  3. 3. Early Life..Kiran Bedi is an Indian social activist and a retired Indian Police Service (IPS)officer. Bedi joined the police service in 1972 and became the first womanofficer in the IPS.Born : June 9, 1949 .From : Amritsar, Punjab, India.Education : BA degree by the Government College for Women, Amritsar Masters degree in Political Science from Punjab University, Chandigarh Bachelor of Laws in 1988 from Faculty of Law, University of Delhi. Ph.D. in Social Sciences from the Department of Social Sciences, IIT, Delhi onDrug Abuse and Domestic Violence.
  4. 4. Career She began her career as a Lecturer in Political Science(197072) at Khalsa College for Women, Amritsar. In July1972, she joined the Indian Police Service. She served in a number of tough assignments rangingfrom New Delhi traffic postings. Deputy Inspector General of Police in Mizoram. Advisor to the Lieutenant Governor of Chandigarh. Director General of Narcotics Control Bureau, to aUnited Nations delegation, where she became theCivilian Police Advisor in United Nations peacekeepingoperations. She was last appointed as Director General ofIndia's Bureau of Police Research and Development. In 2014, she has joined parliament by offering herself asCM candidate of BJP.
