Dear First United Methodist Church friends, What a great blessing it is for us all to celebrate moms this month of May. In the midst of all the craziness of the Covid 19 Corona- virus Pandemic moms are keeping busy in so many ways. We encourage you to take a moment to say a special prayer for the mothers, grandmothers, and even great-grandmothers in your life. Let us thank the Lord for all the ways that they express and share His love in our lives. This past month has been a difficult time especially for those who have had family members pass away. During the month of April, we had four people pass away from our church family: Chris Metcalf & Ron Smith (First UMC), Jennifer Duke & Julia Kelly (Faith UMC). Please take some time to reach out with the love of Christ to their families during this sad time. Let us continue to pray for God’s healing and restoration to come to our world as we face this unusual season of uncertainty. Although many of our scheduled ministry activities have been postponed, we will continue to post a weekly online worship service for all to enjoy and experience. We all look forward to the time when we will be able to congregate once again. During this intentional time apart please continue to faithfully give your tithes and offerings. Your wholehearted support helps us to continue to live out our mission of “Making Disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.” We look forward to seeing you very soon! From Pastors Matt & Parker Celebrating Mother’s Day!

Dear First United Methodist Church friends,

What a great blessing it is for us all to celebrate moms this month of May. In the midst of all the craziness of the Covid 19 Corona-virus Pandemic moms are keeping busy in so many ways.

Your wholehearted support helps us to continue to live out our mission of “Making Disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.”

We look forward to seeing you very soon! May the Lord keep you all safe and healthy!

After seven weeks of this “stay at home” order what can we say? At first it was quite easy to just leisurely go through the day but as time passed there was a lack of accomplishment. After all, you cannot sit and watch TV all day. Well, I believe perspective makes or breaks situations such as these. Indeed we are in a time which our day to day lives have changed so much. How we choose to look at these situations says a lot about each of us. Making good use of the time on our hands can be a positive thing. After all, who gets to reboot their life? Well, in these days we do. We get to make the decision on how we will come out of this and how this will affect the new direction we

will live. I agree being at home is difficult but I have tried to find productive ways to use my time. Developing a deeper prayer life has been rewarding and self-satisfying. Spending daily time in prayer gives me hope, a sense of peace and calm. Searching for a deeper understanding of how we have been blessed and using those blessings to serve others. What has impressed me the most is the change in our world environment. Mother Earth has had a

chance to breath without the daily interruptions of the busy lives we choose to live. We also have

been given a chance to refresh ourselves. It is a time to reflect, renew and be thankful for what we

have been given in life. But most of all the time we spend in prayer, bible study and just being thank-

ful is always a good use of our time. We will get through this together.

Blessings! Tom

Notes From

Tom

We remember, O Lord, all those people throughout the years who have made the supreme sacrifice for our country, for liberty, for us. Whenever we breathe the air of freedom or claim the right to justice or enjoy the privilege of worship, fill us with gratitude for those who selflessly gave the last full measure of devotion — their very lives — for our benefit. May these brave men and women now know the joy of eternity and Your presence. And may the families of the fallen receive comfort and peace amid their grief. Help us as we minister to their needs. Through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Thank you so very much for your kindness. I real-ly appreciate the flowers, cards, calls from all of you during my recovery from foot surgery. The most appreciative was all of the medical equip-ment you loaned me to get around while I was healing. I hope we will

soon be back at church. I miss you all. Love, Joan Alt

Visiting with her passenger, Uber driver Latonya Young mentioned her determination to finish college — and a $700 debt that barred her from enrolling in more classes. “Every time I got ready to pay the money, my kids needed something,” she said later. “I said, ‘Okay, I’ll just wait.’” To Young’s great surprise, a few days after that Uber conversation, she learned that her customer, Kevin Esch, had paid her debt; she could reenroll! In response, Young persevered to finish her degree with strong grades. “When he paid the balance, I had to do this for him,” she said of Esch, who attended her graduation. Young’s self-sacrifice for her children and Esch’s self-sacrifice for a stranger both pale, of course, in comparison to Jesus’ sacrifice of his very life to save us. Like Young held back by debt, we were captive to sin until “the Son of Man came … to give his life as a ransom” (Matthew 20:28, ESV). Young did nothing to earn Esch’s gift, and we can do nothing to earn salvation. But as she responded by using the gift to its fullest, we embrace God’s gift by living in thanksgiving and praise, love and service.
