Local artist James L. Russo will have his first, open to the public, solo art exhibit at the EastGreenbush Library for the full month of February, 2013.Mr. Russo took up the art a few years ago in order to help his sister regain the art skills she hadlost to dementia. The art displayed at the library will reflect his beginning art, from graphiteto various stages of different kinds of mediums. FOOD PANTRY

On January 14, 2013, as part of its continuing CommunityHeroes Campaign, Hudson River Community Credit Union(HRCCU) donated $250.00 to the Hope 7 Food Pantry in Troy,NY. HRCCU’s Community Heroes Campaign donates five dollarsfor each new HRCCU member or current member who adds aproduct or service during the month. To date, this campaignhas generated thousands of dollars in donations to localcommunity organizations. The food pantry was opened in 1987and serves well over 100 families per month. The Center alsofunctions as a hub for connecting people to various otherservices they need related to government entitlementprograms, health care, employment, housing, childcare andpersonal concerns. The Center is staffed by volunteers andaccepts food donations, monetary donations and householditems.

The kitchen is arguably the most-used room in the house duringwaking hours. Having a kitchen that is laid out in an efficient mannercan improve productivity and make for a more enjoyable experience.Designers often stress having an effective work triangle in thekitchen. The phrase “kitchen work triangle” started with the BuildingResearch Council (formerly the Small Homes Council) at theUniversity of Illinois. The idea came from studies of space usage andthe search for efficient kitchen designs. What the triangle essentiallymeans is positioning three key items of the kitchen for efficiency.The stove, sink and refrigerator represent the three main points ofthe triangle. Having these items spaced accordingly can make workeasier. Having them too close together can create a cramped,ineffective room. The placement of the triangle points alone doesnot make a successful layout. According to the University of MissouriExtension, the triangle space should also be measured accordingly.Put 4 to 7 feet between the refrigerator and sink, 4 to 6 feet betweenthe sink and stove and 4 to 9 feet between the stove and refrigerator,with the ideal size resulting in a work triangle where the three sidestotal between 15 and 22 feet.
