Mahmooooo’s Message As we wind down our current Ki-wanis year, and get prepared for our new year starting in October, remember that we still have op-portunities to serve. This com-ing Saturday, July 26th is our now annual Stuff-A-Bus event, to be held in the parking lot of Wal-Mart in City of Industry (Azusa & Gale) from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM. Most of us are familiar with this project, but many of our newer members may not be. We have a school bus parked in the lot, and we hand out flyer's to shoppers requesting them to purchase school supplies, and place them in the bus. At the end of the day we deliver the sup-

plies donated by community members, and our club to HLPUSD office. These supplies are them distributed to different schools in the district and given to students who most need them. It is a great way for our members to get in-volved, meet community mem-bers and together touch many young lives, making a differ-ence. Our main focus as Kiwani-ans is, "Serving the Children of the World". This project allows us to do just the same. We request that all of our members come out and offer a helping hand for as many hours as their schedules allow, but try to do so for at least a couple of hours each. Its going to be a 10 hour project, there is ample op-portunity for all of us to help and make it so that just a few of us don't have to stay there the entire time. Throughout the year we have served our community and

our youth, lets keep doing so till the end of the year, and lets do so with as many of our members involved as possible. Look forward to seeing all of you there on Satur-day.

Remember to serve, and

always serve with a smile.

To give primacy to the human and spiritual rather than to the material values of life.

To encourage the daily living of the Golden Rule in all human relationships.

To promote the adoption and the application of higher social, business and professional standards.

To develop, by precept and example, a more intelligent, aggressive and serviceable citizenship.

To provide, through Kiwanis clubs, a practical means to form enduring friendships, to render altruistic service and to build better communities.

To cooperate in creating and maintaining that sound public opinion and high idealism which make possible the increase of righteousness, justice, patriotism, and goodwill.

El Presidente called re meeting to order at 6:00 PM. Charlie Huff led us in the Pledge of Allegiance. Dave Wallach led the patri-otic song; “America The Beautiful”. Victoria Da-vidson led the invocation by reciting an inspirational poem. Attendance was light, as many of our members are away on vacation, or out of town for important Kiwa-nis business. Club members in attendance were Dave Wallach, Victoria Davidson, Lon Salgren, Charlie Huff, Grace Chan, Izzeldin Os-man, and Anna Wu. Lon

Salgren introduced our guests Vern Moyer, Phil & Blanca Hinijos from La Puente Industry who joined us for an Inter-Club, Lon also introduced Ivan (Victoria’s son) and Yasin (Izzey’s son). Charlie Huff very melodically led us in our “Welcome Song”. Thank yous were offered to Lon & Dave W for chaperoning the Key Club D35W DCM & So-cial, to Victoria, Grace, Dave W & Lon for attending the D35 CLE. Our special thanks to Lon for bringing ice, water, and soda to CLE. We also offered our thanks

to Wilson Mach, Dave W, David Malkin, Kathy, and Victoria for attending the D35 DCM. Lili Anne Labaco and Josephine Tijandra also attended our DCM; they were there to represent Golstone KIWIN’S LTG Kel-ley Ray who was unable to attend. Dave W very effi-ciently sold the “Split the Pot”; a winning ticket was pulled our guest Ivan, de-claring Vern Moyer, as the winner of $90.00 ($9.00) Kiwanis Dollars. Lon Salgren performed the pin & badge checks, and helped collect cans for Del Haven.

Izzeldin Osman circulated the donation cans. We col-lected $2.00 for Relay for Life, $2.00 for Children’s Hospital, and $2.00 for ELIMINATE. A total of $41.00 was contributed by generous members for Hap-py/Sad dollars. We did not have a Mr./Mrs. K so every-one was declared friendly. El Presidente rang the bell at 6:50 PM, at which time the meeting was adjourned as we sang “Hail to Kiwa-nis”. Submitted by: Mahmood Bashir

By Lon Salgren Thanks to a good turnout of our SLP (Service Leadership Program) kids from Key Club Div 35E we were able to compete our AAH this month. Div 35E LTG Daanyaal Kumar helped get the word out to his clubs about the com-munity service opportunity. In attendance were Zane Landin from Walnut HS Key Club, Kevin Huo and Raymond King from Rowland HS Key Club, Daanyaal Kumar from Bonita HS Key Club, Valerie Sato from Diamond bar HS Key Club, Jasmine Yang, Kenneth Lim and Austin Ferrarer from Glendora HS Key Club, Crystal Espinosa and Bai-ley Lu from Glen A Wilson HS Key Club. Our Kiwanis members in attendance included Susan Jacklin, Grace Chan, Lon Salgren and honorary members Nancy and Ted Strinz. My group of 3 Key Clubbers worked the furthest East portion of the route. I parked in front of the small shops on the western end of the parking lot of the former Albertsons. Traditionally there is a ton of cigarette butts in front of these shops. This time was no exception. We collected over 200 before we left to work the sidewalk area to Azusa, then headed back west. We returned and collected over 250 more butts in this area bringing our total to 1,217 cigarette butts just for my group. Combined with the numbers turned in from the other two groups we collected roughly 1,875 cigarette butts. Thanks to everyone that came out to enjoy a little cooler weather and collect a lot of trash from our streets!
