2013 Show of Dreams

by Linda dos Santos

The other day, I was reading a newslet-ter that was published by Give Kids theWorld. Their title, “Miracles and Memo-ries”, caught my eye and my heart. Thetitle made me smile and made me remem-ber the wonderful memories of when myson, Jon-Michael, had his wish grantedthrough High Hopes in 1990. The titlereminded me what the “Show of Dreams”is all about! The BCNH “Show ofDreams” is about the “Miracles” of help-ing to grant wishes for the seriously andchronically ill children of New Hampshirethrough High Hopes.

It is about the “Memories” that we allgain. From the memories that last a life-time for each special child that has his orher wish granted as well as their familyand friends that share their joy, to thewonderful memories of a group of peoplefrom the BCNH car club and their spon-sors who work extremely hard each yearto make this happen as they make theirown memories working side by side.

Today we will leave the Show of Dreamswith wonderful memories and pictures ofsome of the most beautiful British cars inthe area. The prizewinners should beproud of themselves and their cars as theydrive away with their trophies! Every carentry, volunteer, exhibitor, sponsor, ven-dor, BCNH member, and guest who washere as well as the behind the scenepeople who could not make it today haveadded to the “Miracles and Memories”of the day with their time and donations.

We as a club would like to thank all oursponsors, vendors, and exhibitors whohelped to make the Show of Dreams whatit is. Without your dedication, commit-ment, and donations we would never beable to accomplish what we do each year.Thank you for making us shine.

This was the 17th annual BCNH “Showof Dreams”. During those 17 amazingyears, we as a club have raised enoughmoney to grant approximately 20-25wishes. Some of the wishes include: a

Segway, trips to Disney World, shoppingtrips, Red Sox tickets, Celtic tickets, aswimming pool, a wheelchair ramp vanso the family can travel together, and somuch more.

I personally would like to thank the Showof Dreams Committee for the work theydo all year behind the scenes. They meetonce a month to brainstorm ideas to keepthis event going. And even though theysay that we are an “eating and drinking”club and that they are only in it for the“food and drinks”, the things that theyaccomplish is amazing. Their commitmentand dedication is endless and shinesthrough everything they do. Thank you.

One of my first stops of the day was atthe DJ station. DJ Jim George has beenwith the Show of Dreams “Djing” for usfor as long as he can remember. Hejumped on the band wagon through someof our members and has been setting the“beat” of the day with his music and an-nouncements. He is also the favoritearound the raffle number calling time.

Raffles! Raffles! Did I hear somebodysay “Raffles”? The donations at this tablealways amaze me with everybody’s gen-erosity. This table is one of everybody’sfavorite as they seek out all the treasuresthat they want to win. Some of this year’sraffle prizes were: a meade tasting tourat the Moonlight Meadery, a wine tastingtour at Zorvino’s (definitely a favoriteamong club members), a gift certificatefrom the Attitash Grand Summit Resortfor a two night stay for two includingbreakfast, a car trunk organizer filled withautomotive treasures, old uncirculated coinsets, magazine subscriptions, fleece pull-overs, tools, a weed whacker and so muchmore. And let us not forget the 50:50raffle. Thank you all for your generousdonations. And special thanks to Wayne& Maggie Bolen who collect and orga-nize this booth each year. You do a tre-mendous job and it is greatly appreciated.Thank you.

I continued on my journey around thefield. I passed by the antique and penny-farthing bicycles that are owned by BobHarton. My SOD experience each yearisn’t complete without watching these

wonderful bicycles being peddled aroundthe field.

I stopped to visit the “Good News Ga-rage” tent that was sporting a beautifulJaguar XJ6 that they will be auctioningoff this fall. Check out their website forthis exciting auction. Just imagine! Youcould be driving this prize possession tothe show next year.

I passed by the Brit Bits tent and the Flagsover Winnipesaukee. I was so excited tosee them here again this year. I finallyreach my next destination: the “Swap”tent where I get to unload some “trea-sures” of car parts that Wade found inthe garage. It will also give me an excuseto browse around looking for parts forGerry’s 1959 MGA. What a wonderfulidea that Wil Bernstein had. This tent wasstarted last year and rumor has it that thisyear it is working out so much better. Sothis fall when you all are cleaning out yourgarages to make room to store your carsfor the winter and don’t know what to dowith your spare parts. Put them aside andhold onto them for next year’s SOD tosee if they can become someone else’streasure.

I didn’t have to go far to find my owntreasure of the day. My personal favoritefind was found at the tent sporting thename “Northern Possession Art GlassStudio”. Here I found a checker set madeby Kris Quarton where the checkerswere black and white glass stones.

I continued on and enjoyed the jewelry atthe “Aquarius Girl Jewelry” tent. I en-joyed seeing the “C&G Woodcraft” tent. And I “drooled” over the “Jaguar ofExeter” tent. It is so wonderful to see allthese vendors out sharing the day withhelping us supporting the “Show ofDreams”.

Now for my favorite part, I like to standat one edge of the field as my eyes scanover all the cars that came today. It isamazing and I stand in awe of the beautyof all the British cars that I see in front ofme. My heart races in anticipation of go-ing to find out about their history and totalk to the people who own them. So fess

We have added 16 members in the pastmonth – and the past month’s activitieshave demonstrated why you join and whyyou stay.

You will see write-ups on other pages ofthis issue, but let me recap to show justwhat an active membership we have.

· As I write this, it was barely threeweeks ago that we held our 17th AnnualShow of Dreams.

o We had 130 cars “in the field” (withonly one trailered in - and PinchPolenchar only trailers because itwould take all day to get to Wolfeboroat what was considered to be the zippyspeed of 45mph back in 1954 whenthe Triumph 2000 “Renown” wasbuilt.)

§ We are a “Drivers Club” – andthis, along with our other activities, proves it.

o Through your efforts, we will be ableto present NH High Hopes with acheck for $7,500 this year.

· The day after the Show of DreamsPinch trailered the Renown down to theLarz Anderson Museum and I joined himthere with my TR-2000 Roadster. Wewere the only two cars on the field thatwere not the typical TR2/TR3/TR4/TR6/TR250/TR7/TR8 “sports cars”that everyone associates with Triumph– as a result, there was a “soccer

swarm” around our cars all day.

· Two weeks ago several of us went tothe NH Motor Speedway (Loudon) towatch our own Rod Folia race in theVintage Car Race Weekend there. Onegroup went on Saturday and a secondgroup on Sunday.

o As a Club, we have not “paid muchattention” to Rod’s racing – and I thinkthat has been our mistake. Rod puton one h**l of a show with his littleMazda Rotary (Wankel) powered carcoming in 1st (after starting in 5th spot)ahead of some very stiff V-8 poweredcompetition.

§ Once he finally passed them, hecrossed the finish line about ten carlengths ahead of the 2nd Place car –which shows how much they hadbeen holding him back when he wastrapped behind them.

· The very next day, about a dozen ofus went in to Portsmouth to supportClub Member Sam Smith (of BritBits) at the show he put on at the Clip-per Home Retirement Complex. Samhas supported the Show of Dreams foryears and it was our turn to support him. There were almost three times as manycars there this year than last year and itreally was a very pleasant show.

· Last Sunday we had our 2ND AnnualBeach Party (Thank you JudyPevine) at the Great Island Commonin Newcastle. Judy got there early to“claim” a gorgeous spot just a couple ofhundred feet back from the water’s

Saturday Breakfast DriveCovered Bridges Tour

August 17 – A record 27 cars showed upfor breakfast in Milford. The weather wasperfect. It was a good thing that Milfordhad several places for breakfast as therewere so many of us. After breakfast weall met in the Rite Aid parking lot andkicked off the drive at 9 am. Great job oflaying out the route by Norma Karle. Weare so fortunate to have so many historiccovered bridges in our state. I especiallylike the sign on the Bement bridge thatsaid it was built in 1854 at a cost of $500.

What Have I BeenMissing All These

Years?by Bob Mitchell

I have been a member of BCNH for about5 or 6 years now. Over that time I havebeen vaguely aware that Club MemberRod Folia still (at age 60+) actively cam-paigns a Rotary Engine (Wankel) Pow-ered Mazda race car in sports car rac-ing. Sports Car Club of America (SCCA)racing I assumed, but didn’t really payenough attention to know. I’m guessingthat not many other BCNH Membershave paid much attention either, at leastnot recently, because I’ve never heard ofanyone (except Norma) going to the racesto watch him. I’m now convinced that, atleast for me, that has been an oversight.

When I learned that Rod would be racingright in our backyard, at the NH MotorSpeedway in Loudon, for the VintageRace and Vintage Car Show Weekendon Aug 2, 3 & 4, I decided to go. I en-tered the TR-2000 Roadster in the Vin-

tage Car Show on Saturday, but I went towatch Rod race and I’m glad I did.

Two items of background to bear in mindhere. This weekend was specifically Vin-tage Racing. That means that (1) the carsall had to be equipped with “vintage” tires, with treads and, I believe, the bias-plyconstruction that was the technology ofthe period. Rod typically uses radial tiresthat have no tread so there is more “rub-ber on the road” so this change takessome getting used to and definitely affectshandling, particularly in the corners. And(2), since the “vintage” cars do not haveall of the latest in modern race safetyequipment, maintaining driver safety is ofparamount importance. NO contact ispermitted on the track and if any car isobserved even touching another car dur-ing the race, the driver is immediately“black flagged” and asked to leave thetrack. This means, of course, that anypassing has to be done with a great dealof care. With those two items in mind,Rod’s performance on Saturday was trulyamazing – at least to me.

Most cars had been there on Friday for“Time Trials” and the starting position for

Rod’s first race of the day was based onthose time trials with the fastest cars atthe front and the slowest at the back. ButRod hadn’t been there on Friday (workdid you say) so for the first race of theday he started next to last, the 24th car ina field of 25. 15 minutes later, Rod fin-ished in 5th place behind a V-8 Camaro;a V-8 64/65 vintage Corvette; a Porsche911 and at Porsche 914. Now keep inmind that this was a 10 lap race. Thatmeans that Rod passed (on average) twocars every lap for 10 laps. And that with“skinny” tires and being very careful notto make any contact. Pretty impressive!

I asked Rod after the race if the driver ofthe 64/65 Corvette wasn’t a little embar-rassed that his independent suspension

“Getting Lost” Isn’tAlways a Bad Thing

by Bob Mitchell

Sometimes you really should believe whatthe “Idiot Lights” tell you.

The Covered Bridge Drive was the 4thor 5th “outing “ of the season for the TR-2000 Roadster, a car that I bought lastfall and then “worked on” over the win-ter. On outings 1; 2; 3; and 4 I had “no-ticed” that the Idiot Light that indicatesthat the generator is not generating was“on” – but then you know you can nevertrust “Idiot Lights.” The engine alwaysturned over easily and started right up soI “assumed” (ass-u-me) that the idiot lightwas just wrong.

Well, now I’m not so sure. I think we mayhave a case of “Big Battery/Small En-gine Syndrome.” A BIG battery has lotsof juice, and a small engine doesn’t needmuch to start – and, as long as you don’thave any lights on, it really takes almostnothing to keep the engine running oncestarted. The TR-2000 doesn’t even havean electric fuel pump so the only “draw”is the ignition system – and, of course, the turn signals when you fail to turn themback off after a turn.

Anyway, by the time we got started onthe Covered Bridge Drive the Roadsterstarted to exhibit “peculiarities” when

starting and running. Eventually those“peculiarities” turned into not starting andrunning.

Fortunately, although I didn’t really be-lieve the Idiot Light, I had thrown one ofthe “Jump Boxes” in for the ride as a pre-caution. And it’s a good thing because bythe time we got to the Dalton Bridge inWarner, the Roadster just wouldn’t startwithout “a little help.” Luckily, “a littlehelp” was all it really needed and, oncestarted, it ran just fine on its own.

But by the time I got it started – and putthe jump box back in the trunk – at theDalton Bridge, most of the rest of the fleethad gotten out of sight. Dave and JaneCorbett in their MGB-GT and Dianneand Joe Paquette in the “Twin” whiteJag XJ Sedans stayed back to be sure Iwasn’t left behind, but none of us reallyknew the route we were supposed to befollowing. So, we took off down 103 withDave & Jane in the lead, but then “missedthe turn” at Davisville and ended up onRoute 127 north (Battle Road) insteadof 127 south.

We had a lovely ride, but after “playingcatch-up” for several miles it becameobvious that there wasn’t anyone aheadof us to catch. But it was indeed a lovelyride so we just went along at our ownpace for a while and then, just about thetime we decided to pull off at the “nextconvenient stopping place” to admit thatwe were hopelessly lost and might as wellgo home – what to our surprise did wefind but a parking lot full of LBCs and abunch of BCNH Members milling aroundthem!

All roads lead to………

It was a wonderful day, and yes, I did putthe Roadster on the battery charger overnight when I got home. Maybe one ofthese days I may even see what’s hap-pening with the generator.

Corvette couldn’t beat the solid rear-axleCamaro and Rod said, “Nobody is em-barrassed by losing to that Camaro. That’s a fast car.” But it’s not that fast.Read on.

So, that was the morning race. For theafternoon race, the cars were lined up inthe order that they placed in the morningrace. That meant that Rod now started5th, behind the Camaro, the Corvette andthe two Porsches. Well, I was watchingat Turn 3, a hairpin to the right. By thetime Rod got there, he was in 4th withone Porsche left in front of him and theother now behind. It took him three orfour more laps to sneak around the otherPorsche, and then it was the V-8 Camaro, the V-8 Corvette and then Rod with hisrotary engine that is about the size of adecent watermelon. But, his car weight500 to 1,000 pounds less than the othertwo and that lets him corner at speedsthat they cannot.

The most exciting few seconds of the raceoccurred in Turn 3, “my” turn. By the timeRod had gotten past the two Porsches theleaders (the Camaro and the Corvette)were starting to lap the slowest cars andRod was right on their heels. By pure co-incidence both the Corvette and Rod ap-proached Turn 3 just as a much slower‘79/’80 vintage Corvette was also enter-ing the turn. The 2nd place Corvette wentto the outside to pass, slowing to avoidcontact, while Rod, with his lighter car, dove to the inside. By the time they wereactually “in” the turn, Rod was ahead ofboth of them and now in the number 2position.

One lap later he “went inside” the Camaroon the same Turn 3 and Rod was nowNumber 1.

In the last lap of the race, with the Camarono longer “in his way” when he got to theturns, Rod opened a commanding 10 carlength lead by the time he “took the check-ered flag” and the race was over.

Boy am I glad I was there to see it!

I didn’t go back on Sunday, but I under-stand that Norma Karle did along withthe Bob & Di Stanley, Paul & Doris Karleand Tim & Joan Young did. I also under-

stand that Rod repeated his performanceon Sunday. He officially started “on thepole” because of his Saturday win, but itwill be no surprise that the V-8 Camarobeat him in “the drag race to the first turn”so Rod was Number 2 at the end of the1st lap. But the race was 10 laps and bylap number 10 Rod was Number 1 again.

It was a great weekend to go watch Rodrace and I will definitely do it again. Iencourage you to consider going down toLime Rock Connecticut for Labor DayWeekend to watch Rod race there. Seehttp://limerockhistorics.com/

Who Could Ask ForAnything More

June 27 at the Nick in Wolfeboro

by Ginger Christiansen

It looked like a record-breaking showfrom my viewpoint. Front and center wasfeatured marque – Austin Healeys linedin a graceful arc to show off their beauti-ful curves. The field was impressive —so many LBCs in one place, truly a Brit-ish car lover’s dream.

The raffle table was kept busy the entireday selling tickets for 50/50, general itemsand big ticket ones too. We got to talk toso many people and share stories. Every-one was very generous. A special thankyou goes to Barry Podmore for his gen-erous donation to the raffle table. Anotherperson who stood out was Chris Michalskiwho drove his MGB all the way fromWashington State. Speaking of which,Chris said that someone named Barry paidhis entry fee to the show. Hmmmm. Thiswas Chris’ first show and we werepleased to explain things to him. Take thetime to read about his trip posted throughthe MG Experience. It’s a really goodread; see how others across the countrygave him advice and added to his adven-tures. It goes to show you that there aremany wonderful people in this world.

We were thankful that the weather wasaccommodating. Every time it got a littletoo warm a breeze cooled us off. Thestrategically placed cooling tents were wellused from. It’s really nice to see this groupof LBC enthusiasts grow in membership.People get a strong feeling that we reallyenjoy driving and showing off our cars.

The second not-annual BCNH beachparty was held on August 11th at GreatIsland Common in New Castle, NH.Many of the members and friends andfamily enjoyed the day at one of theSeacoast’s best kept secret beach. GreatIsland is truly the gem of Seacoast NH!We were very lucky to get there in timeto secure a lovely shaded area overlook-

Great Island Commoning the water and were able to park ourcars facing the coast. (Our cars seemedto have many admirers throughout theday.) The day had something for every-

one. We had a group of kite fliers andanother group playing croquet. The restof us just enjoyed the great company andthe beautiful view. Thanks to all who madethe trip to enjoy our beautiful coast!

After a week of scorching heat – almosttoo hot for driving in an open car - Sun-day July 21 was almost a perfect day.OK, it did sprinkle on us for a minute ortwo up in Milton Mills, but just enough towet the windshields – not enough to wetthe interiors (and the occupants) – at leastnot much.

We left Historic Motor Sports in Candiajust about on time with five cars: Joyceand I were leading with my ’52 MG-TD;then Judy Pevine in her ’79 MGB; andElliot More driving his SAAB (theHealey stayed home) Bev Bonner withher ’64 Sunbeam Alpine and SueMacDuff with Amy Sletten acting asnavigator and providing the walkie-talkieconnection between the front and backof the line.

Drive to Newick’scontinued

Tom and LuAnne Varney met us inMilton (north of Rochester) in their red’62 MGA but, unfortunately, I didn’t learnuntil I got home and recharged my cellphone that Hank Giles also tried to con-nect with us in Milton with his ’75 Tri-umph Spitfire. Hank had sent me a text, but with a dead phone it didn’t get throughand I didn’t know to be looking for him.My apologies to Hank. I don’t knowif we drove right past him or not becauseI wasn’t “looking for him.” Please don’tgive up on us Hank. I’ll try to do betternext time.

So, we had six cars for the best part ofJohn Giese’s route north and east of Roch-ester. Even though it’s pretty straight onRoute 125, I’ve always liked the stretchnorth of Rochester. It keeps you off Route16 and wends its way through severaltowns that have that “old commercialroad” feel instead of being lined with stripmalls.

Once we made the turn off of Route 125and started heading east toward MiltonMills, the road became much prettier –and much more rural. Between Route125 and Route 9 just east of Berwick,John’s route had us on “numbered roads”for only a few hundred yards. The restof the route was un-numbered “backroads” – many without even a centerstripe. I’m not quite sure how John foundthis route, but I thank him for it.

He also found a way (Green Street andSpeen Street) to get us from the StateLine crossing at Berwick/Somersworthback into Dover without having to travelthrough the heavily commercial areasbetween.

We had a pleasant surprise when got toNewick’s (actually several pleasant sur-prises since eating at Newick’s is alwayspleasant) but we did not expect to findCarl Perr y’s spectacular light blue 62MGB in the parking lot. You may remem-ber that Carl’s car is a very early “pullhandle” MGB and was the FeaturedCar at the Show of Dreams last yearwhen we celebrated the 50th anniversary

of the MGB.

The meal was, of course, exactly whatyou would expect from Newick’s and therelaxed atmosphere of Newick’s wasperfect for the kind of Club Fellowshipthat BCNH Members so greatly enjoy.

All in all, a great day for a BCNH Sun-day Dinner Drive.

simply could not have been better with amix of sun and clouds with a nice breeze. The show was held on the parking lot andlawn with a lot of shade under the trees. We were joined by about nine otherBCNH Members. There were about 50LBCs and it seemed that a good majorityof them were in mint condition. The staffand residents of the home very much en-joyed the show. It was fun to watch themtry to pick out their favorite car to rideoff into the sunset in. Free food was pro-vided. The venue seemed to be just rightfor folks to wander about and visit.

edge - under the trees and next to theVolleyball Court.

o We ate and talked and played cro-quet and just had a fine day of pic-nicking in the park.

· Just yesterday about 50 of us (27cars) met in Milford for breakfast andthen took an absolutely spectacular drive(on an absolutely spectacular day)crossing five of the 65 Covered Bridgesthat are sprinkled all around NH. Onceagain Member Norma Karle found aroute for us that “threaded the needle”through all five bridges while treating usto travel on some of the loveliest backroads in the State.

Once again I am pleased to report that“The Club” didn’t plan any of theseevents. Things happen because Mem-bers make them happen. And there iscertainly A LOT happening at BCNH.

Also note that no one Member goes toALL of these events. The reason weplan so many events is so you can choseto attend those that interest you – andat the same time not feel obligated to goto ones that don’t interest you.

And Members don’t have to do ALL thework. For many events we just tag alongon something that has been organized byanother Club or Car Enthusiast group.

I encourage you to check out the Eventscalendar on the www.BCNH.org websiteto see all of the other “opportunities” thatthere are to get together with fellowBCNHers – and members of other carclubs – to enjoy your car(s) and their fel-lowship.

As we have said so many times before, the reason this club has so many inter-esting things to do is because its mem-bers do so many interesting things. Please help us to keep that interest levelhigh.

The Members who have the most fun arethe ones who are there to get in on it.

game and picked a card. At the end weshot darts for our last card. There was adrive to each stop with a bit of historyand a question to be answered along theway. The games included roll the tire, catch a plastic reptile/bug, toss the bal-loon (not good with the breeze) and re-cite the alphabet backwards (thankfullywith some help from your partner!) Thisrally was more relaxed than others wehave been on and the stops allowed us tovisit with the other participants. We mayeven have loured in two new members, one with an MGA and another with anAlvis which he is in the process of re-storing.

up, you all love to talk about your cars:where they come from and how you makethem shine. I have to let you know rightnow that the newsletter would love to hearyour story. How about being the next “Carof the Month”?

My eyes scan over all the MGs, the TRs,the Austin Martins, the Stags, the Jagsand so many more. As I walk through therows of cars, I start to scan the licenseplates that help this “newbee” learn thedifferent models and years. It also helpedme to strike up conversations with people.Got to love those “vanity plates”! And thenI started to chuckle at the humor of someof them. I found Jaguar’s with “BIGCAT”and “BLKCAT”, a yellow car with“JSTDUKY”, a Sunbeam with “BEAM”and Stag with “GOSTAG”. Other platesincluded: “1FUNTR6”, “66PURR” anda little girls favorite was the orange Lo-tus ELISE with the plate “CHEETOS”.Her mom said that she wanted to comeback this year to especially see this car.

I stopped and had a wonderful conversa-tion with Roger and Crystal Treadwallwith their ’72 MG. Did you know that theyare currently restoring an MGC-68 auto-matic convertible and that there were lessthan 500 built?

This year at the show we have a 1953M38A1 Willey Jeep. Bryan Pugsley is theproud owner of this beauty. Bryan lovesto show off his prize possession at carshows, parades, and reenactments.

By this time, I am truly thankful for themany cooling stations that we havearound the field. Life doesn’t get betterthan this as I stand in the shade of one ofthese tents enjoying the view and beauti-ful weather.

As I gaze out, I spy my next destination.I cross the field and stand in line at the“Five Star Barbeque & Catering”. I treatmyself to a hamburger, wonderful bakedbeans, and cornbread. Yummy! Nice jobeveryone. I heard the pulled pork wasdelicious!

Now to rest in one of my favorite tents –The Regalia tent, where I get to spend

time with Joan & Tim Young, Betty Bland,Ella Stanley, and my mother-in-law GerryCleary. Here they sell all our t-shirts,fleece pullovers, hats and more. A bigthanks to Joan & Tim and all their help-ers who keep this tent going every yearwith new ideas of things to sell.

Now that I am rested, I am going to stepover to the information tent. This is oneof the first tents that you come to whenyou enter the field. As well as being theinformation tent, it is also the registrationtent. Here I find the three musketeers –Norma Karle, Doris Karle, and DianaStanley. It is amazing how they pull it alltogether from registration to tallying upthe votes at the end. Their dedication andcommitment shines with the help of theircounterparts – Rod Folia, Paul Karle, andBob Stanley. Thank you for all the workthat you do today and everyday behindthe scenes. Without each of you and allof the SOD committee, the “Show ofDreams” would not be what it is today!

I pull up a chair next to Mike Sweet, ourclub Historian, and more importantly thefounder of the BCNH car club. Hestarted this club in 1991 when he decidedto branch off from another group. Duringour conversation, he showed me a mem-bership list dated August 5, 1991 withtwelve members. Today our membershipshows over 300 members. One of Mike’sbiggest regret was a fire that destroyed alot of records and props. His vision forour club is to have more events, fun thingsto do, enjoy our cars, drives, and tech ses-sions. His motto for the club is: “Don’ttake things too seriously, have fun andenjoy your cars.” Today we brought ineleven new memberships. Way to goMike!

After my visit with Mike, I make my wayover to the “High Hopes” tent where Iget to reminisce with Rachel about thewishes being granted and to tell her allabout my son Jon-Michael’s wish that wasgranted years ago. Jon-Michael’s wishwas to go to Disney World and it wasAWESOME! It gave him memories thatlasted a lifetime for him. Those memo-ries will stay in my heart forever as well.

Did you know that “High Hopes” has

been around for 30 years? It was startedin 1983. The Foundation has given hope, joy, and light to New Hampshire childrenbetween three and eighteen who are se-riously or chronically ill. Two neighbors,Jacque Yinger and Dawn Cavanaugh, started the program. Jacque’s daughter,a cancer patient, was the first child tohave her wish granted. Alison’s wish wasto go to Disney World. From that firstwish, the seed was planted to help otherchildren have this same experience. Todate, High Hopes has granted over 580wishes. You can find more information onthe High Hopes website, Facebook, Twit-ter, and Linked In. Their 30-year celebra-tion will be an evening in November andwill include a silent auction.

Now for the moment that you have allbeen waiting for – The Awards! Thevotes have been tallied and everyone isstanding around the DJ tents for the an-nouncements. BUT first I want to tell youabout this year’s 1st place prizes. The 1st

place winners will be going home with abottle of Malbec wine that was createdby Pinch & Suzie Polenchar. Thesebottles are in a wooden yoke made byDave Corbett with wine glasses that havebeen etched with the BCNH Logo. Sucha wonderful trophy, I wonder if I can get1st prize with my British car match boxset?

As I leave for the day, I am so glad to bea part of it all. The “Miracles” of whatwill be done with all the donations of theday and the “Memories” of spending timewith all of you, knowing that once againwith the help, love, and dedication of ev-erybody, another “Show of Dreams” hascome to an end.

Don’t forget to say “Good-bye” to theBobbie as you leave. He was the firstperson you saw when you came in, greet-ing you and directing you while he flashesyou one of those famous “Wade” smiles.Thank you, Wade dos Santos for yourcommitment to the cause, bringing authen-ticity to the show every year with yourBeefeater and Bobbie outfits.

With much admiration,

Goldie
