he annual Volkswagen Rally will roar in-
to action from Auto Pavilion in Uitenha-
ge tomorrow at 12:00 and finish at the Nelson
Mandela Bay Stadium in Port Elizabeth on
Saturday afternoon.
A shake-down gravel special stage in the
Jagtvlakte area near theVW factorywill take
place today between 08:00 and 11:00 and the
usual single-pass recce run of the full route
will take place between 11:00 and 17:00.
For spectators at the 2014 Volkswagen Ral-
ly, winning comes easily as the event is or-
ganised to make it as spectator-friendly as
possible with 15 stages of competition. The
route, laid out by the Algoa Rally Club, fea-
tures a mix of tar, gravel and forest stages
with fast sweeps and very technical sections.
The entire rally has been optimised to
make spectating as easy as it can be, says
JoeFourie, routedirector for theVolkswagen
Rally.
From stage one near Mission Road,
through the Longmore Forest and on to Jef-
freys Bay tomorrow evening, the stages pro-
duce plenty of challenges for the competitors
and lots of good opportunity for the specta-
tors to keep up with the action.

crime in our area as members of the
community police can now patrol on a 48cc-
petrol-driven mountain bike.
The donation of this super bike is proof
of the snowball effect of our successwith local
sector policing.
Residents see the impact it has and more
people become involved, said Etienne Jou-
bert, chairman of Uitenhages Sector Polic-
ing Forum.
Success was especially achieved in Vanes
where crimewas particularly rife earlier this
year. According to Pat Unsworth, chairper-
son of Uitenhages Community Policing,
crime was down by half since residents be-
came involved in sector policing.
We are grateful for the support , particu-
larly for the donation of a super bike. Trans-
port is a problem and the bikewill be an asset
in patrolling, Unsworth said.
Simon Clark, a Muir old boy and owner of
SuperCycles in Port Elizabeth, donated the
bike. A second bike will be delivered in Au-
gust.
Aperson should become involvedwith ini-
tiatives benefitting the community. It is the
right thing to do and makes a difference,
Clark said.
These petrol-driven bikes are faster than
a car in traffic. Theyare effective andeconom-
ically viable to maintain and will add speed
to policing.
By fitting a 48cc two-cycle petrol engine,
Clark adds spark to a standard mountain
bike. Although its average speed is 35 km/h,
this baby can reach top speed of approximate-
ly 50 km/h.
Eightykilometres canbe coveredwitha full
2 litre tank.
According to sector policings Warrant Of-
ficer Werner Arndt, Uitenhage is the only po-
lice station in the Metro where private dona-
tions improve community policing.
This proves that people want to be in-
volved with initiatives that are managed suc-
cessfully.

Twee motoriste het verlede week in af-
sonderlike voorvalle nouliks aan die dood
ontkom n ongelukke by hierdie reusegat.
Nee wat! So kan dit nie aangaan nie. Eers
het n hele spul jaagduiwels wat dink In-
nesstraat is n resiesbaan hier deur my tuin-
muur gebars. Nou is hierdie gat hier.
Ek vrees elke dag dat iemand in die gat
gaan ry. Sowaar daar gebeur dit en sommer
twee ongelukke in een week by die gat, s
Katie Adams, n jarelange inwoner van
Innesstraat op Uitenhage.
Sy s die gat is sowat ses weke gelede
gegrawe nadat water by die padoppervlak
begin uitborrel het. Sedertdien is daar twee
geel plastiekbuffers weerskante van die
reuse gat geplaas om motoriste te waarsku.
Die buffers word deur die wind omgewaai
en as dit plat l sien motoriste dit eers op n
kort afstand. Hier is ook geen waarskuwings
wat in die nag reflekteer nie, so as jy sien is
jy by die gat.
Ek dink dit is baie nalatig van diemunisi-
paliteit. Daar is min spasie vir die verkeer
om langs die gat verby te ry en die situasie
is lewensgevaarlik, het Adams ges.

s nwaterpyphet gebars enmet die regmaak
daarvan is n stormwaterpyp beskadig.
Beamptes moet nou die stormwater-
pyp herstel maar hulle beweer dat daar
nie materiaal is om die herstelwerk te doen
nie.

waterlekke is die rede dat daar nie materiaal
beskikbaar is nie, het Terblanche ges.
Hy het n ernstige beroep aan die munisi-
paliteit gerig dat die Innesstraat herstelwerk
so spoedig moontlik afgehandel moet word
om verdere ongelukke te vermy.
Daar is aan Terblanchemeegedeel dat kon-
trakteurs hierdie week die stormwaterpyp
gaan herstel en die gat gaan toegooi.

spectrum of their tyre mould maintenance
and we are still providing this service to our

HG Mold Maintenance cc invested in a
building in the RKA Industrial Park in Janu-
ary 2013 where they have set-up a fully
equipped machine shop to provide quality
service and delivery for a wider range of in-
dustries than just the tyre industry in South
Africa. Part of its new service is not only con-
centrated on tyre molds but also includes
general machine maintenance, press over-
hauls and the production of a variety of other
products as required by customers.
They have well trained technicians and
machinists and have invested in CNC ma-
chinery and equipment to provide customers
the facility of a state of the art machine shop

xcitement is building in the Metro for
themuchanticipated return of theTrain
Race concept as the inaugural Nelson Man-
dela Bay Train Race gets set to leave the Port
Elizabeth station at 09:00 on July 27.
The concept, re-introduced by Zports after
an absence of 10 years, will see running
teams of 7 members taking on a Metro Rail
train betweenPort Elizabeth andUitenhage,
a distance of approximately 40km.
Various categories of entry have been
made available to include corporate, social,
club and school teams as they challenge each
other for trophies andbragging rights in this
signature Metro event.
Limited to just 300 teams, the NelsonMan-
dela Bay Train Race is expected to sell out,
given that over a half of the allotted entries
have already been snapped up by local com-
panies.
Traingets ready to raceagainst runners
Zports have also made spectator tickets
available on the train with less than a third
of the 500 tickets remaining.
Entry fees started at R350 per team with
spectator train tickets only R50 for a return
ticket. The Nelson Mandela Bay Train Race
also offers companies the opportunity to or-
der custom-branded t-shirts with their en-
try as well as hospitality packages for the
finish festival area.
NMBT chief executive officer Mandlakazi
Skefile said they welcomed the idea of the
event as it would continue to promote the re-
gions status as a popular sporting destina-
tion.
TheGreat TrainRacewas one of the largest
road running events in the provincewhen re-
lay teams raced the Apple Express train be-
tween Port Elizabeth and Loerie in 2004.
This year a new, sustainable format has
been conceived which will become the first
major sporting event to incorporate all three
towns which make up Nelson Mandela Bay
- Port Elizabeth, Despatch and Uitenhage - as
relay teams cover the 40km distance between
Port Elizabeth station and the Uitenhage Sta-
tion and will race against a Metro Rail train.
Each year the race direction will alternate to
create an up and a down run.
The first teams are expected to reachUiten-
hage Station around 11:00 and the last teams
should be in just before the 13:00 prize giving
on the Powerade Stage.
A festival of activities will welcome teams
at Uitenhage Station including the Castle
Lite Beer Garden managed by the Rotary
Club of Port Elizabeth Sunrise for charity
with lots of food vendors in support.
Partnership and branding opportunities
have been made available for companies at
each of the change-over stations, water
points or on train coaches.
Any organisations or individuals keen to
volunteer their support on the morning are
encouraged to contact the organisers

hage en Steytlerville, het hulle pad oopgesing
na die finale van n nasionale koorsang-kom-
petisie.
Die groep dogters van die sekstet het met
hulle a-capella sang eerste plekke behaal in
hulle afdeling tydens uitdunrondtes in Hu-
mansdorp, Port Elizabeth en Mthatha.
Die groep gaan nou die Oos-Kaap verteen-
woordig by die finale van die Suid-Afrikaanse
SkoleKoorsang-kompetisie, wat op 15 Julie in
Durban gehouword. Palmietrivier Primr se
skoolhoof en koorafrigter, Francis Andrews,
s hulle is baie trots op die dogters. Die skool
het slegs 107 leerders en het menige groot
skole uitgestof omdeur te dringna die nasion-
ale rondte.

TWO (2) YEAR TERM
The Cacadu District Municipality (CDM) has embarked on a drive to promote the
district business model of capacity building and the support to local municipalities.
To this effect funding has been set aside to finance an Unemployed Graduate
Programme to ensure that unemployed graduates are provided with relevant
practical training skills and appropriate experience in various disciplines.
CDM invites applications from unemployed graduates that resides in the following
Local Municipalities: Baviaans, Blue Crane Route, Camdeboo, Kouga, Koukamma,
Ikwezi, Makana, Ndlambe and Sundays River Valley to participate in the following
internship programmes:
1. Economic Development [LED and Tourism]
Core Requirements - Tertiary qualification: Degree or BTech in Developmental
Studies / Tourism and Marketing.
2. Public Relations / Communication
Core Requirements - Tertiary qualification: Degree or BTech in Public
Relations.
3. Infrastructure and Planning / Civil Engineering BTech
Core Requirements - Tertiary qualification: Degree or Diploma in Civil
Engineering / Degree or BTech in Town and Regional Planning.
4. Information Technology
Core Requirements - Tertiary qualification: Degree or BTech in Computer
Science, or Hardware and Software maintenance.
5. Performance Management
Core Requirements - Tertiary qualification: Degree or BTech in Public
Administration or Human Resources Management with a subject or module in
Performance Management Systems.
6. Supply Chain Management
Core Requirements - Tertiary qualification: Degree or BTech in Purchasing/
Logistics.
On appointment, Interns will be expected to sign internship contracts with Cacadu
District Municipality and a contract with a specific Local Municipality in which they may
be placed [if a need arises] during the internship programme.
Graduates will be screened for suitability and the residential address within the Cacadu
District and its local municipality will be verified. Should it be found that applicants
misrepresented themselves they will be disqualified from the programme. Shortlisted
candidates may have to undergo assessment test by Council where necessary.
Interested graduates must forward their application to the Human Resources Division at
respective local municipalities or directly to the Cacadu District Municipality.

The Cacadu District Municipality has secured funding from National Treasury
(Finance Management Grant) to embark on a project that is aimed at ensuring the
successful implementation of Budget and Accounting reforms within the District
Municipality and selected Local Municipalities in the District. The Programme will
facilitate on the job technical skills development of Interns.
As part of the project, Interns will undergo intensive training in Municipal Accounting
and Financial Management. The Accounting and Financial areas include inter alia.
Revenue Collection and Debtors administration
Payment of creditors
Payroll Administration
Cash Flow and Investment Management
Risk Management and Short Term Insurance
Bank Reconciliations
Budgeting and in year reporting
Preparation of Financial Statements
Supply Chain Management
This position will suit candidates with the following profile
Belong to previously disadvantaged group or background;
Possess a formal qualification in Accounting, Finance, Auditing and Economics;
Must be computer literate with knowledge of MS Office, Software
Packages (MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint);
Ability to speak at least two languages spoken within the Councils area of
jurisdiction;
Must be willing to undergo an assessment test;
Preference will be given to those applicants coming from CDM area of
jurisdiction.
