Thus on Saturday September 25th, Barrie joins many cities across Canada for Culture Days, a first ever pan-Canadian event that brings both residents and the arts and cultural community together. “In Barrie, we are thrilled to have an event that is solely designed to heighten the profile of the arts and celebrate culture in our community. We are part of a nation- wide initiative that demonstrates that we, as a community, value the incredible contribution that the arts makes to our city.“ says Onalee Groves from Barrie’s Department of Culture. This new Canadian celebration emphasizes the arts and cultural sector’s vital contribution to both the economic and social development of our communities and to the overall health of our country. It is made possible by volunteers collaborating together to raise the awareness, accessibility, participation and engagement by all citizens in the arts and cultural life of their communities. During the event, residents are offered the opportunity to mix it up with members of the arts community through mostly free, hands-on, interactive activities where they can participate in the “behind the scenes” world of artists, creators, historians, curators, and designers from the Barrie region. Part of the operational plan of this new facility is the implementation of a water meter testing, calibration and repair program under the direction of the Water Customer Services Department. This program will cover all facets of water meter testing, calibration and repair and as such requires the procurement of a recirculation system such that adequate system pressure and flow can be provided for the operation of all meter test bench apparatus’ at full capacity, simultaneously. A secondary goal of this procurement includes the reduction of water sent to waste so as to prevent the wastage of treated potable water. The City of Barrie is engaging in the Request for Quotation process for supply and installation of Water Treatment Recirculation Tank and ancillary equipment for the new Surface Water Treatment Plant (SWTP) located at 20 Parkside Drive, Barrie, Ont. The SWTP is a facility built to meet and exceed the needs of the City of Barrie and the Safe Drinking Water Act. Part of the operational plan of this new facility is the implementation of a water meter testing, calibration and repair program under the direction of the Water Customer Services Department. This program will cover all facets of water meter testing, calibration and repair and as such requires the procurement of a recirculation system such that adequate system pressure and flow can be provided for the operation of all meter test bench apparatus’ at full capacity, simultaneously. A secondary goal of this procurement includes the reduction of water sent to waste so as to prevent the wastage of treated potable water.

The City of Barrie wishes to inform residents and businesses that Mary Street, between Dunlop Street West and Ross Street, will be temporarily converted to permit two-way traffic. Currently this section of Mary Street is designated and operates as a one-way street in the northbound direction.

This provision is being made in order to facilitate the construction on Dunlop Street West (from Toronto Street to Mary Street) and within the intersection of Dunlop Street West and Mary Street as part of Contract 2010-025T.

The traffic routing exemption will be effective: Tuesday, September 7, 2010

The temporary traffic exemption is expected to remain in effect until December 2010.

During this temporary traffic exemption on-street parking on Mary Street, between Dunlop Street West and Ross Street, will be prohibited.

Individuals considered for this award must be a resident of Barrie. The award will be will be presented to individual(s), who have volunteered selflessly, who have made a significant contribution to the life style of the community and through exceptional achievement, have benefited others and brought honour to the City of Barrie.
