Whatever your preference on the subject of this Christmas season I hope I ve covered all my bases so as not to offend anyone. Speaking of offending someone, I would like for every- one to understand that if you are contacted by me or one of the DG Team Members (1st or 2nd Vice Governor, Cabinet Secretary, Cabinet Treasurer, GLT Coordinator, GMT Coordi- nator, Immediate PDG, or Zone Chair) about an issue please dont take offense. We all have a job to do and were just trying to do it the best we can. For example, you might get a call that your club owes the district or LCI for dues or a purchase and that bill is now 60 days past due. Or, you might get a call that your club hasnt filed the Monthly Membership Report (MMR) for the past six months. In the first example, if you owe LCI money and you dont pay then you are subject to having your clubs charter pulled at some point. And nobody wants that to happen! As to the second example, having your club secretary file the MMR each month, even if you dont have anything new to report, is the only way LCI has of keeping up with what s go- ing on with your club. Sure, you may not have any new mem- bers or dropped members to report. You may not have any address correcons to make. But going online and filing the MMR electronically is so easy to do! And let me use an old cliché here: if I can do it anybody can do it! I am secretary for my club and I file those MMRs each month on line. At first it wasnt easy (and LCIs website used to not be as friendlyas it is now) but I soon got the hang of it and now theres noth- ing to it. Now, as for filing the Service Acvies Report – yes, there is a lile more to that. But, in the long run it is worth it to file these reports. Plus, you can aach pictures to the Ser- vice Acvity report you file with LCI. Years from now, when most of us wont be here, future members will be able to contact LCI for the historical record of your club. Suppose theres a fire or something and all of your records are de- stroyed? LCI will have these reports on file that a future member could access through them to learn about the past of their club. Isnt that wonderful? So while your club secre- tary might not think its worth the trouble now, please let them know that it is. Encourage them to file these monthly reports even though theres nothing new to report. As an added bonus, you dont have to send this informaon to the District Newsleer Editor for him to publish in the newsleer. He gets that informaon from the MMRs and Service Acvity Reports each club files with LCI. This means less work for club secretaries! If any club member would like to know more about how to use, and ulize, LCI s website please contact PDG Lil Shurtleff, our District Global Leadership Team (GLT) Coordinator at cshurtleff@coastalnow.net and she will be more than happy to assist you. DG Jon Winters

    Fellow Lions,

Merry Christmas! Happy Hanukah! Season’s Greetings! Happy Holidays! Whatever your preference on the subject of this Christmas season I hope I’ve covered all my bases so as not to offend anyone.

Speaking of offending someone, I would like for every-one to understand that if you are contacted by me or one of the DG Team Members (1st or 2nd Vice Governor, Cabinet Secretary, Cabinet Treasurer, GLT Coordinator, GMT Coordi-nator, Immediate PDG, or Zone Chair) about an issue please don’t take offense. We all have a job to do and we’re just trying to do it the best we can.

For example, you might get a call that your club owes the district or LCI for dues or a purchase and that bill is now 60 days past due. Or, you might get a call that your club hasn’t filed the Monthly Membership Report (MMR) for the past six months. In the first example, if you owe LCI money and you don’t pay then you are subject to having your club’s charter pulled at some point. And nobody wants that to happen! As to the second example, having your club secretary file the MMR each month, even if you don’t have anything new to report, is the only way LCI has of keeping up with what’s go-ing on with your club. Sure, you may not have any new mem-bers or dropped members to report. You may not have any address corrections to make. But going online and filing the MMR electronically is so easy to do! And let me use an old cliché here: if I can do it anybody can do it! I am secretary for my club and I file those MMRs each month on line. At first it wasn’t easy (and LCI’s website used to not be as ‘friendly’ as it is now) but I soon got the hang of it and now there’s noth-ing to it.

Now, as for filing the Service Activities Report – yes, there is a little more to that. But, in the long run it is worth it to file these reports. Plus, you can attach pictures to the Ser-vice Activity report you file with LCI. Years from now, when most of us won’t be here, future members will be able to contact LCI for the historical record of your club. Suppose there’s a fire or something and all of your records are de-stroyed? LCI will have these reports on file that a future member could access through them to learn about the past of their club. Isn’t that wonderful? So while your club secre-

tary might not think it’s worth the trouble now, please let them know that it is. Encourage them to file these monthly reports even though there’s nothing new to report. As an added bonus, you don’t have to send this information to the District Newsletter Editor for him to publish in the newsletter. He gets that information from the MMRs and Service Activity Reports each club files with LCI. This means less work for club secretaries! If any club member would like to know more about how to use, and utilize, LCI’s website please contact PDG Lil Shurtleff, our District Global Leadership Team (GLT) Coordinator at [email protected] and she will be more than happy to assist you.

In closing, may all of you have a safe and joyful Christmas, spent with family and friends, and I wish for you a prosperous & successful 2017!

    Yours in Service to Others,

    Jon Winters, DG

There were three club entries for the Peace Poster Con-test for District 18 N. The winner from Liberty Coastal has been forwarded to compete in the Multiple District 18 Con-test.

  • Second Place went to Pooler Lions Club, Artist is Amy Zhang.

    (Continued from page 1)

Third place was Julia Hethcox’s submission from the Bell-ville Lions Club.

Congratulations to all of the young artists for their artistic expressions of peace.

Clubs are reminded that this is a worthwhile public rela-tions project that builds the bonds between the Lions and our youth. Remember that the youth is our future as community leaders.

All Lions of Georgia have an amazing opportunity waiting for them. It is the Region Lions Leadership In-stitute!

RLLI is scheduled for April 28-30 at the Georgia Baptist Conference Center in Toccoa. This is the first time in many, many years that we Lions of MD-18 have hosted a RLLI. As Lions of Georgia, we should take ad-vantage of this and every Lion—no matter if you are a new Lion or a Lion of many years—should seriously consider attending RLLI.

Take advantage of this opportunity to further your understanding of Lionism! Complete a registration form today and send it with your payment to the ad-dress on the form.

The MD PDG Association as well as every District PDG Association is offering at least two scholarships to attend this RLLI. The amount may vary from district to district. All you need to do is to contact your District PDG Association for more information. The scholarship is payable to you upon completion of the RLLI.

If you need more information, please contact me.

This commemorative coin is crafted to be rich in the symbolic history of Lions first century of service. Each coin is packaged in its own presentation case and is accompanied by a certificate of authenticity.

One Beautifully Engraved Coin—Many Noble Purposes

For a limited time only, you can order this historic Lions Centennial keepsake and support the life-changing work of Lions Clubs International Foundation

(LCIF). For each coin sold, US$10 is authorized to be paid to LCIF. This represents a US$4 million opportuni-ty to improve the lives of people in need through LCIF initiatives around the world.

These collectable coins make great gifts for family and friends and are the perfect way to show appre-ciation to your club members for outstanding service.

    Supplies Are Limited

Lions Clubs Centennial coins will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. Once sold out, no addi-tional coins will be minted. Emory Vision 20/20 Project Partnership Takes Shape

We are excited to announce our participation in GO-Emory's Vision 20/20 Georgia Project, where The Lighthouse will collaborate with Georgia's vision-focused programs, working to reduce barriers to care by increasing access, edu-cation of potentially blinding eye conditions, and reduce cases of preventable

    blindness in the state.

Spearheaded by Emory's Global Ophthalmology Director Danny Haddad, the initiative - inline with the World Health Organization and the International Agency for Prevent Blindness's global mission - is a right-to-sight initiative that aims to eliminate preventable blindness globally by 2020.

    Membership during the Holidays

The Christmas – New Year Holidays are full of social activities. Office Christmas parties, New Year’s Eve parties, church socials, house parties, family reunions, etc. It’s a time of happiness and joy as we cele-brate the birth of Christ, contemplate the passing year and anticipate the coming of the new year 2017. We will likely interface with more people during this holiday season than at any other time of the year. It’s a great time to look for prospective new members, tell the inspiring story of our 100-year-old Associa-tion of Lions Clubs International and tell the story of the extensive community service done by our local Lions Club. It’s a good time to invite prospective members to our holiday projects and to our club Christ-mas party. Take full advantage of this great opportunity for growth.

And a word about the Lions Code of Ethics …….. “TO BE CAREFUL with my criticism and liberal with my praise; to build up and not destroy.” I highly recommend that the Code be made into a durable poster that is prominently displayed at all Lions functions and that the Code by made a part of all club orientation programs.

Good Luck to you all. - Ron Zeppieri, PCC, District N GMT Coordinator [email protected]

  • UPCOMING ELECTIONS—IMPORTANT FOR ALL LIONS We all must remember that

leadership begins at home—at the home club of each and every Lion in 18-N. How many clubs are actively mentoring their members to become leaders in their club and then in our district? This is an important part of Lionism. Each of us became a Lion to be a leader in our community through our club serving our community. We further our leadership by accepting leadership roles in our district.

In less than 90 days—3 months—the Lions of 18-N will gather in Pooler, GA, to elect the officers for 2017-2018. We will elect the District Governor, 1st Vice District Governor, and the 2nd Vice District Governor. Each office has qualifica-tions that must be met in order for that Lion to be on the bal-lot.

The District Governor Candidate must: be an active member in good standing (both the Lion and the Club have paid all their dues to LCI and the District); be endorsed by his/her club or the majority of the Lions in the District; be cur-rently service as 1st Vice District Governor within this district.

The 1st Vice District Governor Candidate must: be an active member in good standing (both the Lion and the Club have paid all their dues to LCI and the District; be endorsed by his/her club or the majority of the Lions in the District; be currently service as 2nd Vice District Governor within this district.

The 2nd Vice District Governor Candidate must submit evidence that he/she has met the requirements of: be an active member in good standing (both the Lion and the Club have paid all their dues to LCI and the District; be endorsed by his/her club or the majority of the Lions in the District; served as Club President; served on the club Board of Direc-tors for two years; served on the District Cabinet as a zone or region chair, cabinet secretary or cabinet treasurer for a year with none of the service being accomplished concurrently.

At our convention, we will elect the three members of the DG Team listed above. In addition we will elect a Director to the Georgia Lions Lighthouse Foundation and a Director to the Georgia Lions Camp on even years only (No election this year). Both of these organizations have qualifications for this position stated in their Constitution and By-Laws. Ed. Note– The Camp director elected last year resigned due to health issues and was replaced by District Cabinet appointment per Camp Constitution. Appointment is for remainder of term.

Please look to your club members for those who have met the requirements for being leaders in 18-N. Encourage your club members to be active—not only in your club but also in our district.

    Lil Shurtleff, 18-N GLT

More Members Means More Service Dear Lion,

We surpassed the 1.4 million member mark at the end of October thanks to Lions like you. It's a great accomplishment, and I want to thank you for working to make your club and your community stronger.

Reaching the 1.4 million mark early in the year puts us on a path to continue membership growth into 2017 and be-yond. It also puts us in position to be the largest we've ever been, allowing us to serve more people than ever before.

The goal of our new strategic plan, LCI Forward, is to tri-ple our service impact by serving 200 million people a year by 2021. More members means we can provide more service to those who need us most. Each member serves 70 people on average, so imagine how many more people we can help by inviting others to join us in service, and by keeping our cur-rent members as Lions.

To keep this momentum going and to help reach our service goals, I am asking every member to think about some-one they know who shares our desire to help people and then ask them to join us in service.

Thank you again for helping us grow so we can serve even more people. Let's keep climbing new mountains to-gether!

    Very truly yours,

    Chancellor Bob Corlew

    Your International President

    JENNIFER WARE INTERNATIONAL DIRECTOR

Jennifer Ware, from Rapid River, Michigan, USA, was elected to serve a two-year term as a director of Lions Clubs International at the associa-tion’s 99th International Convention held in Fukuoka, Japan, June 24 through 28, 2016. Director Ware is a psychiatric nurse. A member of the Brampton Township Days River AR Lions Club since 1993, she has held many offices within the association, including club secretary, club director, district governor, council chairperson, district GLT coordinator and district Sight Preservation and Action chairperson.

In recognition of her service to the association, she has received numerous awards including the Member-ship Key Award, an International Leadership Awards and an International President’s Award. She is also a Melvin Jones Fellow. Director Ware and her husband, Jeff, also a Lion, have one daughter.

  • Immediate Past District Governor Larry Varnadoe and Lion Jean visited the Port Wentworth Lions Club on December 1st where he inducted 1 new member, Andy Quinney, (former mayor of Garden City). IPDG Larry also installed the officers of the club for 2016-2017. Pictures below are from the meeting.

  • We honor individual Lions who have an anniversary in this month in joining the Lions, 15 or more years ago. Information for this column was obtained from LCI records as listed at MY LCI. Please join me in thanking these Lions for their tireless ser-vice to our communities. Does your club have an active member growth plan? If not, why not?

Thanksgiving is always a fun time with family, friends and lots of food. We Lions need to be thankful for those who came before us, for those who wanted to see Lionism in every community, They rolled up their sleeves and made it happen all around the world. It was an honor to be a Lion, and they wanted to share it with everyone.

Our current International President, Bob Cor-lew, wrote about a Past International President, Irving Camp. In 1927 Camp wrote an article for Lions Magazine. He said, " Show me a club that simply meets and eats, and I will show you a club that has failed to respond to the call of service as invited in the very principles of our great, unselfish organization."

We have Mountains to Climb. Let us rededi-cate ourselves to serving our communities and our fellow men and women who are in need. If we do this today, we lay the groundwork for the fu-ture, so 100 years from now there will be a GA Lion asking, "What is needed and what can we do?"

    Merry Christmas!

This is our 100th anniversary and we continue to have the best possi-ble speakers and visitors to our state conventions. We look forward to having a great time with you! There are a couple of additional points I should make. First, if you have any questions about what you've already paid for, please contact David White at [email protected]. Next, if you have already registered, you do not need to fill out another form, but it would not hurt to make sure David and I have your current emails. We've made sure that EVERYONE qualifies for the fantastic $95/night rate. simple vaccine provides immunity against measles. That is why we Lions committed to raising US$30 million for Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, by 2017. The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and the United Kingdom's Department for In-ternational Development (DFID) will match our contribu-tions, for a total of up to US$60 million mobilized for the fight against measles.

Over the next year, we will need to raise approximately US$10 million to fulfill our promise to the world's children. I am asking each and every Lion to renew your dedication to the fight against this deadly disease. Together, we have vaccinated millions of children. But the work is not done and we cannot rest until it is. Please make a donation to-day to LCIF's measles fund so that no more families have to endure the heartbreaking loss of a child to measles.

    Dear Lions,

We have seen many amazing advancements throughout our lives. We have walked on the moon, we have phones that guide us when we are lost and we have robots that perform intricate surgeries. Yet, we still see hundreds of children die every single day from a vaccine-preventable disease.

Measles is a highly contagious disease. Those that survive are often left with serious complications, including brain damage, hearing loss and blindness. Too many children are lost to a disease that we can prevent. For about US$1, a
