Ignorance is Bliss

by Mike Logue the Mekanik

My late brother Chris was a very accom-plished restorer with one cover of HotRod magazine to his credit as well as thecenterfold in Street Rod magazine, amongmany other awards. When he learned Iwas going to a car show at the Budweiserplant, he told me to take some pictures tohelp him in establishing proper gap sizesfor when we started the body work onthe B. I mentioned that concept to theguys on the British Car Forum and theresponse, aside from a boatload of guf-faws was use anything between an 1/8"and the width of a Popsicle stick. Whichone you use pretty much depends on whatday of the week certain panels will befitted. As the picture shows, my brotherhad good reason to ask as the previousowner apparently hung the door while thebody was supported on the frame. As aresult, when the frame was taken off thejacks, the door was way off. Unfortu-nately, Chris couldn’t make it to help mewith the body work and as a result thedoor alignment may stay the way it is.But, it works OK.

As for the wiring picture, I guess the moralis that as long as you label EVERY-THING you will succeed.

Prime Minister’sMissive

The word is definitely out. “If ya wannahave a good time, go to BCNH Meetingson the 1st Monday of each month at theWeathervane.”

Last month in this space I commented that, when we adjourned the September meet-ing, nobody left. Well, for the OctoberMeeting, everybody came. When mostcar clubs seem to be losing membership,BCNH is growing. We now have 177Members “on the books” with four newmembers in September and at least 25%of them were at the October meeting. For a club that has no attendance require-ment, that is a tremendous turnout, by anystandard.

And the reason is clear, our meetings arenot “business meeting”, they’re “meet-ings.” Members come, not because theyhave to, but because they want to. Infact, there are times when the club offic-ers (like your esteemed Prime Minister)have some difficulty in being heard abovethe ebullient voices of the members en-gaged in multiple, simultaneous conver-sations. It’s no wonder the Weathervaneputs us in a separate room. This is not aquiet group.

But we’re not just a social group. I thinkall members can be proud of the fact thatone of the agenda items at that meetingwas the presentation of a $7,500 check

to the High Hopes Foundation of NewHampshire. Kudos to all who worked sohard to make our Show of Dreams oneof the premier car shows in New England.

And our support for “others” is in addi-tion to our support for ourselves. At leastsome of those “multiple simultaneous con-versations” include the exchange of“technical tips” and the setting up of“home visits” where one member visitsanother to troubleshoot some particularlythorny mechanical or, (dare I say it) elec-trical problem. Within our Membershipwe have some extremely knowledgeableand experienced people. The old sayingis certainly true. “The one who knowswhat s/he is doing makes fixing it lookeasy. The one who doesn’t know whats/he is doing often just makes it worse.”If you need help you’ll find it here.

So do come. The fact that it’s time to putour cars away for the winter doesn’t meanwe have to put ourselves away for thewinter. In fact, I am convinced that it isthe monthly meetings that make this groupso cohesive. Without them, we wouldlose touch over the winter and that can’tbe a good thing.

And don’t forget the upcoming HolidayCheers Party on December 4, the firstSunday in December. We have been in-vited back to the Bayberry Vintage AutoCollection in Hampton with dinner at theBonta Restaurant afterward. Those ofyou who attended last year know what awonderful time we had. Those of youwho missed it, missed it. Don’t let thathappen again!

WUNN FINAL HOLEFOR HOLIN

by Ginger Christiansen

What was to be Porus Pines CountryClub’s Match of the Century ended intragedy today as legendary Holin Wunndied suddenly at the 18th hole. In a Battleof the Sexes, Wunn’s opponent was noneother than women’s regional champ,Birdie Bigelow. Wunn made no secret ofhis disdain for women on the golf circuit. His opinion was that they play for a di-version only after their “womanly duties”were completed at home. “Women haveno business on the course since their skillscan’t possibly be equal to a men’s superi-ority in mental calculations, strength andstamina. They just clutter up the area with

their hen clucking and skimpy attire.”Could it be that he felt threatened bywomen and their growing accomplish-ments in the sports world?

It’s true that Holin Wunn died of poison-ing. After examining the body a scratchwas found on Wunn’s ankle and his bloodtested positive for strychnine. MaconGreen, the grounds keeper, used strych-

nine-laced barley to take care of the de-structive gophers. The question is, whohated Wunn enough to kill him?

Sunday, September 25, 2011, eighteen in-vestigators questioned suspects at fourdifferent golf courses. The first interro-gation took place at Kingston Fairwaysin Kingston, New Hampshire. Who stoodto gain? Was it Sandy Trapini, presidentof Porus Pines Country Club, who blamedWunn for her husband’s untimely death?Moose Trapini was club champion butWunn wanted that title and now he has it.And what about Birdie Bigelow, the cur-rent Women’s Champion? Why were theGerman brothers wooing her? They bothwanted her to win against Wunn for theirrespective sports gear companies, whichwas quite a lucrative deal for Birdie. AtSagamore Golf Course in North Hamp-ton more questions were asked. Bigelow’scaddie, Carrie Bagshot was no friend ofthat womanizer Wunn. Could it be thatshe had a love/hate relationship withHolin? What was her connection withNemo Brandt? Greens keeper MaconGreen was seeing red over Wunn’s nega-tive comments about Porus Pines’ up-keep. After all, Green was a finalist forGreens Keeper of the Year, according to“Tee It Up” magazine. It wasn’t his faultthe course was plagued by gophers. Hisonly recourse was strychnine and he did

take the precaution to mark off danger-ous areas. Evidence began to grow atPease Golf Course in Portsmouth. De-tectives felt that Wunn should have knownbetter than to mistreat and stiff his caddyToten Klubs. Klubs thought he made agood choice in caddying for Wunn, butfor free? Yes, Klubbs had not been paidfor the last two tournaments that he cad-

died. Words were said and Klubs wantedout but Wunn threatened to blackball him.Another tightwad was Nemo Brandt,CEO of Sadasi Sports Gear. Wunn’sSadasi contract was due for renewal butwhy did Brandt want to promote Birdietoo? Rumor has it that he did not payBagshot & Associates for designing thefamous Sadasi Sheesh logo because theirdaughter Carrie refused his advances. Itwas the morning of this famous matchthat Wunn informed Brandt that he wasgoing to sign on with Keenie Sports in-stead. Keenie Sports is Nemo’s brother’ssports company. But the biggest insult ofall was that Wunn decided not to wearSadasi’s Sports Gear with the HW insig-nia. Finally, in Greenland, at the Break-fast Hill Golf Club , evidence was pre-sented and motives were discussed. Sadly, the perpetrator was acquitted for lack ofevidence. Wunn was no one’s favoritegolfer. During the match, Wunn sneeredat his caddie and ignored his advice onplaying the back nine. Klubs, always ob-servant, noticed that Brandt switchedumbrellas with Wunn. Since Wunn hadrefused to wear the Sadasi Sheesh, Brandt figured that the Sheesh umbrella wouldpromote his company. Thereupon, Klubsdipped the tip of that umbrella into a poi-son filled gopher hole and “accidentally”scratched Wunn. In full view of a packed

Lobsta' Tour

by Norma Karle

““On September 25th, a group of BCNH

members invaded the New England Tri-umph Lobsta’ tour. We met at the park-ing lot at Stonewall Kitchen in York atnoon. By the time we were ready to leavethere were about twenty-five British Carsin line along with three non-British cars.Several people from New Jersey were inMaine on vacation and decided to join thetour as well.

“We headed out from Stonewall Kitchenand drove closer to the coast up alongRoute 1A to the Cape Neddick light wherewe took the loop through the parking lot.We then continued on to York Beach. From there, we went past Perkins Coveto Ogunquit. It was a perfect, warm daywith sunny blue skies. The drive took usnorth through Kennebunkport past theBush compound. After that we drove onto Cape Porpoise and out onto Biddeford
