kerk thanked theDespatchRugbyClub which no longer hires outthe clubhouse for functions, butmade a special exception to do-nate the use of their facilities freeof charge, in that way showingsupport to MND sufferers.All proceeds raised at the steak
evening will be donated to theFriends of MND who provide thenecessary services to improve thequality of life for both patientsand family in the Uitenhage, Des-patch and Port Elizabeth areas.Mark Bradley, Chairman and
Treasurer of the Friends of MNDas well as Werner Landman, whois an MND sufferer, will both bein attendance.In addition Sr Gaynor Bishop, Vice-chairperson of the
Friends of MND, will give a talk explaining and answer-ing questions on MND.The steak evening will be held on Friday, May 29th at

The woodwork, finishingtouches and installation were done by members of the Uitenhage Lions Club.

Self driven communities tend to initiatespontaneously interaction to the benefitof its inhabitants.
This is the case with the residents of thequiet sea village of Blue Horizon Bay, wholast week officially opened their own librarycalled Blue Horizon Bay Book Worms.“Petrol has become so expensive and ev-erybody here is getting older. To get to thecity is not easy and I had the idea to start alibrary service for our community,” saidJenny Bell, a self confessed bookaholic.Born and bred in England, Jenny immi-grated to South Africa, lived in Johannes-burg and in later years the retiredBell couplerelocated to Blue Horizon Bay.“I am passionate about books and thislibrary for our community.”The library started with 100 books whichwere displayed on a table. Gradually morebooks were received and currently there are750.“We spoke to a couple of the husbands andsaid luister skattebols we need shelves. Andthey did their share. So much so that we can
now accommodate up to 1 000 books.”The library is situated at the local commu-nity hall and the official opening was an im-promptu event with free wine and snacks,and one goal at heart “to get the word out!”The library will be open once a month,every second Thursday from 18:00 onwards.“It is operated on the simplest system intheworld. I ama champion of simplicity. Youtake a book, write your name, the book’s ref-erence number, your contact number dateout and off you go. Free of charge, and for thelove of reading.”Jenny keeps an eye on the register bookand kindly reminds readers to return bookswhen they are overdue. On the shelves thereare books ranging from novels and biogra-phies to reference works.A group of six people are involved with thelibrary, but Jenny took it upon herself to la-bel and mark each of the books in her ownhandwriting.“Itswas a labour of love. It’swonderful andI simply just love it being involved in thisproject,” said Jenny.More than 250 permanent residents live inthe little seaside village with more than 400houses.

KwaNobuhle Build It was purchased by well-known businessman David Goldberg five-and-a-half years ago froman insolvent estate.Since then it has not only expanded its servi-ces year-on-year, but gained the loyalty of thecommunity and doubled its size with theopening of a plumbing section.
“Build ItKwaNobuhle opened the samedayas Cash Build, whichwas amere 100m acrossthe street at the KwaNobuhle Mall. I thoughtto myself, ‘do you really want to do this?’”said David Goldberg, who had to work hardas the predecessor of the business had a lotof damage done to Build It’s client base withoutstanding deliveries and outstandingmon-ey.“Well, we successfully traded and grew
year-on-year. I believe that the secret to oursuccess is service delivery and our involve-ment in the community. That is why it waspossible for us yesterday to have had the offi-cial opening of our extended plumbing sec-tion.”Build ItKwaNobuhle’s floor space has been
doubled from 800m² to 1600m² in an effort tosupply what their customers want.“We found that trading in KwaNobuhle one
must not be restrictive to what you have instock. This is a growing market with custom-ers loving new, modern and upmarket items.“They really do. It has been a big lesson to
me to be attentive to customers’ needs. In thebeginning we stocked cheap items, but nowas a result of customers’ demand, we arestocking the best of the best.”Goldberg and Michael Mubvanyika, the
manager of Build It KwaNobuhle, often visitsites, measuring work themselves and givingfirst hand advice to customers.Staffmembers regularly attend courses and
lecture other staff inmerchandising in adver-tising, to get all on the extra edge of businessskills.“Build It ismy passion. It offeredme the op-
portunity to get involved and interact withthe local community. This is where I want tobe.“One of my proudest moments was when a
customer told me, ‘I am really impressed.You’ve grown and you made it better for us
to shop here in KwaNobuhle’.”Community involvementSome of the things that Build It is involved
with in the community include various pro-jects from the local authority.These include a project where the local au-
thority requested Build It KwaNobuhle to as-sist a Magogo who lived in terrible condi-tions.“Her house has burnt down and she took
care of six grandchildren. We immediatelygot involved together with our suppliers andre-did the roof, walls, windows, electrics,plumbing and with the help of the local au-thority re-built her house. This was one of thebrilliant projects we were involved in.”Build It U/13 soccer leagueBuild It KwaNobuhle is very much in-
volved with U/13 soccer and what is uniqueto all otherBuild It branches, is that theyhavestarted their own league.Former Bafana Bafana player Pollen
“Trompie” Ntlatyana was a guest at a BuildIt soccer tournament and told Goldberg that“one-day tournaments need to be stopped astheyhaveno long-term influence on thedevel-
opment of the sport.”He requested to keep the kids involved in
the sport fromJanuaryup to Septemberwhenthe tournament is being held.Build It KwaNobuhle then started with its
ownuniqueBuild It U/13 soccer leaguewhichnow has about 26 teams competing everyweekend in the KwaNobuhle, Rosedale andUitenhage areas.The league culminates in a huge carnival
during September when the top six teamscome together and do a play-off at Jabavu Sta-dium.During 2013 Build It KwaNobuhle held a
senior soccer tournament with the top fourteams playing against one other and offeredcustomers a lucky drawwith the prizes beinga cow and a sheep.That day about 20 000 people attended the
tournament at the Jabavu Stadium.Social investmentsBuild It KwaNobuhle also sponsors and is
involved inkarate, cricket andboxing tourna-ments and is very much involved with theHIV/Aids haven at the Share Complex inKwaNobuhle as well as assisting orphanages.
New plumbing & openings sectionSince Cash Build closed in September 2014,
Build It KwaNobuhle has stepped up andfilled the gap. They purchased the adjacentold post office and did major building altera-tions in joining the two properties together.A huge re-launch and opening of the new
extended Build It KwaNobuhle was held yes-terday.The re-launch will run for a full month and
incorporates a competition where customerswill enjoy thebenefit of reducedprices oncer-tain items for the duration of the month.“We believe that we are leaders in opening
markets, namely glass and aluminium doorsand windows. Ready-made kitchen units areavailable that can be customized and fitted toresidential properties. Build It has its owncabinet maker who will see that the kitchenunit will be fitted perfectly.”A new venture is that Build It has now
started supplying electronic equipment liketelevision sets,microwaves, ovens and stovesand fridges. Build It operates with a state-of-the-art computer system to source newmate-rial and whatever the needs of its customers,Build It will try to the best of their abilitiesto find the goods. At the new plumbing andopenings section there are bathroomdisplayswith certain tile techniqueswhich are uniqueas well as a variety of doors and windows(wood & aluminium).Win at Build ItThis will culminate on the 20th June when
someone from Build It head-office will do alucky draw. Every customer buying itemsworth R500 and more during the period May20th - June 20th stands the chance of being awinner. The winner will receive a cow withthe second and third prizes being a sheepeach.In an extended service to the community,
Build It has seven delivery vehicles servicingits customers. It also has a representative onthe road calling on building sites giving infor-mation and advice. Power outages and load-shedding is a mess, but it has no effect onBuild It KwaNobuhle as they have installeda huge generator to the benefit of their cus-tomers.Build It KwaNobuhle is indeed a construct-
ive business, assisting in building its commu-nity through their involvement.

In a first of its kind, the PEClassic Bike Rac-ing will, during their Motorcycle Track Dayat Aldo Scribante, host a safety talk for highschool teenagers who ride theirmotorcyclesor scooters to school.
This exciting event will be hosted on Sun-day, May 24th and the participating classesinclude classic and historic motorcycles,breakfast runners and superbikes and theHonda NSF 100 training motorcycles for the8-14 year-olds who will do demonstrationrides at the circuit.“PE Classic Bike Racing has decided to do
this safety programme for the school com-muters, as there is currently such a highrate of motorcycle accidents happening ona daily basis,” said Lucille Elliott.The teenagerswill receive safety tips from
the older more experienced riders, and alsohave three, twenty minute outings on thecircuit, where the experienced riders willshow them the racing lines, and give thema taste ofwhat it is like to ride theirmotorcy-cles in a safe environment.The entry fee for the TrackDay is only R50
for the school commuter riders. They willneed to bring their own motorcycles to thecircuit, have an adult on hand to sign the in-demnity form on their behalf, and also pro-duce a valid driver’s licence.They will need to wear long jeans; sneak-
ers or boots; shirt with a jacket, gloves andhelmet, for safety reasons.The TrackDay cost for adult riders is R200
for the day.Registration will commence at 08:00.There will be an ambulance on duty until
the end of the programme.Specatators are welcome free of charge.There will be catering caravans, and a full
bar and braai service in the clubhouse, afterthe event, where all the bikers can get to-gether andwatch theUKRoundof theSuper-bike Championship.

The Clay Target Shooting Association ofSouth Africa’s national championships wereheld recently on the outskirts of Uitenhage atthe Oasis Outdoor Adventure & Clay TargetClub.
According to Marohessa du Preez, the clubwas very privileged in having the televisioncrew in attendance and a clip covering thesport and the event was broadcasted on DStvchannel 404 last Sunday evening.
Clay Target Shooting is a sport that can beenjoyed by all members of a family, fromyoung to old, both male and female.
“If a boy of 9 years, a girl of 13 years, a ladyof 40 and a gentleman of 75 years can do it,then so can you! Everyone with a love of theoutdoors will enjoy this sport,” said DuPreez.
The categories of participation in the na-tionals included the 5-Stand Discipline andthe English Sporting Discipline. All agegroups were catered for and each competitorhad to shoot at 100 targets during the compe-tition.
The local club is proud to have severalmembers who received their provincial aswell as national colours.
In the 5-Stand competition, club membersclaiming 1st positions include Clifford Bart-
man Senior (SA champion - High Gun), Ed-mar du Preez (SA champion - Juniors), Anjadu Preez (SA champion - Lady), Clifford Bart-man Senior & Edmar du Preez (SA champiosn- Team event).
In the English Sporting category, clubmembers winning gold include: Clifford Bart-man Senior (SA champion - High Gun), Cliff-ord Bartman Junior (SA champion - Junior),Clifford Barman Senior & Clifford BartmanJunior (SA champions - Team Event).
