For nearly 50 years the Catholic Church in the United States celebrates National Migration Week to coincide with the Feast of the Epiphany. The theme for this year’s celebration (Jan. 5th-11th), is “Promoting a Church and a World for All,” reflecting the need for Catholics to be inclusive and welcoming to all our brothers and sisters.
Challenge question: What policies can we promote that will affirm the dignity of migrants and better secure the common good? How do we work more fully to promote a Church for all? (United States Conference of Catholic Bishops – National Migration Week 2020 )
Basic Catholicism Classes with Fr. Dan will resume Wed. Jan. 8, 2020 following the
8:00 AM Mass in the John Paul II Room.

Leave a Legacy to
St. Mark Parish Gather information about your assets, including retirement funds, bank accounts and real property.
• Choose the type of bequest you’d like to make. A.) Unrestricted bequest – This is a donation to be used for St. Mark Parish general funds. This donation would be used where most needed. B.) Restricted bequest – This donation specifies how the money is to be used. (This could be restricted to go into an endowment, a specific use, or renovation fund.)
• A bequest can be made in a number of ways: A.) Specific dollar amount B.) Specific assets such as securities, real estate or tangible property.
• Retirement account assets consisting of any benefits remaining in your retirement plan.
• A residuary bequest – St. Mark Parish receives all or a percentage of your estate after all other obligations are met.
• An existing will or trust can be easily amended to include a gift to St. Mark Parish without rewriting the entire document, called a codicil, which adds a new bequest while reaffirming the terms of your will. Your attorney can prepare an amendment to a revocable trust to add St. Mark Parish.
• Meet with your estate planning attorney. An attorney can best advise you.
• All bequests to St. Mark Parish are fully deductible for estate tax purposes.

PRAYER SHAWL MINISTRY Do you enjoy knitting or crocheting? If so, this ministry can use your talents. We make all kinds of items, from shawls and fingerless gloves for shut ins and nursing home residents to baby items for Birthline. All the materials, yarn and needles, are
donated so all we need are your hands. Another way to help us is to donate yarn or needles.
As the projects are completed each one is prayed over by the group. We meet on the 2nd and 4th Thursday of each month from Sept until April in the St. Clare room. You will be doing something useful and you will meet some nice ladies. Contact: Madelline Hanney at (561) 736-8358

Fr. Dan’s FYI - January 5, 2020 Solemnity of the Epiphany of the Lord
On this first Sunday of the New Decade, I would like to wish all a very Happy Epiphany. This Solemnity sometimes called “Little Christmas” is one of the earliest celebrations in the Church calendar. In fact, the Solemnity of Epiphany ranks as third after Easter and Christmas. The word, “epiphany”, comes from the Greek. It means “manifestation”. Symbols like the Star in the East, the visit of the Magi, presentation of the gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh are all suggestions of manifestation. Christ Jesus wants all to know Him. He does not hide His presence from us, but He is right here. In the words of the Vatican Council II Document, Sacrosanctum Concilium, He is present under the Eucharistic Species. He is present as the Word of God and its Proclamation. He is present in the person of the Priest. He is present when the People of God gather in His Name. Recently, an opinion poll was published. It stated that 33% of Catholics do not believe that Christ is essentially present in the Eucharist. They believe that the presence is merely symbolic. Nothing could be further from the truth! It is the belief of the Church that at the Words of Institution, Consecration, the bread and wine become the Body and Blood of Christ. The dogma is called transubstantiation. As Catholics we believe that the only thing that remains of the bread and wine are the appearances, but the substance is changed. Why? Christ said so. Since He said so, it is true. Because He cannot be anything but True. Remember what is presented to Him this day. Gold is a symbol of Christ’s Kingship. Frankincense is a reminder that He is God. Myrrh is a reminder that He will be anointed in His suffering and Death. Set your calendars now. . . Next Sunday, following the 4:00 p.m. Sunday Spanish Mass, we will dismantle the Christmas decorations. If you can help, it would be greatly appreciated. The Weekend of January 18 & 19th – Fr. Jobe Abbass, OFM Conv. will be joining us. He is the Delegate for the Militia of the Immaculate. He will be speaking at all Masses encouraging all of us to become Members of the Militia. Brothers and Sisters, while we have time, let us do good. Fr. Dan
