Basic Catholicism with Fr. Dan will not meet Wed. Dec. 25, 2019 or Wed. Jan. 1, 2020. Classes will resume Wed. Jan. 8, 2020.

December 29th: The Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph "The family is thus an agent of pastoral activity through its explicit proclamation of the Gospel and its legacy of varied forms of witness, namely solidarity with the poor, openness to a diversity of people, the protection of creation, moral and material solidarity with other families, including those most in need, commitment to the promotion of the common good and the transformation of unjust social structures, beginning in the territory in which the family lives, through the practice of the corporal and spiritual works of mercy." (Pope Francis, On Love in the Family (Amoris Laetitia), no. 290

Challenge Question: Through its many ministries our parish practices the corporal and spiritual works of mercy. They are listed in our Sunday bulletin. Am I involved in any? Is my family involved? Is there a need to expand the reach of our ministries?

Leave a Legacy to

St. Mark Parish Gather information about your assets, including retirement funds, bank accounts and real property.

• Choose the type of bequest you’d like to make. A.) Unrestricted bequest – This is a donation to be used for St. Mark Parish general funds. This donation would be used where most needed. B.) Restricted bequest – This donation specifies how the money is to be used. (This could be restricted to go into an endowment, a specific use, or renovation fund.)

• A bequest can be made in a number of ways: A.) Specific dollar amount B.) Specific assets such as securities, real estate or tangible property.

• Retirement account assets consisting of any benefits remaining in your retirement plan.

• A residuary bequest – St. Mark Parish receives all or a percentage of your estate after all other obligations are met.

• An existing will or trust can be easily amended to include a gift to St. Mark Parish without rewriting the entire document, called a codicil, which adds a new bequest while reaffirming the terms of your will. Your attorney can prepare an amendment to a revocable trust to add St. Mark Parish.

• Meet with your estate planning attorney. An attorney can best advise you.

• All bequests to St. Mark Parish are fully deductible for estate tax purposes.

Fr. Dan’s FYI - December 29, 2019 Feast of The Holy Family

Today, we celebrate the Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph. The word “family” conjures many images. We have our family of origin. This usually means our blood relatives, parents and siblings, aunts, uncles, cousins and grandparents. Then there is our family of choice. Those are husbands and wives coming together and forming new families or it might be the coming together of individuals who have a similar goal, such as a member of a religious community.

In modern times there are other variations of families as many of us know. There are some families where the “children” are the four footed covered with fur. There are single parent families. The list goes on and on. In the end, a family is home and heart.

Today’s feast is a perfect model of Family. The give and take, the learning experiences, the triumphs and tragedies are melded together in the home at Nazareth. Perhaps all of us can take a lesson and embody in our lives some of the aspects of the Holy Family.

On behalf of Frs. Richard, Germain, Joe and myself From our Family to Yours, we wish to thank all of you for your greetings, gifts and cards during this Holy Christmas Season.

On to other things. . .

You may have noticed the beautiful decorations this year in the Church and Chapel. They were under the direction of our own Fr. Joe. Of special note please visit the Blessed Sacrament Chapel. Fr. Joe decided to decorate a tree using all Eucharistic symbols. He actually made the ornaments, including the bread ornaments. Yes, Virginia, those are actual loaves of bread. But do not take one or try to eat one.

He coated them with clear varnish!!!!

If you eat one, you will be FINISHED. Ho, Ho, Ho!

Now to the more mundane ----

It’s come to my attention, that someone is placing some very anti-Catholic literature on some car windshields in our parking lot during Mass. I have asked the Boynton Beach Police to check out our parking lot. Such anti-Catholic material is not only sinful, it is unlawful. It could be defined as a ‘hate crime.’

If you see anyone placing this literature, please let one of the priests know immediately. I ask that if you notice someone doing this, please provide a description so the police can have something to go on.

Brothers and sisters, while we have me, let us do good. Fr. Dan
