Lord, Send out your Spirit and Renew the Face of the Earth!

On behalf of Friars Richard, Germain, Joe, Fathers Alfredo and Jose, Deacons Mark, Lee, Bruce, & Antonio, Sr. Mary Joan -WELCOME BACK!!!!

You have truly been missed! On this Pentecost Sunday we recall the indwelling of the Holy Spirit upon the Apostles on the first Pentecost so many years ago. Like you and I, they were befuddled. They had been with Jesus for three years learning and witnessing from Him. They heard His teachings, witnessed His miracles. The trauma of the Passion and Death caused them to be frightened and to feel alone, yet the wonder of the Resurrection caused that fear and loneliness to be turned into joy and thanksgiving. He stayed with them for forty days further instructing them to wait for the coming of the Holy Spirit, the Advocate, to complete the Paschal Mystery.

As many of us head back to Church, we might be faced with some of the same ponderings of the disciples. Yet, we need to put centermost in our thoughts that Jesus is guiding us still. Things are and will be different, but He is still with us.

Emboldened by the Holy Spirit, we continue and yet begin again. These days all of us will need to rely on the power of the Holy Spirit. We need to make use of the Gifts that the Spirit gives us each and every day.

"Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit; and there are varie-ties of services, but the same Lord; and there are varieties of activities, but it is the same God who activates all of them in everyone. To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. (From today's 2nd Rdg., 1 Corinthians 12: 4-7) Challenge Question: The Gifts of the Holy Spirit: Wisdom, Understand-ing, Knowledge, Counsel, Fortitude, Piety, and Fear of the Lord, are the very gifts we need to claim during these difficult days living under a glob-al pandemic. Yet, as today's passage from Corinthians points out, these gifts are not solely for our own personal consolation. Indeed, they are meant to be put at the service of the "common good"; in other words, for the Community. How can I place the gifts of the Holy Spirit at service to others, especially during these difficult times?
