Last week our Grade 5/6 students, Mr Z,
Mrs O and I went on our Melbourne Camp
with students and staff from Kialla West.
Our itinerary was action packed starting with
catching the 6.32am train from Shepparton railway
station to Southern Cross station. This year we tried
a new camp facility called CYC City, conveniently
located on the corner of Collins & King Streets. The
facilities and security are outstanding and the
change of venue proved to be a great success, in fact
we have re-booked for 2018. We did a variety of
activities including: The Old Melbourne Gaol, Polly
Woodside, Melbourne Sports & Aquatic Centre, The
Shrine, The MCG & Sports Museum, Eureka
Skydeck, Parliament House (where we met Suzanna
Sheed & feature now on her FB page), familiarised
ourselves with public transport, lots of walking &
stairs and we also explored Melbourne in our smaller
groups e.g. Myer Christmas Window, State Library,
Graffiti Lanes etc. We caught the 12.52pm train
home which saw us arrive back in Shepparton to our
families at 3.23pm.
A big thank you to Mr Z & Mrs O for
the extra hours they put in while on
camp. Our first day was over 17 hours from when
we were at the station at 6.10am until the last
rooms fell asleep at 11.30pm. Also thanks to Mrs
Doonan, Mr V & Mr T from Kialla West for their
assistance & support!
Back at school Mrs Gamble & Miss Baker kept things
operating as usual for our F to 4 students and our
non-campers from the 5 /6. Thank you!
Mrs Stonehouse & Mrs Irwin also assisted while our
Melbourne Camp was on.
Our staff attend camps on good will for the benefit
of our students. They do not get paid any extra nor
get time in lieu. We are extremely lucky to have
such dedicated staff.
A special Melbourne Camp feature will be in next
week’s newsletter.
I received a phone call over the weekend offering 3
boys positions for Somers Camp which left today
until Wednesday 7th December. We had 4 boys
express initial interest in wanting to go of which 2
have accepted. I would like to wish Xavier & Riley O
all the best for this fantastic adventure. Thank you
to Tish Okely who is also going as a visiting teacher.
Booklists for 2017 were sent home
yesterday with each student. These are
due back to school by Wednesday 7th December. All
booklists are due back regardless of whether you are
purchasing items from another supplier. Payment &
pick up of supplies is on Tuesday 24th or Wednesday
25th January from 10.00am to 3.00pm. Any books
that have not been used this year will be sent home
with students this week to help you with ordering
for 2017.
We have just received some sample items of
the uniform we want to change for 2017
e.g. polo shirts & hats. I am not happy with how our
polos and wide brimmed hats are wearing. I have
established a working group to help investigate our
best options. An order form will be sent home
shortly so that an order can be placed for our
families to pick up their uniform order with their
booklist supplies. Further details will be on the order
form.
This upcoming Friday 2nd December is our
traditional Whole School Christmas Lunch
hosted by our fantastic Parents Club.
Students and staff enjoy a 2 course Christmas lunch
together. This is one of our unique events that we
are very proud of at Kialla Central P.S. I don’t
know of any other school that is fortunate to share
in such a special experience.
Parents Club are looking for some helpers to serve
and help with cleaning up. If you are available to
help from 12.45pm to 2.15pm please let me know.
A sincere thank you to our Parents Club who not
only host but fund this event for our school
community.

Friday night 2nd December also sees our
bi-annual student disco at the Kialla Hall
starting at 7.00pm to 9.00pm. This is FREE
and only for students who currently attend
K.C.P.S. Dress to impress ensuring dress code is
appropriate i.e. no singlets, thongs etc. Parents are
welcome to stay or can drop their child/ren off to
ensure they are back by 9.00pm for pick up. Water
will be supplied so students do not need to bring a
drink. This is a fun and enjoyable night which is a
highlight on our school calendar.
Tuesday 6th December is a Victoria wide
Orientation Day. Our Grade 6 students go to
their various Secondary Schools, our new
Foundation students have a whole day at school and
all of our students spend the day in their 2017
class. This is a very exciting time!
On Thursday 8th December it is our
Grade 6 Graduation, invitations to this
milestone were sent home last week. It is important
that you return your RSVP slips for catering and
seating purposes. Students and staff sit down and
enjoy a meal together based on the menu selected by
our Grade 6’s and Parents Club do the catering.
Three Grade 5 students have been asked to be
waiters / waitresses to help serve and clear off dishes
from the table. At 7.30pm parents and families
attend our formal Graduation ceremony where each
students shares “A Primary School Memory &
Future Dreams”, receive their Graduation pack and
then share supper. This is a very special occasion for
our Grade 6 students. Once again thanks to Parents
Club for the extra effort they put in for our
students.
On Friday 9th December our Semester 2
Student Academic Reports will be sent home.
Our teachers are in the final stages of writing and
proofing reports before they are given to me to read.
We all do another cross check before going to a final
print that are signed and sent home. Parent /
Teacher interviews are by request of the teacher or
the parents. Should you require an interview a date
and time needs to be arranged with your child’s
teacher.
Our end of Year School Concert and
Presentations is on Tuesday 13th December. A
separate note outlining costumes, times and
arrangements for the night will be sent home later
this week. This will be a performance like no other in
my time as Principal at Kialla Central. Jacquie
Monk has unveiled some astonishing hidden talents.
A reminder about selling raffle tickets for our
major raffle that is going to be drawn at the
concert. I will be sending home a prize sheet &
sponsors name with a book of tickets this week.
Tickets are $2.00 each or 3 for $5.00 with some
fantastic prizes on offer. Please help support our
school and our sponsors.
Our end of year excursion will be on Friday
16th December. A permission note and
details will be sent home shortly as I am just waiting
on confirmation from a couple of venues. If your
child is not going to be at school for this event, then
please send a note explaining his/her absences as it
does affect the cost of our excursion.
There have been some changes to the Working With
Children Check (W.W.C.C). process. Victorian
applicants will be able to securely verify their
identity online as of the 5th December.
Alternatively, verification can still happen at Aus-
tralia Post. Victorian applicants will no longer need
to supply their own photo. Australia Post will pro-
vide a digital photo free of charge. If you would like
to know more about W.W.C.C. please come and see
me. It is also a timely reminder for those who
already have it to check your expiry date.

SHADE STRUCTURE I am currently in negotiations with Telfords
Building Systems for our permanent shade structure
over the basketball court. This will allow us access to
this area regardless of the weather & also to our
toilets undercover. We have a budget of $75,000 to
undertake this project, which is largely funded by
our major fundraising events over the last couple of
years. Recently, I informed you of a $30,000
planned maintenance grant for the Department. I
am planning on using this money to replace our
asphalt basketball court with a concrete court, new
lines marked on it and replace the basketball
backboards that have perished in the weather. The
planned time frame for these works is the Term 1
holidays in 2017. Once this project is completed, I
hope we can set our sights on a car park.
TWILIGHT WORKING BEE
Our school needs a bit of TLC for our upcoming
events so I propose a twilight Working Bee.
WHEN: Tuesday 6th December
TIME: 4.30pm to 6.30pm
Jobs include: general tidying up, gardening, mowing
lawns, removing branches & sticks, cob webbing,
whipper snipper, blower vac, raking playgrounds &
sandpits etc.
Please bring your own tools, trailers to help get rid
of the rubbish and drinks.
Last week we received 6 new iPads from the
Department to support our Italian Language
Program through virtual conferencing.
We received 6 iPad airs 16GB with Wi-Fi capability.
This now gives us a total of 22 iPads for our
students to use which is fantastic. We also received
some great coverage in the Shepp News on
Wednesday 23rd November. Copies of this article is
on our media boards.
There will be NO Outside School Hours Care on
Tuesday 20th December. School finishes at 1.30pm
as this is the last day of the term so please ensure
you have alternative arrangements in place.
