbit remains was a card he had buried with it. He enjoyed his cat tremen-dously as it had a long life. Happy because Crystal is here with us this morning. Sad because the SLP’s need to coordinate their events so we aren’t that busy on the weekends. To many events going on at the same time. Dave W – Happy because Crystal-President from Wil-son Key Club joined us this morning. Bob Castillo also joined us as well. That makes for god representation from our SLP and the Scouts. Sad because we have to multi-task at our age. Happy because along with Mahmood, he will be doing the Ice Bucket Challenge at the Car Wash on Saturday. Anna – Happy because her clients that were at the meeting last week will be leaving Thursday. She has been doing a lot of work this past week. She attended

a Rotary meeting and IMC Luncheon with John Hsu, David & Teri Malkin. Mahmood – Happy because Sara turned 17 years old. Busy day, noisy restaurant but had a great time. His brother was in town and was able to join the family for this celebration along with Mom, and older sister. Mahmood had to take him to the airport because he was flying to Chicago to see his daughter. When he looked at his ticket, it was a standalone ticket so he had to pay for his luggage. Very, very costly and then Mahmood had to send a package to him overnight and that was costly as well. Live and learn to verify airline tickets. Sad because Mom will be leaving on Friday to go back home. She has been here 3 or 4 months. Hap-py that Crystal is here. Lon – this is for David. UCLA is no longer tied with USC in Academic Scholarship. They have pulled ahead.

Story by David Malkin Roy Burns served in the United States Marine Corps from 1965-1968 during the Vietnam War before starting his career in law enforcement. He first joined the San Fernando Police Department in 1978 working in the Department’s Patrol and Narcotics divisions. He later transferred to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department in 1981 were he worked various assignments such as Patrol, Detective, Training, Custody and SWAT until he retired from the Sheriff’s Department in 2010. He was also a member of the California State Commission for Court Room Security, Racial Profiling and SWAT Tac-tics. Roy Burns has also been a recipient of the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department's Medal of Valor, Medal of Valor Gold, Medal for Outstanding Performance and the Medal for Exemplary Performance. Burns is currently the President of LA Global Security and Investigations that specializes in private security, private investigation and personal protection. He announced his support of Paul Tanaka and spoke about issues facing the Los Angeles County Sheriff Department (LACSD). He expressed concerns regarding the policies of some law enforcement agencies such as: one-man foot pursuits, negotiations in the legal system to avoid court hearings and reduced sentencing, and issues regarding legal actions centered around law suits focused on use of force, especially after pursuits. In the end, Mr. Burns hoped that a change in leadership would help remedy some of these concerns.

Story by Anna Wu On Tuesday, September 9th, Past Presi-dent David Malkin, Past First lady Teri Malkin, John Hsu, and Anna Wu, all members of our Hacienda Heights Kiwa-nis club, were present at the Industry Manufacturers Council Executive Lunch-eon at the Pacific Palms Resort. Anna Wu brought her visiting clients from China, Daniel Song and Eddie Yan of Golden Spark Labs, who was also our guests at our Kiwanis morning meeting. David M. and Anna W. did their best to invite prospective members to our morning meetings and tell them all about Kiwanis. During the social hour, they were surprised to find out that there were a lot of Key clubbers from Wilson High School also at the event doing research for a high school project. It’s always nice to see our K-Family in the community. The speaker for the luncheon was Barry Eisen, the Pro’s Pro motivational speaker, corporate trainer and coach. It was an entertaining afternoon.
