Dear Parents and Caregivers,
This week is one of exciting new beginnings and sad, sincere farewells.
The Year 7 Orientation Day on Thursday for all the Year 6 students joining Reddam House High
School next year was an exciting affair, with the students given a taste of what life might be
like next year as they start the next chapter of their lives. Mrs. Karney, a team of teachers and
the Year 9 Junior Executive certainly ensured that the day was memorable.
At the other end of the spectrum, this week has had the Year 12 students in a turmoil of emo-
tions as they have experienced a number of “lasts” in their time at Reddam. Last week of
school, last formal lesson in each of their subjects, last assembly. They bade farewell to the
school at their final assembly at Event Cinemas on Friday. On Monday evening the School
wishes them on their way at their Valedictory. Such an emotional time as the realisation starts
sinking in that it is actually all over, bar the little matter of the HSC examinations, which start in
October.

Jordan Giannopoulos who has been racing go-carts for many years finished second after a
tough fought event held at the Manning Valley circuit over the weekend. Last weekend he
competed in the NSW State Titles round of the Karting Australia 100cc Junior Heavy Category.
Jordan drove his kart to take Pole Position on Friday and finished 1st and 2nd in the heats on
Saturday. On Sunday, he finished second in the 30 lap Final by just 2/10ths of a second after
swapping the lead 5 times in a nose-to-tail battle. He earnt the admiration of competitors,
officials and team managers as he had never competed at the circuit previously.
Taj Leung performed solidly in the National Skiing Championships and came a respectable
15th at the Nationals on the Weekend.

What a great success! Thank you to all students and staff who attended to support the Year 8 En-
trepreneurship classes and Year 9 Commerce elective groups.
This was the first year that the Year 8 Entrepreneurship course has run. The students together with
their teacher Ruchika Sahai came up with some creative activities including Melon Ball, Pie throw-
ing, Sock Wrestling to name a few. Throughout the year students have been learning about the key
skills in running a business and promoting and selling including a focus on branding and advertising.
The money raised by these students will be reinvested to assist with their own small businesses.
The Year 9 Commerce students performed exceptionally well raising more than double the amount
in previous years with a total reaching just under $2000. The funds raised will contribute to the Inter-
national Community Service Project for 2017. A very big thank you to the families and businesses
who supported these students through monetary and product donations. There are always so
many stories to tell from the experiences of the students. One in particular was Ava Turnbull from ‘Lil
Sizzle’. She sourced an unwanted BBQ and cleaned it up to use it on the day. Afterwards she col-
lected the uncooked sausages from her stall and with the BBQ went to Kings Cross and cooked for
Street Buffet. After this Ava donated the BBQ to the organization so they could continue to cook
food for those in need.
It is extremely overwhelming to see the generosity and humility that so many of our students pos-
sess. There are so many skills and life lessons that these students learn as a result of the day includ-
ing the ability to cook and work in teams to achieve a common goal. I am extremely grateful to be
working with young people who are our future leaders and change makers.

Please enjoy reading the comments and impact the experience has had on our students.
“It was exciting to feel the pressure of how real businesses function and enjoyable to serve delicious
food to our fellow peers and teachers”. Ilana Soroko
“Market day was an experience of lifetime. It really taught us how to effectively set up and run a
business. Personally I had no idea that it would take so much work to organise everything you need
to set up a business, also I didn't know how tiring the actual day would be. As most of our group
had never actually had a full time job where you have to work for around 6 hours in a day it was
definitely a shock to most of us”. Marcus Buckley
“Market day is a considerably stressful day however the benefits that one reaps from the day is be-
yond valuable. It was a challenge that we had never encountered before and the thought of run-
ning our own business for the first time was quite foreboding. However we were able to overcome
these obstacles through teamwork and hard work, allowing us to learn important skills such as finan-
cial management, project organisation and collaboration, whilst raising funds for charity, aiding
those in need. Overall the hard work and participation was worth it as we accomplished and
learned things that will be significant for our futures within commerce”. Rachael Rozengurt
“The marketing strategies our group used were particularly creative and effective. We put a lot of
effort into organising a chilli challenge. This hard work payed off as lots of customers came to our
stall because of the chilli challenge. Ours was remarkable because we came in not knowing how
to even make a simple drink. Overall our group learnt how to work under pressure our motto was
‘There is always a solution to every problem,’ and therefore we achieved what we wanted”. La
Bamba

They created an original, moving and contemporary play “100, 93, 86…” which explores
the affects of insomnia and takes some influence from the play “4.48 Psychosis” by the
late Sarah Kane. It is a testament to their dedication and hard work and the result of
many years commitment to drama at Reddam House. I, with the rest of their teachers, am
very proud.
