The above scenario is what the 45 billionlitres of lost municipal water amount to perannum - owing to leaks and burst pipes in theNelson Mandela Bay Metropole alone.This amounts to more than 123 million

litres of municipal water leaking on a dailybasis through the collapsing infrastructureof the Metro.“It is a massive loss to the people of the

Metro at the hands of an uncaring localgovernment. We are losing 42,3% of ourwater. This is a result of the Metro not hand-ling a crisis that has been a long time coming.It let water pipes and water infrastructure goto rack and ruin,” Athol Trollip, DAMayoralCandidate: NelsonMandela Bay, commentedon this shocking news.“The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality

52, said there currently are 613 reported casesof water leaks in Despatch with only oneplumber to attend to the problems.“There are two allocated plumbers to serve

the Uitenhage and Despatch areas, butowing to accumulated leave one of them is onforced leave. As we speak, the reservoir inDaleview is nearly empty as a result of afaulty valve. The plumber is occupied inKwaNobuhle. Thus residents will soon bewithout water,” said Greyling.He further said, “It all sound good for the

Mayor to cut the budget, but its damage con-trol andwill result in a further halt to servicedelivery. There currently are more than 50vacant posts for plumbers.”NMB previously cut the water repair and

maintenance budget by R123-million.Trollip commented that, “The clearest sign

of the failure ofNMBtodealwithwater lossesis its cutting of the budget, at a time whena budget increase is so desperately needed.“It is clear that this government is choos-

ing electioneering over its duty to serve thepeople of this Metro. Millions of litres ofwater are being lost on a daily basis with noplan to stop them. If nothing is done to rescueNMB’s collapsing water infrastructure, nomatter whatMinisterMokonyane says about‘re-looking at water allocation’, our taps willrun dry soon.“Instead of fixing the problem, and instead

of upgrading our crumbling water delivery,theMetro wants to deflect its liability and in-

stall Smart Meters. Yet, today, in the City ofTshwane my colleague Solly Msimanga islaying criminal charges against the TshwaneMayor andMunicipalManager for the SmartMeters program rolled out in Tshwane plagu-ed bymassive corruption and failures of gov-ernance. New owners of the day-care, mother anddaughter, Milinda Ferreira andMelissa Smith,were granted the great opportunity of takingover this existing school fromNicolene Koen,who was the owner of Sprokiesland for thepast 8 years.

With much enthusiasm and excitementMelissa and Melinda will take over Sprokies-land from January 2016.

“Children can spend each day interacting,learning and playing with a large emphasison acquiring the basic skills they need to goto school,” said Melinda.

Activities like games, singing, stories, count-ing and of course playing are all part of thecurriculum to teach them the vital key pointsneeded in the beginning phase of education.

Sprokiesland is a bilingual facility where aprescribed curriculum is followed. They pro-vide daily meals to the children and at snacktime there are biscuits, cool drink and/or tea.Whenever children need to follow a special di-et, they will see it being followed stricktly.

Melissa said teachers are vital, “Thereforewe all have done our Foundation Phase train-ing and are equipped with all the necessaryeducational material and toys required for

teaching. The day-care hours from Mondays toFridays are 06:30 - 17:30. It will be open duringschool holidays, but not on public holidays.(Sprokiesland is closed for 3 weeks during De-cember and opens on January 4th, 2016.)

Children between the ages of 3 months upto 5 years are accommodated. Parents have theoption to let their kids be involved in additional

activities offered. Thiswill take place in an allo-cated time to not interfere with the daily basiceducational programme.

The Eastern Cape Institute of Architects(ECIA) has recognised Volkswagen’s R30million multi-purpose complex in Uiten-hage, the VW PeoplePavilion, as one of theEastern Cape’s leading architectural build-ings.

Twenty submissions were received forwork conducted in the Eastern Cape, fromlocal and national architectural practices.Adendorff Architects and Interiors, based

in Port Elizabeth, received the award for out-standing work on the design and construc-tion of the new Volkswagen PeoplePavilionbuilding and sports field in Uitenhage.“We view the award as recognition of our

contribution to architectural discourse inthe Eastern Cape,” said Dr Gillian Adendorfffrom Adendorff Architects & Interiors.The PeoplePavilion, which was opened in

2013, is a multi-faceted building catering toa number of needs and requirements withinthe Volkswagen and Uitenhage community.

It consists of a gym which has a full timeBiokineticist, a Club House which hasviewsof thenetball courts aswell as the rug-by and cricket facilities.One of the outstanding features of the

PeoplePavilion is the multi-purpose hallwhich can be used for indoor sports suchas indoor cricket, karate, indoor soccer andvolleyball, as well as weddings, dinners andconferences.Thomas Schaefer, Managing Director,

Pirates Baseball Club pulled off a remarkable victoryover VW BC to end victorious at the Pirates BaseballAll day tournament the weekend. Standout performersfor Pirates were Jonathan Bakker, Hercules Koekemoer, Elrich Tolmie and Skuttie Bezuidenhout. Piratesroute to the final was 87 down to VW, then a mustwin 84 up against Park Tigers, and then they weretoo good for VW in the Final.

VW BC’s route to the Final was 87 up againstPirates, then 75 up against Red Sox and then wentdown to a spirited Pirates side, that were morehungry for the win.
