November Sunday, 4th - Veteran’s Day Concert A presentation of patriotic music to honor our Veteran’s. Proceeds from this concert will help support the special music for the Christmas Eve service.

December Sunday, 2nd – Music in Miami Concert - Celebrate the Holidays with Music in Miami Chamber Players! An enjoyable evening of performance and celebration with classical and holiday tunes! Music in Miami has been performing concerts in Miami for over 10 years and is spreading their wings to share their music with you!

Sunday, 9th – Carols and Bells Handbell Choir Concert Experience the holidays through singing carols and lis-tening to the handbells. The choir will perform a pro-gram of sacred and secular Christmas music.

Sunday, 16th – “Sing Joy to All the World” Lloyd Larson Chancel Choir Christmas Cantata "We gather to tell the story of Emmanuel, God with us! We gather to remember this story, to wait, and watch for Him to come again - even now. Come, Lord Jesus!"

I hope you have made plans to join us on Sunday, November 4 at 3:00 p.m. for our Veterans Day program. This program will start our 2018 – 2019 Fine Arts Series. The Chancel Choir will present a program of patri-otic music honoring our Veterans and we hope there will be something for everyone. The Boynton Beach American Legion Post 164 will present the colors for program. Profit from this event funds the Stradivarius Chamber Ensemble to perform and accompany us at the Christmas Eve Service. Our goal is $2,000.00 so please help us by donating at the concert or in the offering plate. Should you choose to donate on Sunday through the offer-ing plate please mark your envelope Christmas Eve music. It’s difficult to believe but the holidays are just around the corner and we

hope you will mark your calendars for all we have planned in December. December 2nd Music in Miami will

present a program of holiday music to be our Christmas concert season. The Handbell Concert is scheduled

for Sunday, December 9 at 3:00 p.m., the Annual Christmas Cantata on Sunday, December 16 at both

scheduled services and of course Christmas Eve Stradivarius String Ensemble will perform a pre-service

concert beginning at 6:30 p.m. Looking forward to seeing you all there.

January, 2019 13 – The South Florida Flute Orchestra - This group is comprised of the finest professional flutist from South Florida, our members have performed and recorded all over the world and received numerous accolades. The instrumentation of this unique ensemble in-cludes the piccolo, concert flute in C, alto flute in G, bass flute in C and contrabass flute in C.

February Sunday, 10th – The Big Band Era - The Chancel choir will perform a program of music made popular by the big bands of the 30’s and 40’s.

March Sunday, 10th “For Me and My Gal” - Linda Freeze & Tom Bates performing a musical journey of well-known duets.

April Sunday, 14th – “One Holy Lamb” Lari Goss Palm Sunday Easter Cantata - The picture of Jesus Christ as the "Lamb of God" is one of the most compelling in all of scripture. Sweet, gentle and pure, lambs were offered as a sacrifice on the altar before God. And then, God offered his own lamb as a sacrifice for us.

Education continues to be the great equalizer in our society, and for al-most 150 years, having an educated laity and clergy has been important and critical to the future of The United Methodist Church, and to the future of our world. The Black Col-lege Fund is an important tool in achieving that goal. One of the big-gest challenges facing the 11 United Methodist-related historically Black colleges is funding — funding for faculty development, funding to maintain infrastructure, and funding for students who need financial sup-port and scholarships.

To meet that challenge, United Methodists give to the Black College Fund apportionment. In recent years, the percent of support for the BCF has been between 87 percent and 89 percent, even during the economic downturn. To support this important ministry of education, leadership, and spiritual development, however, 100 percent support is critical!

Another challenge is the belief that Black colleges are no longer needed because students can go anywhere they choose to pursue a college de-gree. While that may be true of stu-dents from the best schools with the best scores and no financial con-straints, the UM-related Black col-leges and universities offer a chance to everyone with a dream and a com-mitment to excel – regardless of race, class, gender, or ethnic heritage.

The work these schools do is not just impressive, it is critical because many of these students would fall through the cracks and never earn a college degree though they have the intellec-tual capacity to do so. These schools

Stewardship Sunday

November 4, 2018 We may think that our financial resources are our own. But when we recall that the time, the energy, the good health, and the opportunities for employment behind these dollars are all gifts from God, we see that the funds belong to God too. We are the stewards; God is the owner. One vital aspect of our stewardship is our giving to Christ’s work in the world. We’ve learned that giving is most effective when we commit ourselves to give a definite propor-tion of our income through the church. For many, this proportion is one-tenth, or a tithe. Whatever the amount, we have discovered the joy in giving to God the “first fruits,” an amount “off the top” of our income, not what’s left over at the end of the month. Dinner Church Training– November 3

Church isn't always confined to a set space, week after week, with the same routine. The Sermon on the Mount was out in the open, with plenty of room for anyone who wanted to listen to the mes-sage. There was food, too, more than enough for 5,000 people. The people ate. There was prayer. There was love.

This is the premise behind the growing Fresh Expressions dinner church movement. Pastor Heather Evans states, “This gives us the

ability to bring people in who have never attended church. It allows us to bring people into a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.” (excerpted from: https://

If this is something you find in-triguing, perhaps you would be interested in helping First UMC launch their own Dinner Church. There is a training scheduled for this Saturday, November 3 at the First UMC in East Boca from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm. (Call the

office by Thursday morning if you would like to attend.)

Even if you can’t attend the train-ing meeting, please call the church office or one of the pastors to ex-press your interest. We are going to need people to help with this off-campus ministry that will in-clude food, music and of course a message about the Word of God.

Let us join in ministry to reach those who would otherwise never learn about God’s great love for them!

Young at Heart The annual Men’s Ministry Retreat to the Rainbow River is almost here! The trip begins Thursday, November 8 and ends Sunday, November 11 and is filled with fishing, boating, relaxing, and plenty of amazing food!

This is the perfect way to recon-nect with friends and God and all men 18+ are invited. There’s something for everyone.

“This original play by Todd Caster, directed by Donna Warfield & Teresa Biber-Lomonte is about Doris and Ned who are spending a lovely Christmas Eve with their daughter Sadie. The holiday spirit is soon dampened by the sudden appearance of their estranged son, Junior, dressed in a prison jump-suit. The police arrive shortly, hot on Junior’s trail, but where did Junior run off to? It’s a cat and mouse game and a not-so-typical Christmas for the family – or the police.”

As we enter the holiday season, the preschool is buzzing with activity. Trunk-or-Treat was a great success thanks to all of the volunteers from the church and school. We are now preparing music and lessons for Thanksgiving and Christmas events.

I want to personally thank the ladies that volunteered to join our preschool advisory board and to be administrative helpers.
