FYI: December 4, 2016 -2nd Sunday of Advent

Normally, at this time of year, many of us are preparing for the wonderful Christmas season. Some are shopping. Others are sending out greeting cards. Many of us are busy decorating for the holidays. There is a feeling of excitement and expectation in the air.

Yet for others, there is no shopping or sending out greeting cards or decorations because for some, they are too poor, elderly or sick to manage. I am very happy that so many parishioners take the time to help out those less fortunate. Among these parishioners are those involved with the CCW and the Back to Basics endeavor. The K of C and their endeavors to raise funding for wheelchairs and contributions to the poor through Habitat for Humanity. I would be remiss if I didn’t mention Sr. Mary Joan and members of the Bereavement Ministry who bring Holy Communion to the sick, visit the homebound and provide holiday meals and communication. WONDERFUL!!!

There is still another way to help. I would like to suggest donations to the Diocesan Service Appeal. Every year, the Diocesan Service Appeal seeks out those in need. This need may be met through Catholic Charities. It may be met through the Office of Vocations, Hispanic Ministry, Youth Department and Faith Formation. Through Birthline/Lifeline, it serves women who are pregnant. It may aide in couples preparing for Marriage or may aide in others trying to rectify a marriage question through counseling or the work of the Diocesan Tribunal.

All of these ministries are vital to the welfare of the Diocese and the people of the Diocese. This past year, St. Mark’s Parish Goal was set at $160,000.00. To date, St. Mark’s Parishioners have contributed $108,824.08 to that goal. I wish to thank all who have contributed to this goal. Your generosity is truly appreciated. Our Parish has benefited very much through the Diocesan Service Appeal. As this FYI goes to press, we need to raise $51,175.92 to meet our goal.

This year instead of sending Uncle George another necktie, make a donation in his name to the Diocesan Service Appeal. Instead of sending your favorite priest another rosary, make a donation in his name to the Diocesan Service Appeal. (By the way, I haven’t finished the first one yet.) Instead of sending that fruitcake to your cousin Phyllis in Cincinnati, help those in need by your contribution to the Diocesan Service Appeal. Remember, a little help can go a long way. Remember we are called to be people of hope. We are called to proclaim the Kingdom is at hand. Let us do so with all the skill at our command. Brothers and sisters, while we have time, let us do good. Fr. Dan

(Yo no he terminado el primero todavía.)
