This quote dates back to 1911 when ArthurBrisbane expressed his thoughts regarding thepower of a single still image. Well, this expres-sion is still true after 102 years!In Uitenhage, pictures, photography and vide-

ography are synonymous with the Andersonfamily. For the past 40 years Daryl and his wifeAnnette are familiar professionals seen at wed-dings and schools taking pictures.“If a photo tells a story, I can tell you the pho-

tographerwho took that shot could tell youmuchmore,” said Daryl Anderson from Photo Centreat Binnehof Centre in Uitenhage.“There always is that special feel to a photo

which catches your eye and urges you to captureit. And I can tell you it sometimes is difficult todelete some of these photos.”Daryl’s passion for photography was inherit-

ed by his daughter Melissa who established herown studio, Melissa Anderson Photography inGraaff Reinet Road, Uitenhage. Her expertisewas honoured after being nominated the BestWedding Photographer in the Eastern Cape dur-ing 2010, 2011 and 2012.Melissa Anderson Photography this year cele-

brates its 10thyear in thephotographyandprint-ing industry.Daryl started takingwedding photos at the age

of 15 with a Yashica camera. He bought it withmoney earned during school holidays workingat Brocketts Sports for 5 cents a day. Melissa re-ceived her first camerawhen shewas 6 years old

and at the age of 9 she assisted her dad, takingChristmas photos and earned R5 a day.“My dad has taught me the techniques of pho-

tography and his passion was my inspiration.Nothing ever fell in my lap. I had to work veryhard, but the sweat and tears were all worth itas today we share our passion for taking qualitypictures.“His best advice everwas, you are only as good

as your last shot,” said Melissa.According to Daryl, “She received no hand-

outs. Melissa really had to work hard to achievethe successes she today enjoys. With taking pho-tos at more than 4 000 weddings, I’ve learned alot and therefore tried to equip her with the bestadvice to prevent her frommaking the mistakesI made.”Inhis teenageyears,Daryl built himself a dark

room to develop his photos. Apparently manyof his mother’s kitchen utensils “disappeared”and were “transformed” to extend the range ofdeveloping tools he needed.“Developing photos was very exciting as you

literally saw the image come alive.”Melissa said the most difficult part is choos-

ing photos. “I can’t choose. I know the feelingI felt of each shot I took. It sometimes is heart-breaking to see clients not choosing the photosI know are the best ones.“Mymotto in life is: ‘Under promise and over

deliver’. Togive something special tomyclientsand to give more than what they expect,” saidMelissa.The passion for photography that Daryl and

Melissa share emphasizes the saying that“beauty indeed is in the eye of the beholder.”

The bikers of the Evolution MotorcycleClub visited Minette House in Uitenhage

to spend some time with the 32 mentally chal-lenged adults and staff of the institution.

The residents were not only treated witha braai, but the bikers also donated 36 duvetsets and linen, as well as an industrial wash-ing machine to the institution.

“The total donation could be more thanR8 000. ACT Fire also contributed towards

the duvet sets,” said Gerrie Bezuidenhout,Chairperson of Huis Minette Trustees.

“The Trustees of Minette House would liketo thank the Evolution Motorcycle Club andall the businesses and the public who madethis donation.
