In this melodrama, Bad Boys Koos andFrikkie together with a host of “no namebrand actors” will definitely provide sub-stance to South Africa’s 12th language -laughing!According to DenisMurphy from the
Uitenhage Lions Club, “We all laugh inthe same language, so please put awayyour laptops, iPods, television remotes andLOL to the show that is based on typical localhumour.”There will be four shows only, commencing on

Adventure Power has erected a 300kWwind turbine in the Venture Automotive
Products 4’s automotive manufacturing facil-ity in Uitenhage.
With the loomingcarbon tax soon tobe im-posed in South Africa and its industry, Ven-ture is one of the firsts to take a step forwardutilising wind energy to lower its carbonfootprint and becomemore energy efficient.“The project entails that a wind turbine
be connected to the factory for ownuse. Thismeans thatmachine is only intended to pow-er the factory and is not to be part of the pub-lic electric infrastructure.“This type of power production is also
known as embedded generation,” saidClaire Olmstead, Legal Representative atVenture Otto South Africa.“This project entails that thewind turbine
be connected to our factory directly, aswindenergy has a variable energy supply (it is re-liant on the wind which is undetermined onany day). A base load of power is usuallyneeded to ensure that there is constant ener-gy supply.“This means that the wind turbine will
still drawpower from the localmunicipalitygrid butwhen thewind turbine is producingpower the factory is programmed to use thispower supply as an initial source.”In the event that the factory cannot con-
sume the power generated, a reversiblemeteris connected to the factory’s switchhouse, andif any power is fed back into the grid it willreduce its meter count for the monthly powerbill.“This great initiative has helped green our
company’s profile and ensure that it is less re-liant on the municipal grid.“Furthermore it can be seen as a significant
development for South African technologyand innovation as this project utilises a fullySouth African manufactured and designedwind turbine, the first of its kind for mediumto large scale turbines in the country,” saidOlmstead.

People planning to visit the VolkswagenGroup South Africa’s manufacturing fac-
tory in Uitenhage nowadays do it in style andcomfort.The Volkswagen FactoryTour is mobile, al-
lowing the visitors to rest their feet, sit backand enjoy the ridewhilst witnessing the intri-cate manufacturing process of the Polo andPolo Vivo.The FactoryTour vehicles were custom
built by two Volkswagen Motorsport employ-ees using recycled and unused car parts fromthe factory. The novelty and ingenuity oftheir approach in manufacturing these vehi-cles that consist of three cars resulted in acomfortable, practical and stylish vehicle.It took Johnny Allen and Cobus Barnard
from Volkswagen Motorsport over threemonths to complete the three cars.The vehicle was built using spare material
and parts from the Motorsport workshopand factory.“We used left-over paint from the rally
cars, spare nuts and bolts as well as trim off-cuts to deck out the cars.Webuilt the chassisout of old tyre racks, which we cut in re-quired lengths. The side panels and doorswere moulded from scrapped parts from thefactory,” said Cobus Barnard.The FactoryTour vehicle can comfortably
seat 21 people and will be pulled by an elec-tric tow motor.The FactoryTours take place duringweek-
days. There are two tours on Monday toThursday at 09:00 and 12:00. OnFriday, thereis only one tour at 09:00.

A thief who early on a Sundaymorning broke into a house in
Vanes Estate and faced a hiddensecurity camera while helping him-self to a lunch box, might now alsoface the jail bars.
“Luckily a motion detector nightvision camera was hidden in thehouse and it recorded video footageof the intruder. We gave it to thepolice and within days the perpetra-
tor was arrested,” said Terry Rang-er, resident of Vanes Estate, Uiten-hage.According to Duane Nel an em-
ployee at Rangers Spares, the videofootage showed how the tall stronglybuild man “tip-toed through thekitchen, lookedupanddown thepas-sage, came back, took a snack andthen disappeared.”“The seconds he unknowingly
faced the camera gave clear enoughevidence of his identification,” saidNel.
Apparently the police found thestolen property in his possessionand the man was arrested. Threeother properties were also brokeninto during the same weekend, butaccording toNel it is not clear if theyare connected to the man arrested.“We want to thank the Uitenhage
police for their quick and profes-sional response. Also for getting thestolen property back and the thiefbehind bars. This kind of reactionmakes us proud of our men in uni-form,” said Ranger.

A local upholstery business did not hesitate to assist in repairinga wheelchair so as to get the disabled person back on the moveas quick as possible.Elgar Strydom of Despatch was diagnosed with a neurological
condition that resulted in his leg being amputated early this year.His only means of getting around is a wheelchair which unfortu-nately fell into disrepair when the stitching came apart at theseams. To this effect the Uitenhage Lions Club approached BoetLandman Upholsters of Uitenhage to repair the damaged wheel-chair. On hearing of the problem Boet and Elmarie Landman didnot hesitate to repair the damaged wheelchair at no cost and intheir own time.“Without the support of local business, we as Lions would find

Caterpillar Play School and Day Care at 3 Al-berti Crescent in Uitenhage this year cele-brates its seventh year in the pre-school edu-cational industry.
Lameez Dollie is the owner, manager and al-so teacher at Caterpillar and has a passion forchildren and education. She is assisted by Deli-cia and Cynthiawho take care of about 40 chil-dren during weekdays.
Just like in a caterpillar’s life cycle where it
is all about growth, Lameez has the growthof her Caterpillar children at heart and oper-ates strictly according to an educational plan.As extramural activities they regularly takethe chilren on outings and also present MikiMaths.
Caterpillar is a registeredplay schoolwherethey take care of children aged from3monthsto 6 years. They also have after care for chil-dren up to 9 years of age where they super-vise homework and assist wherever needed.The teaching language is English. Althoughmost of the children areXhosa-speaking, theyadapt fairly easy in learning to speak English.
“This is my passion and what I love, teach-ing children,” said Lameez.“I want to thankGod for grantingme the op-
portunity to have established Caterpillar. A bigthank you also to my husband Nabier, parents,father-in-law and children for your love andsupport.”
Just like a caterpillar may not have the ener-gy to complete its metamorphosis withoutproper nutrition, Lameezmakes sure that eachchild daily enjoys two healthy meals.
Caterpillar Play School takes care of chil-dren during weekdays from 06:30 to 17:00.

Winston Wong, who started theDragon Inn during 1977 at 259Caledon Street, Uitenhage,specializes in Chinese food of
the highest standard and quality.In fact it is the only food shop in town
that specialises exclusively in Chinesedishes.
Thank you“My wife Marlene and I would like to
thank all our customers and sponsors fromUitenhage and the surrounding areas fortheir loyal support during the past 36 yearswe have been in business,” said Winston.He inherited his love for cooking from
his mother, who was an excellent cook.At the age of seven, Winston’s father
passed away and being the eldest of threechildren, he started cooking for the familywhilst his mother was working.Whenever he and hiswife,Marlene, visit
his mom who now lives in London, he stillspoils her by cooking her favourite food.“I make sure her freezer is well stocked-
up with her favourite dishes before we re-turn to South Africa.”
Love for food and musicApart from Winston’s passion for cook-
ing, both he and Marlene come from musi-cal families.Marlene’s late father was a pianist and
played the organ in church, while Marlenesang in the church choir.
Winston, a vocalist and guitarist duringhis teenage years formed his own band“The Jets” in which he played for fiveyears.“I later was offered the chance to play in
a top dance band called ‘Les Continentals’ofwhich Iwas part also for five years. I nev-er had a weekend off during that time.”This assisted Winston in starting his
own business, a fish and chips shop called“Little Pal Restaurant” in Bains Road,Uitenhage. Marlene ran the shop while heworked and still played in the band.Winston and Marlene are both passion-
ate regarding food and he later sold thebusiness and started Dragon Inn duringSeptember 1977.

Dragon Inn is the only food shop intown that specialises exclusivelyin Chinese dishes.
It was established by Winston and Mar-lene Wong during September 1977. Theyboth are passionate regarding food.
“A lot of people said that I would nevermake it, but after 36 years we are still inbusiness. As someone said, after 36 yearsin business you must be doing somethingright!”
Fresh mein every dayMarlene, always friendly and helpful,
sees to the customers and takes phone or-ders, while Winston who adopted a hands-on approach sees to the kitchen. He makeshis own mein (Chinese noodles) every day!
According toMarlene, many of their cus-tomers grew up with food from the DragonInn.
“Customers who have relocated to othertowns and cities, come back to Dragon Innwhenever they pass through Uitenhage,”said Marlene.
They are both devout Christians andthank the Lord every day for His blessings,protection and guidance and that the busi-ness is still thriving after all these years.
As they are both getting on in years,Win-ston says that he hopes that someone withthe same passion and commitment will oneday take over the business and carry on thegood name.
Winston quoted a saying which reads:
“All people who made a success in life haveone thing in common. They are all positive!”

Notice is given in terms of regulation 54(2) as published in the Government
Gazette No 543 Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) regulations of the
National Environmental Management Act (Act No 107 of 1998) for intent to
undertake an Environmental ImpactAssessment, as governed by GN 545.
Inyanda Energy Projects (Pty) Ltd (Inyanda Energy), a renewable energy
company, plans to develop a wind energy facility between the towns of
Patensie and Kirkwood, within the Sundays River Valley Municipality,
Eastern Cape Province, South Africa. The proposed project will entail the
construction and operation of approximately 35 wind turbines, with a
maximum generating output of up to 140 MW. The proposed development
will cover an area of 60 hectares.
