TRANSCRIPT
Dear Parents and Caregivers,
The school has become a very quiet place with Year 7 to Year 9 students involved in Yearly
Examinations, Year 10 students receiving feedback following their examinations and the Year
12 students starting their first HSC assessment week.
Next week the Year 10 students are excited to be going on a week’s work experience. As I
explained to them, this week is important as it can help them when deciding their future ca-
reer paths. A wonderful experience next week can mean that the job is something worth pur-
suing aggressively while if the week is a disaster at least no further time is wasted pursuing that
career. Either outcome is valuable.
What a student does with the rest of their lives after school is that important, that we want
them to take these opportunities seriously.
Today we received news that two of our HSC artists have been officially selected to hang in
the Art Express exhibition in 2017.
Sofia Papageorgious's work has been chosen to be exhibited at the Art Gallery of NSW. Her
work will then move to the Tamworth Regional Gallery and then to the Western Plains Cultural
Centre.
Lily Speiser's work has been chosen to be exhibited at the Moree Plains Gallery.
We are so excited that these works are going to be viewed by so many around the state of
NSW.

Jordan Giannopoulos last weekend competed in the Canberra Cup at the Mark Webber circuit in
Canberra. He managed to win his class by coming first in all heat races and won the final by an
incredible half a lap. Jordan also became the 2016 Canberra State Champion by winning the Can-
berra Cup; a perpetual trophy judged on results across all junior and senior classes on the week-
end. His name will now be engraved on the cup that also includes previous champions such as
Mark Webber and Mark Winterbottom (the current Aussie V8 Supercar Champion). In a complete
and welcome surprise, Mark Webber himself acknowledged Jordan’s win on the post of the result
on social media. Incredible Jordan, well done.

Last weekend saw a number of sporting finals and semi-finals with the summer season winding
down in various sports.
The Year6/Year 7 and 1st Team girl’s touch teams both won their semi-finals and will be playing in
the grand finals this weekend. All our boys and girls water polo teams are playing in the semi-finals
of the Eastern Suburbs Competition this weekend. The basketball league continues this weekend
with normal matches and the tennis teams all completed their leagues last weekend. Congratula-
tions to Karlo Susa and the 1st team on their win. The 2nd side of Elliot Gibson and Max Russell also
won their final while the 4th team (Kai Mashimo and Marcus Buckley) and 10th team (Rami El-Ajouz
and Oscar Pang) lost their respective finals. Congratulations to all students who represented Red-
dam last weekend and best of luck to those in the finals this weekend.
An email will be sent out next week outlining the final programme for the last week of school.
Have a good week ahead,
Dave Pitcairn

All our HSC artists have recently enjoyed the White Rabbit Gallery. They were excited to view the
contemporary Asian artworks and obtain a deeper understanding of the artists' life and culture
and the restrictions within which they work.
The exhibition was VILE BODIES which explores the vile within human beings. These Chinese artists
explored the monsters we contain and the monsters we create to enlarge the picture of the great-
er hybrid human animal.

ANDRE PIRES
The man washing the never ending steps. When I saw this image by reportage photographer An-
dre Pires, I was initially taken by the power of the red. The more you look you question if the man is
in fact imprisoned by the steps which is emphasised by the red suit which binds him to his job. The
linear repetition of the stairs is engaging and makes one consider the plight of this faceless, name-
less New York worker. The emotion of passion is felt through the powerful red hue and the strength
in the push of the broom which is echoed by the agitated froth. This cleansing movement leads
the viewer to again question the demeanour of the man and rather appreciate the action as one
of empowerment through ones work and choice of action.
Thank you for sharing Andre. As a teacher, these are the moments we cherish and why teaching is
so rewarding. Laurellen Symonds.

Habonim Dror - Jewish Youth Movement - Summer Camp
Habonim Dror is a Jewish youth movement that runs events and camps throughout the year for
kids in the community. In December we have our annual 'Kayetzet' (Junior summer camp)
for Years 3 to 8. Our 5-day winter and summer camps attract between 100-150 kids each year. On
camp, campers participate in informal educational programs, active and fun activities, and have
the adventurous experience of camping with kids their age. Camp is an incredible opportunity for
kids to do something different in their holidays, make new friends, re-connect with old friends and
be inspired by our leaders who actively engage themselves in the Jewish and broader community.
Kayetzet is from December 21-25. Sign up today at www.hdoz.com/sydney-camp.
If you have any questions please call the head of camp Eve Altman on 0449144255 or
email [email protected].
