KIALLA CENTRAL PRIMARY SCHOOL NEWSLETTER Page 3
Last week we celebrated Education Week. Our students participated in a whole school Kialla Central Photo
Scavenger Hunt over Monday and Tuesday. On Wednesday we hosted our Open Day sessions for perspective new families. A big thank you to Darcy, Josh R, Erin and Isaac who spoke about Kialla Central PS. I would also like to thank Edie, Gemma, Bob Scott and Stacey Rae who shared their experiences of our school. On Thursday we had St John’s Ambulance visit giving the students some basic first aid skills on how to cope in an emergency. The highlight of the week for most students was our Performance in a Day with Mrs Monk. Each class worked with her for an hour and then after lunch each grade performed their item. F/1s did the Party Plate Symphony, the 2/3s played ukuleles and sang and the 4/5/6s danced and sang to Bruno Mars’ “Uptown Funk”. It was great to see our mums, dads, grandparents and siblings enjoy this performance too. Education Week takes a lot of organisation to make it the special celebration it is for our students. Thank you to everyone who contributed and helped out during the week.
Our whole school excursion for 2018 has been revealed to our students … we’re off to see the Wizard, the wonderful Wizard of OZ! On Tuesday 17th July, which is the first Tuesday back next term, we are going to Lygon St for lunch as our Italian experience, then on to the Regent Theatre to see The Wizard of OZ and hopefully we will get to meet some of the cast members. Heather Adderly’s nephew, Lewis, is in the ensemble and she has spoken to him about catching up with us when we are there. I just need to call him to confirm arrangements. We felt this was an fantastic experience for our students. Today I sent home a “Dad helpers” note to our dads who have their Working with Children Checks, as Mr Zito will need some help with the boys for toilet breaks. Permission notes and further information will be sent home in the next couple of weeks.
I will be out of the school for a few days over the next week. On Wednesday 30th May I am in Benalla finding out about the procedures and
processes involved with our School Review that will take place next term. Next Monday 4th and Tuesday 5th June I am in Melbourne at our Regional Principal’s Conference. On Wednesday 6th I have a professional learning day for students who are in out-of-home care which is at the new Shepparton office. So I’m back at school on Thursday 7th June before our Curriculum Day on Friday 8th June. While I am away it will be business as usual. The staff will share dealing with any issues that arise and can still contact me on my mobile. I apologise for any inconvenience that this may cause but there is an expectation Principals attend these days.
Friday 8th June is a Curriculum Day to allow teachers time to write their reports. There is no school for students and the school will be closed. This gives our families a 4 day long weekend as the Queen’s Birthday is on Monday 11th June. School resumes on Tuesday 12th June.
The Shepparton Lions Club recently donated a set of 8 books published by Cricket Australia. Jill King and Jack Ace meet past and present Australian Cricket Champions and get fascinating facts and advice about the great game. The books are titled I can be … Mitch Marsh, Fawad Ahmed, Ian Healey, Greg Chappel, Holly Ferling, Ellyse Perry, Meg Lanning and Belinda Clark. A big thank you to Chris Scott President of the Shepparton Lions Club.
Our Berry Street collection will finish this Thursday 31st May. Thank you to
those families who have brought in items for this worthy cause as every little bit helps! I would also like to take this opportunity to thank Pental for their generous donation of bottles of shower gel for this collection.
There are quite a few nasty bugs going through our school at the moment. Please ensure if your child/ren are unwell that they stay home and make a full recovery. It seems that a couple of
these bugs return a couple of days later. It certainly has not been a good term for sickness.
I would like to thank Cheryl Rowstron for her generosity in volunteering to
run our Outside School Hours Care Service in Patsi’s absence. She has done a fantastic job and we are extremely grateful. It is now time for Cheryl to enjoy retirement. We have been fortunate to have her show Amy Howard the ropes who will be taking on OSHC as of next week. I am not expecting Patsi back this term due to illness. There are still a couple of logistical issues I am sorting out regarding our OSHC service.
Please note there will be no newsletter next week as I will be away. However, footy tipping will still be sent home.

K.C.P.S. Footy Tipping Competition 2018
Talking Footy with Magic Magpies
Round 10 Wrap
On Friday night the Magpies ran out 35 point winners over the Bulldogs, in a hard fought
encounter. The Dogs did not score a goal in the second half of the match. Adam Treloar had
a massive 40 possessions for the Pies. Final scores: Magpies 13.12.95 to the Bulldogs 8.7. 55.
On Saturday at the MCG the Tigers answered St Kilda’s challenge to clear away and win by
28 points. The Tigers disposal efficiency was only 71% (259 effective disposals) compared to
the Saints 77% (338 effective disposals). Free kicks also favoured the Saints 19 to the Tigers
14.
At the Gabba the Swans got up 10.7.67 to Lions 6.13.49. If the Lions had of kicked a little
straighter they certainly would have given the Swans a real fright. These 2 teams were
pretty well head to head on all other key statistics with nothing much separating these two
clubs on the day.
The Cats took the four points winning 11.7.73 to the Blues 5.15.45. The Blues were gallant
but the Cats had the class and got the cream in the end. The Blues were dreadful in front of
goal with their inaccurate kicking. I’m sure there will be a fair bit of kicking for goal in this
week’s preparation.
The final game on Saturday night was at Spotless Stadium where the Bombers took control of
the undermanned GWS Giants. The footy gurus were very impressed by the Bombers
performance labelling it absolutely superb! I’m not sure it was that good? There is certainly
a little buzz starting to emerge from the Bombers fans.
The Eagles are back on top of the AFL Ladder after defeating the Hawks by 15 points to
record their ninth consecutive win. The Hawks on the other hand will need to go back to the
drawing board after losing their third in a row. The Hawks couldn’t even put a win on the
board for Birthday Boy and Auskick Grid Player Billy ~ Grade 1. Better luck next week Billy
Bob! Congratulations to Alan Keat who was looking very dapper with his West Coast Eagles
scarf around his neck on Monday morning.
Miss Baker has a grin from ear to ear as her beloved Demons are on fire! The Demons came
out and belted the Crows by 91 points. Who would have predicted that? The Demons pulled
some big statistics : 245 kicks, 223 handballs 308 uncontested possessions, 125 marks of
which 109 were uncontested and had a 74% shooting accuracy with 23 goals and 8 behinds.
It’s seems hard not to think there will be some September action for the Melbourne Footy
Club this season.
Digger’s Rooboys are bringing home the bacon too. The Kangas kicked 5 goals to 2 in the final
quarter to run out a very impressive 28 point winners over the Dockers in challenging
conditions at Optus Stadium in Perth. Final scores were Dockers 8.10.58 to the Kangas
12.14. 86. The Kangas move to fifth on the ladder and face the Lions next week which you
would expect will be another win securing their place in the 8.
Footy Tipping Stars of the Week – for Round 10 the following tipsters shared this week’s
Jackpot taking home $21.00 each: Big Mac, Frog & Toad, and Greymouse. Congratulations!
Footy Tipping Ladder Leaders – for Round 10 are: Tradie Sam stays on top of the leaders
board with 63. Bomber 10 & Deescraeful are 2nd position on 62. Dagwood Dog has moved to
3rd spot on his own with a 61 and then closely following on 60 are: Digger’s Rooboys, Fope’s
Hopes, Magic Magpies, Mrs O and Rocket.
This week’s new Jackpot is $32.00
