It is with great pleasure that I announce that Ashlea Baker has gained and accepted an ongoing
position at Kialla Central Primary School. This gives our school stability with our teachers as we plan for the future. Congratulations Miss Baker! Our School Captains, Remi and Xavier, represented Kialla Central Primary School at the Shepparton RSL ANZAC Day ceremony. They laid a wreath on behalf of our school community. Thank you to Andi, Pete, Cath & Bob for their support in getting Remi & Xav to this special event. I was very proud of our School Captains … thank you Remi & Xav!
Last Wednesday Irene Crawford, School Nurse from the School Nursing Program, conducted our Foundation health checks. This involves: parents
completing a detailed survey, Irene reads these and conducts some basic health screening tests. From these results, if a referral is required, then Irene will contact parents to make arrangements for further follow up. This is a fantastic government initiative which identifies any concerns at an early age, such as the need for glasses. Irene will be back on the 10th or 11th May to see our students who were absent or hadn’t returned their questionnaires. Last week we held our first School Council meeting for the term. One of the topics we discussed was our Kialla Central Primary School 10 Year Plan. While we only got 7 replies from our 42 families all of our staff completed the feedback survey. It was reassuring that the projects School Council had identified were the top 3 projects our school community also prioritised. They were: shade structure, car park and a multi-function room for cooking, Science, Art etc. We are now going to do further research and Peter Blake is going to start to develop our draft 1 master plan. The purpose for undertaking this project is so we have a plan
for our future and are prepared for any funding opportunities that may become available. On Tuesday 3rd May we are heading to Merrigum for our M.A.R.C van Literacy Day organised by Fiona Smith. In their grades, our students will rotate around a series of activities for the day based on Shakespeare. Permission notes have been sent home & need to be returned no later than Wednesday 27th May. We will be leaving at 8.00am sharp and returning at 4.30pm.
Please note: our normal school bus will not be operating on this day. Outside of School Hours Care will operate from 4.30pm to 5.30pm.
I would like to encourage our families to join our new phone app called Up-Dated. This app is directly connected to our website so it updates automatically. The app is for iPhones and androids. Please follow the attached directions on how to download it to your phone. Last Thursday, we started Italian with Signora Pasqalia via our Polycom device. The feedback from our students was really positive. They quickly picked up some of the basic words and were very pleased with their efforts. I have included an Italian update in our Classroom Wrap page so you know what we are learning in Italian.
In Design & Creativity Technology this week we are starting our Mother’s day or special person gift.
At Kialla Central, it has become a tradition that our students make a Mother’s Day gift as it is made with love and is very unique! A note was sent home last week asking families to send along $5.00 per child to assist with the cost of making these gifts.

HOT LUNCHES TIPS ... Students have the opportunity to bring a lunch that can be heated up
in our pie warmer on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Some of our grade 5 and 6 students are responsible for our hot lunch program. To help them please do the following: # no frozen food - please thaw any frozen products as this affects heating times; # please wrap food tightly in foil, keep it flat and clearly name your child’s lunch; # let your child know they have a hot lunch so they can put it in the tub; & # hot lunch monitors come to collect the hot lunches at the start of the day. Students can also bring a thermos with hot food in it. I encourage families to avoid the use of boiling water due to OH & S concerns. Our Pie Drive from Fiore’s Bakery Café has been sent home. More order forms are available from the office. Orders and payment are due back to school by Thursday 28th April. Orders will be delivered and be picked up on Thursday 5th May between 3.15pm and 4.00pm in the library.
Also don’t forget our Fundraiser with Shepparton Optical Services. For every person (students, siblings, parents, family, staff or anyone) booked in for an eye test, which is bulk billed, our school will receive a $10 donation. Appointment forms are available at the office.
Parents’ Club are hosting a Family Fun Night on Friday 6th May. A BBQ tea will be available from 6.00pm and a Mystery Movie will begin at 7.00pm. Drinks, popcorn and lollies will also be available to purchase. Families are invited to attend this event. See attached flyer.
Head lice are back with a couple of cases being reported. Parents have to be vigilant with checking and treating their child's hair. This is the only way we can keep them at bay! Your support is appreciated.
Our Sporting Schools Program started last Friday with our Grade 2 to 6 students participating in footy. Our oval was a hype of activity with lots of smiles and laughter. This program will continue to run on Friday afternoons from 2.15pm to 3.15pm.
We have started training for the EGPSSA’s Cross Country. All of our students from F to 6 participate in
our K.C.P.S. Cross Country. Our students run around the designated area of our school grounds recording how many laps they complete for each session. They then receive a certificate with the total number of laps they run/walk. Our Grades 3 to 6 students then go into Princess Park on Friday 6th May to participate in the EGPSSA’s Cross Country trying to qualify for Division then Regional then State. All students need to wear their runners every day for the next few weeks as our KCPS Cross Country can happen on any day at any time. Thanks for your cooperation. Our Grade 5 & 6 students started their Friends For Life Program last Friday with Robyn Hucker (Shepparton Student Support Services Team). The feedback from our students was very positive and they are looking forward to their next session. Debbie Humphries Proud Principal of KCPS

K.C.P.S. Footy Tipping Competition 2016
Talking Footy with Bomber 10
Round 5 Wrap – On Friday night the Hawks came from behind to
defeat the Crows by 3 points. On Saturday afternoon the Swans had
a good win over the Eagles by 39 points, then in the twilight game up
on the Gold Coast the Kangaroos continued on their winning ways
when they defeated the Suns by 38 points. In the night games the
Bulldogs had a good win over the Lions by 53 points and the Cats
also had a good win when they defeated the Power over at the
Adelaide Oval by 48 points. Sunday saw the Giants defeat the Saints
by 47 points, the Blues had their first win for the season by defeating
the Dockers by 4 points and the Demons had a win over the Tigers by
33 points. ANZAC Day saw the Magpies take on the Bombers at the
MCG where the Magpies had a big win over the Bombers by 69
points.
The Kangaroos still remain the only undefeated team so far this
season and the Dockers are the only team to remain winless so far
this season. It is hard to believe that last year after round 5 the
Dockers were the only team to have all 5 games. What a difference a
year makes.
Footy Tipping Stars of the Week – for Round Five were Barrassi,
Poppit 05 and X-Man who all tipped 8 right this week. Well done to
you all.
Footy Tipping Ladder Leaders – after round 5 are Diggers’s Roos and
Fourquarters both on 34, on 33 are Bomber 10 and The Old Don and
Coralie, De’, Greymouse, Magic Magpies and the X-Man are on 32.
Looks like there will be a couple of people wearing Miss H’s Magpie
scarves this week.
The X-Man has made an early call and says that the Kangaroos will
be the 2016 Grand Final winners.
The way the Kangaroos are going at the moment he may well be
right.
The Jackpot currently stands at $84:00
Good tipping everyone!
