Die eerste groot plaaslike fondsinsamelingword Sondag vanaf 10:00 by die Uitenhageduiweklub in Mitchellstraat gehou.
“Ons gaan ’n rolstoel oorhandig aan ’n oud-polisielid wat sy been verloor het. Verdergaan ons fondse insamel om nog rolstoele te
bekom,” het Hall gesê.Die bywoningssyfer vir Sondag se byeen-
koms staan tans op sowat 150 motorfietsryersen verkeie donateurs het reeds bygedra totdie dag aktiwiteite.
“Ons begin met skriflesing en gebed, waar-na vliegduiwe vrygelaat word. Dan is dit tydvir vermaak.”
Aktiwiteite van die dag sluit in rolstoelres-ies, toutrek, bandgooi (tyre throw) en nog ve-le ander speletjies waar pryse gewen kanword.

Matric girls who attended their matricdance cannowstart enteringour competitionand stand a chance to win fabulous prizes.It is the first time that the competition will
be brought to you by the UD News, after itshuge success in our sister publication, thePEExpress last year,which sawclose to 400 qual-ifying entries.This year we are looking for thematric girl
whohas the complete look to becomeour firstMiss Matric Dance. Entrants will be judgedon their overall look – including the dress,hair, make-up and accessories – so be sure tosend a photo where the judges can clearly getthe complete picture.Our judges will choose three finalists each
month in August, September and October,making up nine (9) finalists. Members from Uitenhage police conducted aroadblockwith the assistance of the local traf-fic last Friday on the R334, between Mother-well and Uitenhage and a total of 52 trafficfines were issued.
Uitenhagepolicemembers also visitedvari-ous liquor outlets in town and three fineswere issued in terms of the non-compliancewith the liquor act.
According to W/O Gerda Swart, a 22-year-old suspect was arrested after Uitenhage po-lice members followed up on information.
“The suspectwas found in possession of sto-len VW parts worth more than R250 000. Hewas arrested on the spot in DurbanStreet,”said W/O Swart.
The suspect appeared in the UitenhageMagistrate’s Court on Monday.

Alta Lategan, a retired music teacher fromUitenhage, discovered that the town is
home to the biggest Mohair processing plantand decided to introduce kids to workings ofthis industry.
She became involved with a group of chil-dren from her area (ages 8-17). They visit heron a weekly basis at home where she teachesthem from the Bible and tries to expose themto a wider world.
“She contacted Mohair SA for assistance.Touched by her story Mohair SA decided tocollaborate with the local Mohair processors.SAMIL agreed to co-ordinate an educational
outing for the children,” said Robyn Rüttersfrom Mohair SA Media and Communications.
“The eyes of 12 children lit up as they wereguided on a tour through Cape Mohair andWool to explain the sorting process of thegreasy mohair. The tour ended by handing allthe children a chance to let their hair downby jumping into the heaps of Mohair.”
The young audience enthusiasticallyquizzed their friendly “tourguide”, MichellePyper from SAMIL and loved experimentingwith the Mohair yarns.
When their outing came to an end eachchild received aMohair hamper that includeda pair of Mohair socks, as well as a Mohairblanket to keep him or her warm during win-ter. They expressed their heartfelt apprecia-

The young running stars from Uiten-hage’sGamblePharmacy teamtook thelead from the start in the second addi-
tion of the Nelson Mandela Bay Train Raceand crossed the finish line in 1 hour 57 min-utes.
This year the runners got the better of thetrain with the top four teams beating thetrain, as unexpected signal delays along theroute slowed down the defending champion(the train).
This was the second addition of the NelsonMandela Bay Train Race, hosted by NMBT,where athletes took on machine in a raceagainst theMetrorail train between Port Eliz-abeth and Uitenhage stations.
Defending champions IAC Investments ar-rived some 5minutes laterwhilst the club cat-egory defending champions Charlo ACcrossed the line in third place overall to claimtheir category honours once again.
The Nelson Mandela Bay Train Race is aunique biathlon relay event which is the onlysporting event in the metro which involvesthe three towns of theMetro as runners start-ed in Port Elizabeth before heading throughSwartkops, Redhouse, Despatch and intoUitenhage.
“We were blessed with perfect weatherwhich made for a very festive event,” saidrace organiserMichael Zoetmulder fromnon-profit events company Zsports.
“Not onlywere the competing teamshavingfun, but the 700 train passengers also had agreat time along the route and at the festivalfinish at Uitenhage Station.
“We anticipate this event to grow substan-tially in popularity as one of the Provincesleading corporate team building events.”
