These plans were tabled at a media briefing held at OR Tambo’s Myezo boardroom last Thursday. He said the district has several sub-regional schemes under con- struction, including the Sidwadwe- ni water supply scheme, which will supply rural areas in the Mhlontlo and Nyandeni municipalities. “Twenty-seven villages in Nyandeni will now get water supply as the regional water supply project to the tune of R100 million is under way. The project will also address ar- eas which had taps installed long ago, but still have no running wa- ter,” he said. It was also revealed that new wa- ter pipes would be installed in Mt- hatha to prevent further pipe bursts. Borehole drilling in Nyandeni is al- so on the cards to provide long term supply of water. OR Tambo Director of Water and Sanitation, Owen Hlazo, urged the community to understand the dy- namics of water outages. “During Winter, our sources and boreholes dry out and the dilapidat- ed infrastructure, such as asbestos pipes, cause bursts and outages,” said Hlazo. THE King of AmaXhosa, his MajestyZwelonke Sigcau, expressed his pain andsorrow caused by seeing his nation losingit’s culture and heritage.

He said all these important, proud chat-tels of the nationwere going down the drainbecause western culture has taken centrestage.

Zwelonke said it seemed as if Blacks hadthrown away their roots and were now fol-lowing a Westernised way of living.

The King was speaking during the gradu-ation ceremony of eight graduates of iNkoloKaNtu (traditional religion) at Idutywa re-cently.

The iNkolo kaNtu graduants are expectedto lead and spread the importance of this re-ligion throughout South Africa.

They completed their iNkolo kaNtu reli-gious studies at the iCamagu institute, leadby Dr Nokuzola Mandende, a cultural ex-pert.

King Sigcau said, “We need to restore ourculture, especially among the youth, be-cause they are the ones who will lead thiscountry in the near future. We are a lost na-tion and if we are like that we are like a lostsheep. So the young people need to considertheir roots, so that we can become a strongnation that is never shaken at the roots.”

He called on woman to play their role inteaching children, as it was the case before, when fatherswerenot athomeandhadgoneto look for jobs away from home. The King

also suggested that virginity testing shouldcome back.

“Girls must get tested as well as boys to re-store our dignity, because this is not new in ourculture. Other nations are laughing at us be-cause we are a lost nation, a nation which isdominated by alcohol and disrespect by youngones. I agree that education is important, butwe need to include our culture,” said Sigcau.

He expressed his gratitude for the initiativethat was started by Dr Mndende, stating thatgovernment needed to support it. KingZwelonke agreed that black culture was op-pressed or never recognized by the colonialgovernment.

IN an effort to heal the wounds of the commu-nity members of Zikhuba Locality who lostloved ones in 2008 as the result of a brutal at-tack, theMbizana Local Municipality held anceremony tomark the beginning of a safer so-ciety.

The event was held in the Zikhuba commu-nity hall in Mbizana on Thursday, December11.

The aim of this event was to honour thosewho died and to commemorate 16 days of ac-tivism against violence against women andchildren.

Friends and relatives of thosewho lost theirlives in the tragic act wept openly as they re-membered the incident.

According to reports, the deceased werefound with their heads cut and the womenwere found without their wombs.

Reverend Vulindlela Mbasa encouragedthem to cry and pour out their pain. “We allknowhow bad the situationwas andwe knowthat memory shall never depart from yourhearts and minds, yet it’s time to let go. Cryall you can and your hearts will be set free,”he said.

Reverend Lennox Mxhelwana also encour-aged the relatives of the deceased to let go ofthe past and move on. “Death is friend to noone. I encourage you to move on, but not toforget your loved ones. It is also time to start

afresh and to forgive those who did this im-moral act,” said Reverend Mxhelwana.

After these words, family members light-ened up a bit, even though emotions of sad-ness were still seen on their faces.

Mbizana Local Municipality Mayor, Coun-cillor Makhaya Twabu, applauded the com-munity forum of Lukholo for their sleeplessnights keeping guard in the area.

“Had it not been for the cooperation of thecommunity forum, wewould have lost the en-tire community. Through you and the SouthAfrican Police Services we are here to re-in-stall the dignity of this place. This will be asafer home to all members of this communi-ty,” he said.

One of the family members who lost fiverelatives in this tragic incident, NomakhayaSonjica, applauded the initiative.

“Losing my family in that manner was noteasy, but today I am happy, because I knowmy family members will find rest whereverthey are,” she said.

Twabu also warned of false traditional sur-geons who used the initiation process tomake money.

MTHATHA is undergoing a constructionboom visible everywhere you go.

This according to Wayne Rubidge, PamGolding Properties area principal in the Mt-hatha area and North Eastern Cape.

This includes the upgrading of airports, thebuilding of roads, bridges and at least threenew shopping malls. “There’s excitement intown, with the new and biggest shopping mallMthatha has ever seen currently underway,”said Rubidge.

Ninety percent of construction work on theBT Ngebs Mall is completed, with the mallscheduled to open its doors in April 2015. Com-prising 58 808sqm, the mall will have 1 975parking bays and will service about 390 000households. It will be the largest shoppingcentre in the Mthatha region, which has a re-tail undersupply of 477 341sqm.

“In 2013 the government earmarked R5 bil-lion to rehabilitate the city’s infrastructureover a 20-year period. Projects include a run-way completed four months ago at the Mt-hatha airport, while a new terminal buildingis underway.

“A two-lane bridge opened in November2014 to ease traffic congestion around the cityand streets are being upgraded with robots. Also included in these projects is the new 60-bed Mthatha Hospital which recentlyopened.”

Mthatha has a variety of large suburbs, with the more affluent being Hillcrest, South-ernwood and Northcrest, where properties

sell for anything between R1 million and R2million, with vacant stands selling betweenR200 000 and R250 000. In more affordable are-as like Ncambedlana and Mbuqu, residentialproperties sell for between R400 000 and R650000.

It is appropriate that Pam Golding Proper-ties has established a presence in Mthatha, asfounder and life president Mrs Pam Goldingwas born and schooled there, in later life be-ing awarded an honorary doctorate from theWalter Sisulu University.

Zuki Khumalo, Pam Golding Properties res-ident agent in Mthatha, said, “We are still ex-periencing huge stock shortages and that hasreally pushed up prices, particularly in popu-lar suburbs such as Northcrest, Ikwezi andMbuqe Extension. However, from 2015 on-wards this will be alleviated to some extentwith a number of developments focusing onmiddle-income houses and gap housesplanned and to be approved.”

“Currently, Mthatha is landlocked in termsof housing developments as a result of theperi-urban areas also termed ‘rurban’ areasalong the urban fringe. These transitional ar-eas, between rural and urban, are the con-straints for new developments as the city hasbeen boxed in by the peri-urban settlements. The city’s economy is substantial as there areat least 15 towns whose economy is linked tothat of Mthatha.

“The city supplies goods and services totowns like Flagstaff, Mvezo and Libode, where facilities that Mthatha offers are notavailable, making Mthatha the key economichub in the region.”

She said at present Mthatha is abuzz witha couple of new full title developments underway. One developer who has made his pres-ence known in the city has completed 49 hous-ing units which were quickly sold out in a de-velopment called ‘The Palms’ in the suburbof Ncambedlana.

“This development catered for middle-earn-ers at prices ranging from R489 000 for a 40sqmunit, R545 000 for 50sqm and R598 000 for a62sqm unit. Another new housing develop-ment in Ncambedlana, ‘Fernhill’ - comprising88 units and catering for the medium incomemarket, which was also launched in 2013, isabout to commence construction, with servic-es already being installed.”

“For investors there is a great deal of oppor-tunity in Mthatha and surrounds becausewithin the current property market, notmany in the lower LSM groups can afford tobuy, making small apartments the ideal in-vestment to cater for this market. The rentaldemand is also substantial in this sector, withentry level rentals houses with two or threebedrooms achieving rentals in excess of R4500per month. Across the Mthatha property mar-ket in general there is a huge demand for rent-al properties. This has resulted in the escala-tion of rental prices with houses that wouldnormally be rented out for R8000, fetching R17000 per month,” said Khumalo.

Roads from Mthatha lead to the Wild Coastwith Port St Johns being 90 km away.

One of the prime properties being marketedby Pam Golding Poperties in the area is anexceptional, fully-furnished establishment lo-cated on 2.3ha of freehold, full title land.

Situated about 12km from Port St Johns and90km from Mthatha Airport, the property issituated on a hill with spectacular, scenicviews of the Umzimvubu River and the sur-rounding countryside.

The lodge has a main house with three bed-rooms and 2.5 bathrooms, six chalet en suiterooms and two further rooms with a sharedbathroom. In total the lodge sleeps 22 peoplein the 11 rooms. Water for the resort is froma fountain gravity fed to the lodge. Priced atR4.85 million through Pam Golding Proper-ties, the property has substantial tourism po-tential due to its prime, elevated position justabove the main road entering Port St Johns.

. Established in 1883, Mthatha, the capitalof the former Transkei, is a hive of bustlingactivity and recognised as the leading city ofthe area. It has a population of around 500 000people

Situated on the N2, almost midway betweenDurban and East London, this colourful andlively city is the gateway to the area and theworld-famous Wild Coast, with regular flightsto and from Johannesburg,.

In Mthatha the Walter Sisulu University forTechnology and Science attracts many up andcoming young students in a region which washome to many leading South African states-men such as Nelson Mandela and Walter Sisu-lu, and which is renowned for the NelsonMandela Museum - a domed building whichwas the seat of the former Transkei’s Parlia-ment.

The town still has some beautiful colonialbuildings, such as the sandstone town hallwith its prominent clock tower.

The RED Hub programme is government’skey rural development approach driven bytheEasternCapeRuralDevelopmentAgency, which supports local co-operatives with ac-cess to finance, mechanisation and selling ofproduce to retail markets for the benefit of all

members of co-operatives.MEC Qoboshiyane said high unemploy-

ment and poverty levels in theAlfredNzoDis-trict result in low affordability levels, whichmanifest in low levels of investment, develop-ment, service delivery and under utilizationof development opportunities.“There is an urgent need formajor new pri-

vate sector investments to create jobs and im-prove livelihoods in the area. The establish-ment of the RED Hub will help eradicate pov-erty and stimulate the local economicdevelopment, as well as the investmentdrive.”“With the rich soil like this and people who

love seedlings, I couldn’t resist introducingthe RED hub. Period for hunger and poverty

is now gone; a new era of better life has justbegan.Nowgo and cultivate your father’s gar-dens to generate income,” said Qoboshiyane. The RED hub will cover six wards which

constitute 11 villages, and over R53.5 millionhas been allocated for the Mbizana RED hub, which will be spent on primary production, equipment, establishment of grain silos andmilling, Trading store and other infrastruc-ture such as fencing, establishment of feedersatellite, training of beneficiaries, stakehold-er management and social facilitation.Amongst the things the Hub will focus on

is the value addition of grain which encom-passes primary grain production on 1000 hec-tares, developmechanization units andwork-shop with tractors, harvesters and imple-

ments, safe grain storage by establishing siloswith combine storage capacity of 2000 tons, processing of grain through the establish-ment ofmilling plantwith a three-hour capac-ity, branding and marketing of processedproducts to local and externalmarkets and es-tablishment of feedlot at a later stage.Qoboshiyane also donated eight tractors as

well as implements. He said the departmentwould support the RED Hub for five years.Ward 31 Councillor Thokozani Faku said

words alone could never explain how gratefulthe community is. “It is without doubt thatwe appreciate this initiative and promise thatthere will be no fights concerning these trac-tors and implements, as we are united now,we shall unite till the very end.”

and don’t overdo things because they wouldhit back. On top of it all, please save those bo-nuses of the year end as January is still goingto need more money.Asifuni ke kuthi kuqala unyaka umntu abe

Oh!! It’s astonishing

In our tiny agewe used to hear about doomsday and I (Gesh) even asked God to give melife until I get older, so that I can taste the hon-ey of being old. Ja, I’m here now.But it seems as if the doom is happening

right now. We heard that in Rosedale in UTA(Mthatha), there is an old ladywhokidnappedand kept a disabledman in custody as her sexslave. The report revealed that the woman isa well-known woman in church and she ismarried. She kept the man for the whole weekend

locked inside the room.Who say those are notthe practices of doom?Khazi igossip team izit-hatha phi ezi ndaba. Ungasibuzi funda udabaolu. Fortunately, we had an opportunity tospeak to the guy, who said really he was therefor work.He said the oldmumusually left him for few

hours and returned demanding sex. “Aka-fresh umntaka bhuti.” My brother’s son is sofresh. Zintoni ezo? Asike siniyeke kuba inda-ba anizazi nibe nisithi xa sinixelela zonasithetha izinto zemiqala yethu.Ngoku we will meet you dear readers in

MAMAMIABROUGHTPEACE IN

MYBROKENUPFAMILYFor many years I suffered a lot in my marriage. I had daily fights with my husband and had no peace becauseof my jealous family, friends and my in-laws also hated me. I felt betrayed and heartbroken by my own people.

Sleepless nights and stress nearly killed me. I tried many healers, but they all failed to help me, until I heardabout Mama Mia on a spiritual on the radio. With the only R100 I had in life, Mama Mia took my fortunereadings and surprised me by telling me accurately about my husbands hidden family secrets. She then madespecial prayers and gave me powerful herbal Indian Holy Water for cleansing and a special oil. Within just afew days a miracle happened: all my enemies and family in-laws who hated me came back to make peacewith. After suffering 20 painful years, today we are the happiest couple and I am also grateful because ofMama Mia.

Her special prayers of blessings has made me became a successful business lady.

LUCKY Mthatha resident Mkhuseli Xaba issmiling after being given a Mercedes-Benzcar for Christmas.

Hundreds of people joined in the excite-ment at BOSS Gaming Bingo outlets acrossthe province over the weekend as a total ofthree lucky winners celebrated Christmasearly by driving away in a Mercedes Benz.

Eastern Cape empowerment companyBOSS Gaming operates Bingo Royale ClearyPark, Bingo Royale East London CBD andRitz Gaming and Entertainment in Mthatha.

The crowds cheered when Sesuthu Mdudu-ma drove away in a Merc from Bingo RoyaleEast London CBD, Mkhuseli Xaba from RitzGaming and Entertainment in Mthatha, andDonavan Hendriks from Bingo Royale ClearyPark.

It was the first time Mercedes-Benz cars hadbeen given away at the East London and PortElizabeth Bingo Royale venues in the compa-ny’s “Win a Merc” competition.

There was great excitement whenever oneof the six lucky ticket holders for the finaldraw were identified and made their way tothe stage.

As part of the fun thousands of rand were

also given away to lucky members of the audi-ence through Money Showers, which regular-ly forms part of the entertainment at the ven-ue.

“We want all our guests to experience theirperfect moment,” says Bingo Royale directorYolande Manuel.

“It’s our motto and one we as a group tryand achieve on a daily basis!”

More excitement was added to the action asthe cars have already been replaced by anoth-er three Mercedes Benz cars ready for thenext draw.

“With another Bingo Royale due to open inJeffreys Bay in the first quarter of the new

year, an additional Mercedes will find its wayto yet another winner in March.

“We have already selected the first Merc tobe given away at Bingo Royale Jeffreys Bay,”says Manuel.

The festivities, fuelled by the day’s eventsand a large share of Christmas cheer carriedthrough well into the night, “rounding off aspectacular first for the Boss Gaming and en-tertainment groups branches in the EasternCape,” she adds.

In addition to Bingo there is live musicthree times a week in the Mthatha venue, aswell as a dining facility serving tasty mealsand snacks,” says Manuel.

The height and relatively long wheelbase com-bines to create a surprising roomy interior space, not to mention bigger than expected boot space. The rear bench seat offers a 60/40 split.

The high roof gives the impression of space –I have climbed into SUV’s where I felt morecramped and close to the roof than in the Splash. It has ample legroom and headroom to provideseatingfor fiveadultoccupants.Thehighrooflineallows the seating positions to be raised for goodall-round visibility.

The layout of the controls and instruments isuser-friendly. The large, white-faced analoguespeedometer is positioned directly ahead of thedriver. Its digital info display is easy to read andindicatesrange,averagefuelconsumptionandin-stant fuel consumption.

The Splash offers a variety of storage options.Front door binnacles with integrated bottle hold-ers, front and rear cup holders, and seatbackpockets are standard.

In the case of the GL models, a separate revcounter adds a sporty element.

I liked the high-mounted gear shift leverwhich is within easy reach. A three-spokesteering wheel is standard, and the GL ver-sion is equipped with steering wheel-mount-ed audio system controls.

SpecificationsThe Suzuki Splash model range consists of

three models, all powered by the same 1,2i petrolengine, but with a choice of two transmissionsand two specification levels - the basic GA andhigher spec GL (which is offered with a choice of5-speed manual or 4-speed auto).

Even the most affordable model in the range, the 1.2 GA offers an impressive list of standard

features and is equipped with power steering, air-con and central locking. All specifications havedual airbags and anti-lock brakes.

In addition the GL models have fog-lights, sepa-raterevcounter,a four-speakerCD/audiosystemwith auxiliary and USB inputs, as well as audiocontrols on the tilt-adjustable three-spoke steer-ing wheel, keyless entry and electric windows.

RideThe second most impressive feature, after the
