The Rotary Club of Uitenhage South isappealing to the more fortunate in thecommunity to make Christmas time a
little bit brighter for 250 less fortunatechildren.
As from last Friday, between the hours of18:00 and 19:30 on weekdays and between10:30 and 13:30 on Saturdays and Sundays theClub will be manning a Tree of Joy table atthe entrance of Levyvale SuperSpar.“The idea is for the public to come forward
and purchase a pre-packaged gift which theRotary Club will deliver to one of seven non-profit welfare organisations in the communi-ty,” said Rotarian Alan Reynolds, ProjectConvener of the Tree of Joy in Uitenhage.“Thenamesof 250 childrenhavebeengiven
by the respective charities to the Rotary Clubof Uitenhage South who will allocate a gift tothe name on the card and deliver the gift tothe lucky child by early December.”Each gift costs only R60.“By buying a gift you will indeed make
somechildveryhappyduring this festive sea-son.“Please look out for the Rotarians in the

Children living on the street are not thereby choice. It is a result of one of society’s
growing illnesses, being neglected and reject-ed by irresponsible parents.
Thembisa Vusani established God’s Haven,a non-profit organisation which is registeredwith the department of SocialDevelopment inthe Eastern Cape, with the aim to take careof homeless children.“One day, when I was walking down Cale-
don Street it struck me how hopeless theseyoung children must feel without a mother,a home, food and no love,” said ThembisaVusani.She then decided to establish God’s Haven
and has been supported by several institu-tions like SASA, Social Development, the lo-cal police service, Department of Education,Home Affairs and VWSA Community Trust.“Homeless children are a growing problem
in the country and can not be ignored. Thesechildren grow up and become adults withoutidentity as they have no relatives, no referen-ces and no money.“Consequently they can not afford to have
identity books. And we all know there is nofuture without an identity. Therefore we as
the community need to take responsibilityand assist wherever we can to make life a biteasier for homeless children.”Vusani is in the process once again to orga-
nise a Christmas lunch for the homelessstreet children where each of them can enjoya healthy home-cookedmeal at theUitenhageTown Hall.“We can not ignore them. They need to be
educated, they need to be trained, to have aplace of shelter and they need food. Thereforethe community as a whole and all the rele-vant institutions should all be on board to as-sist with the growing number of street chil-dren,” said Vusani.The Christmas Lunch will be held on De-
cember 21st at the Uitenhage Town Hall. Allinterested in supporting Vusani and God’sHaven are requested to contact her on 071 7658568.“Contributions by means of food, clothing
or presents will be highly appreciated. It willcontribute to an enjoyable moment for thosechildren in need. Actually any kind of dona-tion will be a blessing. And blessed is thehand that gives,” said Vusani.

The final round of the Algoa Rally Club50k challenge will be held on the 20-21 of
November and will be known as the Heine-sport Aloe Rally. This event will be a chal-lenge of endurance for drivers and naviga-tors with night and day stages.
The rally starts tomorrow evening at 20:00with a combination of tar and gravel stagesat the Aldo Scribante race track and finishesat Jachtvlakte near Uitenahge on Saturdayafternoon after lunch with the 50k prize giv-ing at Rangers Outdoor Game Reserve.
The 50k Championship consists of sevenrounds and competitors are allowed to dropone low score event with six to count.
The championship contenders and prizewinnerswillmost likely come out of the firstfive on the leader boardwith Johan and Jua-ne Viljoen Volkswagen Golf 2lt (97 points),followed by Jan Vosloo Toyota Yaris (88) fol-lowed closely by Ashley Bezuidenout andNeels Vosloo trailing by a few points.
Competitors will be faced with many chal-lenges which include night stages usingspotlights.
What can change the sequence of champi-onship contenders is a puncture, mechani-cal breakdown or accidents which couldleave competitors fumbling in the dark withflash lights. No outside assistance is permit-ted but competitors may assist each other.Assistance is available during service inter-vals by mechanics and pit crews only.
Navigators are faced with challenges ofreading pace notes in the dark using lampsto guide the driver at speed. A wrong callcould end it all.
The competitors after seven rounds arecompeting for first prize: a 2015 VolkswagenPolo rolling chassis rally car, Custom Porta-ble Shade Gazebo supplied by Cape FabricEngineering, racing gear and equipmentfrom ATS Motor Sport. Second prize isR15 000 and third R7 500, with runner up con-testants receiving cash for points scored
from Heinesport. Inkwenkwezi Game Re-serve in East London will sponsor a weekendat the game farm for twomembers to benomi-nated for achievements during the year.
