The giving and receiving of spiritual support is the fruit of the women’s gathering which takes place in the prayerful setting of our parish every third Friday evening of the month at 7:30PM in the St. Clare Room. A note from Father Richard:

THE SIXTEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME: For the Sixteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time, the Gospel reading continues to focus on Jesus’ parables. Today we hear three parables that Jesus spoke to the crowds. Once again, Jesus will explain to his disciples the meaning of one of the parables (the parable of the weeds among the wheat) in private, apart from the crowds. “Then the righteous will shine like the sun in the kingdom of their Father.” This beautiful image gives us a glimpse into heaven. Perhaps there really is something spiritual about the nearly universal craving to enjoy a tropical vacation, to escape to warmer climates for the winter. The continual presence of sunshine, the enjoyable experience of one warm day after another may be in fact like a little taste of heaven. In the Gospel, Jesus himself describes eternal bliss using the imagery of sunshine. But warmth has its downside too. When it’s too intense, it can actually be deadly. Think “desert.” Think “the fiery furnace, where there will be wailing and grinding of teeth.” That’s not a trip we want to take. We need to identify and acknowledge any patterns of sin that may have crept into our lives and seek God’s forgiveness, enabling us to be counted among “the children of the kingdom.” Let’s aim for a journey to that kingdom, the one true trip to paradise that lasts for all eternity. FRANCISCAN PROVINCIAL CHAPTER: From August 4 to August 8 the Friars of Our Lady of the Angels Province (Fr. Richard, Fr. Sam, and Fr. Germain belong to this Province) will meet in Buffalo, New York for a Chapter. A Chapter is a gathering of the Friars in which they meet to grow in fraternity, to pray, to reflect on the past few years and to plan the next years. At this Chapter, the Friars of the Province will discuss and plan for the next four years. There will also be new assignments. At this time we do not know what, if any, changes of the Friars will take place at St. Mark. The changes, if any, will be made at the Chapter in August. Since the Friars will be away from the Parish for that week, Fr. Hawkins, retired Pastor from Ascension Parish in Boca, will be covering. He will say the 8:00 AM Mass from Monday thru Friday. There will not be a 5:00 PM Mass during those days. Fr. Hawkins will also cover any funerals and any emergency calls during those days. The Parish Office will be open as usual. “CHURCH”: A “Church” has opened on Seacrest Blvd. between Woolbright and 23nd St. that claims to be “Roman Catholic.” They call themselves Our Lady of Peace Chapel. They are not part of the Diocese of Palm Beach. They are not in union with Pope Francis. They are not part of the Roman Catholic Church. Do not be confused by their name and claims to be a Catholic Church – they are not. RITE OF CHRISTIAN INITIATION FOR ADULTS: We shall be starting our RCIA program in September. If you know of anyone who would like to become Catholic, who needs the sacraments of Holy Eucharistic or Confirmation, please call the Parish Office. “THE POPE APP”: Vatican City, July 10, 2014 -- The Pontifical Council for Social Communications has launched an updated version of “the Pope App” and presented it to Pope Francis. At a viewing to demonstrate its features Monday with the council's president, Archbishop Claudio Celli, and the project coordinator, Thaddeus Jones, the Pope expressed gratitude for all the media services the council makes available. The Holy Father thanked the council for enhancing the Vatican’s presence and participation in the digital world, Vatican Radio reported. According to the council’s president, the app’s new design simplifies access to content and allows people to be in ever closer contact with the Pope, his ministry and his message of God’s love, Released in the iTunes and Google Play stores on July 4th, 'The Pope App 2.0' is free and available in five languages. Powered by News.va, the app features the latest papal news and information as produced by the Vatican’s own media services and can be downloaded on Apple and Android devices. (D.C.L.) DSA: Our 2014 Diocesan Services Appeal is at the half way point. Our goal for this year is $132,500.00. We have raised $116,016.00 (pledged and paid) which leaves us with a balance of $16,484.00. It is very easy to forget about the DSA. If you have not yet contributed to the DSA, there are envelopes in the narthex for this purpose. If every family contributes, we will reach our goal. Thank you for your generosity. PRAYER FOR TRAVELERS: God our Father, you led Abraham and Sarah from their home and guarded them in all of their travels. You guided them safely to the destination you had chosen for them. Be with us now as we travel and guard us every mile of our journey. Help us to be attentive, cautious and concerned about our fellow travelers. Make our highways, skies and seas safe and keep us from all danger. Sacred Heart of Jesus, guide us to our destination and help us to travel prayerfully and carefully. Sacred Heart of Jesus, have mercy on us.

Prayer for Protection from Storms God our Father, Creator of the Universe and Lord over all creation, we humbly stand before you as your children in thanksgiving for your loving care and protection. We ask that you keep us safe from all hurricanes which may threaten us. Protect us from all fear and anxiety of storms and give us an ardent trust and hope in Your love and mercy. You alone have the power to command the sea, the wind and the rain. You alone bring peace, calm, and safety. Father, we thank you in advance, for you are our only Refuge. We ask this through Christ Your Son, Who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen. Mary, Queen of the Apostles and Patroness of our Diocese, pray for us.
