Boulevard Grass Cutting Guidelines for Barrie Property Owners In an effort to help enhance the aesthetics of public spaces within the City of Barrie, the following guidelines for boulevard grass cutting are encouraged. The City of Barrie is requesting that all property owners who have a front and side boulevard adjacent to their property cut the grass on these boulevards at the same frequency as their own lawns. The City’s Parks Operations Department carries out grass cutting on all front and side boulevards adjacent to City Parks and Municipal properties, and all residential rear lot boulevards. The rear lot boulevards are categorized as the boulevards that are at the rear of a property and are typically separated by a fence or a wall. From time to time the City receives complaints about neglected and overgrown boulevard grass, and will contact the property owner to cut the grass once the grass has reached a height of 12”. If the property owner does not cut the boulevard then the City’s Roads and Parks Operations will perform the grass cutting. These guidelines have been in practice for several years and serve to enhance the appearance of boulevards and the overall aesthetics of City streets. If everyone does their part to keep boulevards maintained it will help to minimize City maintenance costs and allow residents and visitors alike to continue to enjoy the beautiful streetscape and public spaces of our City. For further information please contact the City’s Parks Operations Department at (705) 739-4255. If you would like additional information regarding the various payment options available, or if you have not received your tax bill please call (705) 739-4230 between the hours of 8:30 am and 4:30 pm, Monday to Friday. To ensure the safety and well-being of our swimming pool patrons, and in support of Lifesaving Society recommendations, the City of Barrie has adopted the following admission standards: ith the ground-breaking this past March and earth works and building services complete, construction on the new Painswick Branch of Barrie’s Public Library will commence any day now. In a year’s time, Barrie south end residents will have a public library to call their very own. The new 15,000 sq. ft. stand alone single story library will front onto Dean Avenue just west of the Big Bay Point and Yonge Street intersection. The facility will occupy two plus acres of the full four acre land parcel site and has been designed with the community’s needs in mind: an open concept with delineated spaces for adults, teens, children, computers, and quiet study areas and shelving to accommodate approximately 130,000 items including books and other format material. The new branch will also house a multi-purpose community room, able to accommodate large gatherings, meetings, and activities, designed as a separate space with secure interconnecting access allowing residents its use during the library’s after hours. “The community was fully engaged in the design process of this new facility and is very excited about the new Painswick Branch opening in the Fall 2011,” says Leisure, Transit & Facilities Department’s Dan Buttineau who indicates that public support was overwhelmingly positive. In 2009, ZAS Architects began the Library’s modern design that includes the latest technologies, trends, and building dynamics such as high efficiency HVAC systems, glazed window treatment, a louvered shutter system for natural light control, and fully accessible design standards. Now that the ground work is finished, Bertram Construction begins the balance of the construction aiming for completion on August 2011 with Occupancy and Doors Open slated for Fall 2011. Barrie’s downtown library, which spans 40,000 sq. ft. and houses over 1 million books and other materials lacks sufficient capacity to serve our growing population and its information needs. Although it possesses over 95,000 registered users, usage studies show that a much smaller percentage of south end residents are using the current facility. “All cities the size of Barrie have three or four locations with more than double the square footage per capita,” says Al Davies, Director of Library Services. The new Painswick Branch will therefore improve library access to south end residents while providing more space to house a much needed larger inventory. Plus, a regular courier system will operate continuously between the main library and the south end branch, ensuring library serviceability. The Total Project Cost for the Library’s new Painswick Branch is approximately $5.5M with funding from Development Charges, Capital Reserves, and a $1M Fund-raising campaign lead by the Barrie Public Library Board’s Fund- raising Committee. See www.barrie.ca for construction updates and more information on Barrie’s Painswick Library Branch. W

To ensure the safety and well-being of our swimming pool patrons, and in support of Lifesaving Society recommendations, the City of Barrie has adopted the following admission standards:

ith the ground-breaking this past

March and earth works and building

services complete, construction on the

new Painswick Branch of Barrie’s Public Library

will commence any day now. In a year’s time,

Barrie south end residents will have a public

library to call their very own.

The new 15,000 sq. ft. stand alone single story

library will front onto Dean Avenue just west of

the Big Bay Point and Yonge Street intersection.

The facility will occupy two plus acres of the

full four acre land parcel site and has been

designed with the community’s needs in mind:

an open concept with delineated spaces for

adults, teens, children, computers, and quiet

study areas and shelving to accommodate

approximately 130,000 items including books

and other format material.

The new branch will also house a multi-purpose

community room, able to accommodate large

gatherings, meetings, and activities, designed

as a separate space with secure interconnecting

access allowing residents its use during the

library’s after hours.

“The community was fully engaged in the

design process of this new facility and is very

excited about the new Painswick Branch

opening in the Fall 2011,” says Leisure, Transit

& Facilities Department’s Dan Buttineau

who indicates that public support was

overwhelmingly positive.

In 2009, ZAS Architects began the Library’s

modern design that includes the latest

technologies, trends, and building dynamics

such as high efficiency HVAC systems, glazed

window treatment, a louvered shutter system

for natural light control, and fully accessible

design standards. Now that the ground work

is finished, Bertram Construction begins

the balance of the construction aiming for

completion on August 2011 with Occupancy

and Doors Open slated for Fall 2011.

Barrie’s downtown library, which spans 40,000

sq. ft. and houses over 1 million books and other

materials lacks sufficient capacity to serve our

growing population and its information needs.

Although it possesses over 95,000 registered

users, usage studies show that a much smaller

percentage of south end residents are using the

current facility.

“All cities the size of Barrie have three or four locations with more than double the square footage per capita,” says Al Davies, Director of Library Services.

The new Painswick Branch will therefore

improve library access to south end residents

while providing more space to house a much

needed larger inventory. Plus, a regular courier

system will operate continuously between

the main library and the south end branch,

ensuring library serviceability.

The Total Project Cost for the Library’s new

Painswick Branch is approximately $5.5M with

funding from Development Charges, Capital

Reserves, and a $1M Fund-raising campaign

lead by the Barrie Public Library Board’s Fund-

raising Committee.
