Last Friday we had some students compete in the Division Athletics

Championships at McEwen Reserve in Shepparton. The competition is strong as it is the top athletes across the large and small primary schools from across the Shepparton Network. The results were as follows: Kasey ~ 1st Triple Jump & 3rd High Jump

Madi ~ 4th Shot Putt & 5th Hurdles Edie ~ 4th 800m & 3rd 1500m

Riley O ~ 5th Long Jump Jakob ~ 1st Shot Putt

Leah ~ 5th Triple Jump We also had our 12/13 year old girls relay compete. Well done to Kasey, Madi, Jenna & Edie. Congratulations to Kasey, Edie & Jakob who have now qualified for the Regional Athletics Championships in Albury in October. Thanks to our parents for getting our students to this event. Yesterday we had Shabbah an African Drummer visit our school to perform for all of our students. He shared some information about his African culture and the background to the instruments he had including: drums, bells and shakers. Shabbah had all of us up dancing, singing and playing the instruments. There was lots of laughter and smiles from everyone. See Classroom Wrap for some photos capturing our African Drumming performance.

Nathan Neff is back this week as part of his Principal Preparation Program. Please make him feel

welcome as you see him around school. On Thursday and Friday of this week I will be attending the Shepparton Network Principal’s Conference in Melbourne. It is held at the Mecure Mel-bourne Treasury Gardens so we have access to speakers from various areas of the De-partment from Treasury Place. Our theme this year is Leadership in the Education State. Additional guest speakers include: Dr Claudia Strugnell (Deakin University) researcher in child & adolescent obesity, Professor Richard

Teese (Melbourne University) specialist in school systems, Professor Field Rickards (Dean, Melbourne Graduate School of Education) specialising in audiology, Andrew Douch (Educator) connecting Students & Teachers Using Emerging technologies, Gary Davison Managing Director of Mining One and Craig Percival is a no limits endurance athlete. Nathan will also be attending the conference. It will be business as usual while I’m away. As of Term 3 our bus fares for

families not eligible for free bus travel will pay $100 per family per term or $30 (Moores Rd) per family

per term. Recently, the Department released new School Bus Guidelines that recommends fees at $120 per student per term. Our increases are minimal compared to these recommendations. A letter was sent home last Friday to those families who pay bus fares. Joanne Stonehouse will be sending home accounts at the end of term.

Our Outside School Hours Care Program is proving to be quite popular which is fantastic. Recently, I advertised for an

OSHC assistant and I am determining what days and hours Heather needs some extra help. Some nights we only have 4 students booked in but then Heather can end up with 15 students that same night. It would be appreciated if families wanting a set day or days can book in advance to assist with my planning for our OSHC program. Currently, our service is 1 educator to 19 students so we are getting close to reaching our maximum on some nights. Our OSHC program is still flexible for our casual users. Your assistance is greatly appreciated. Last year you may recall there was a small schools promotion across radio, TV and a website. The purpose was to as a group of small schools lift our profiles and to be an option for families to consider when selecting a primary school. KIALLA UNITED FOOTY Round 4 match report

In what could be called “the one that got away”, the Southern Power had a great chance to notch up their first win in Saturday’s home game against Northern Blue but ultimately came up short in a see-sawing battle. Our boys jumped out to an early lead and looked a much improved team with the usual suspects in Jacks Baldi and Telford, Liam Mayall and Noah Smith all very active and combining well at both ends of the ground while first gamer Nathan Ferrier, filling in for his big brother, had a hand in 3 of the early goals, fitting

in well up forward. A lapse late in the quarter, however, was a sign of things to come as each side would steal the momentum away from the other in bursts throughout the second and third quarters. Riley Krake was enjoying his best game of the year so far, and Aiden Bollard, also filling in for us, kicked 2 steadying goals to give our boys some hope. The game was a close one right to the end with Kyle Howard and Xavier Scott battling hard all over the ground however with five minutes to go, Northern goaled and stole the momentum away for good, scoring twice more and taking a hard-fought win.

Final scores Southern Power 7 5 47 to Northern Blue 9 11 65. Goal Scorers were Aiden Bollard 2, Noah Smith, Jack Baldi, Liam Mayall, Jack and Ed Telford 1 each. Pizza Hut award went to Kyle Howard. A huge thank you to Aiden Bollard and Nathan Ferrier for filling in and performing brilliantly. Next week sees the battle of the Kialla West co-tenants with the Gold team taking on the Power at home as both teams search for their first win and bragging rights on the training track!

SEMESTER ONE REPORT PROCESS Friday 10th June is a Curriculum Day for report writing. Students are not required at school.

Semester One reports & confirmation of Parent/Teacher interview times will be sent home on Friday 17th June.

Parent/Teacher interviews will be held on Wednesday 22nd & Thursday 23rd June from 4.00pm to 7.00pm. Please remain vigilant in checking your child/children’s hair for head lice. This is the only

In Science we are investigating materials and their properties e.g. why

aren’t towels made of wood?

2/3/4 Baker We are looking at the digraph ‘ow’ as in snow. We are continuing with procedural writing by choosing our own and making it in class. We are investigating Location in Maths.

5/6 Zito This week we are looking at the diagraph ‘ou’ as in young. We are working on Tech Thinker activities for reading groups.

Design & Creativity Technology ~ Miss H & Mrs O Our Tree / Cubby House construction is well underway. There is a fantastic range of designs from simple to complex and being made from a variety of materials. Construction and presentations must be finished by the end of our D&C sessions next Tuesday 6th June.

Italian ~ Signora Pasqalia, Signorina H & Signora Opie Last week we learnt how to introduce ourselves, numbers 1 to 10 (Grades F/1) numbers 1 to 20 for (Grades 2 to 6) and re-visited

our greetings. Signora Pasqalia provides us with lots of games to help us practice our Italian. We are all enjoying her Italian via Polycom. If you would like to see an Italian lesson using the Polycom, please let me know.

Round 10 Wrap – On Friday night the bubble burst for the

Kangaroos when the Swans defeated them by 26 points at the SCG.

On Saturday afternoon the Hawks had a win over the Lions by 48

points, the Power had a good win over the Demons by 45 points up

at Alice Springs and the Saints had a win over the Dockers by 34

points.

On Saturday evening the Dreamtime at the G game was played

where the Tigers defeated the Bombers by 38 points, while over in

Adelaide the Crows had a 22 point win over the Giants.

On Sunday afternoon the Blues had an unexpected win over the

Cats by 19 points, then the Bulldogs had a win over the Magpies by

21 points and to complete round 10 the Eagles the biggest win for

the round when they defeated the Suns by 77 points over in the

west.

Footy Tipping Stars of the Week – for round ten were Fourquarters,

Gromet, Rocket and Saint C who all tipped 7 games correct this

week. Well done to you all.

Footy Tipping Ladder Leaders – after round 10 there is a change in

the leader board this week with Fourquarters on 68, followed by

X-Man on 67 and Coralie, The Old Don and Bomber10 on 65.

Special mention goes to Chazzy Ninja, Gromet, Poppit 05 and

Saint 0 for tipping the Blues to defeat the Cats. Well done to you

all.

Bomber 10 also has inside information that Diggers Rooboys did not

tip the Kangaroos to defeat the Swans. Looks like that one worked

in your favour this week.

Just a reminder that if you do not hand in your tipping sheet you

will receive the away teams for your score.
