Dear Parents and Caregivers,

What a week. A new Prime Minister and with his new

cabinet, we get a new Minister for Education, the Hon

Dan Tehan MP. The former Minister for Education, Sena-

tor the Hon Simon Birmingham starts a new portfolio as

the Minister for Trade, Tourism and Investment.

Turbulent times.

At school however, no such upheaval and change ex-

cept for Sophie Allen who returns to England for a num-

ber of very important family events. She will be back

midway through term four. We welcome Sinead

O’Shea who will be filling in for the next two months.

The Bondi Campus has been wonderfully quiet this

week with the Year 10 students at Thredbo on the an-

nual Ski Camp. News from the slopes is that the snow is

as good as anyone can remember. The students are

loving the opportunity to get to know one another in

this idyllic setting. My thanks to Mrs Symonds and her

team of teachers who have made that possible.

The Year 11 and Year 12 students continue with their

Final and Trial Examinations respectively. All appear to

be coping well and the results so far reflect a positive

trend.

The Year 12 Drama students had to negotiate the Final

Drama Performance Examinations on Monday and

Tuesday. With these monologues and group perfor-

mances, NESA insists on an audience. What a wonder-

ful opportunity that was for the Year 9 Drama Elective

students to witness the expected standard of HSC per-

formances. Mr. Hodgson reports that all the Year 12

students were at their best and happy that they put

their best foot forward.

On Thursday the Year 9 Executive ran a Pink Mufti Day

to raise funds for Breast Cancer Network Australia. They

organised a Dodge Ball Competition, a sausage sizzle

and a bake sale to coincide with the event. This turned

out to be extremely popular and well supported by the

students. The music on the basketball court added to

the atmosphere and a truly memorable charity drive,

which focussed on getting everyone involved, eating

good food, dressing up and playing games. Congratu-

lations to Mr Benton and the Year 9 Executive who or-

ganised the events.

In assembly this week we had the privilege of having

successful businessperson, TV personality, and member

of the Reddam Community, Todd Sampson volunteer-

ing his time to teach us how to ―Redesign our Brains‖.

What a wonderful presentation that perfectly reinforc-

es our work with the students with regards to growth

mindset. The students were captivated. Thank you

Todd.

Charlie Rule has received wonderful news this week

while at Thredbo on Ski Camp. She has been selected

in the Young Matilda’s Soccer team to compete in Kyr-

gyzstan at the World Cup qualifiers after a training

camp at the AIS. The Under 17 Women’s National 23

player squad will travel to Kyrgyzstan to compete in the

AFC U18 Women’s Soccer Championship. Charlie, go

gently on the slopes to ensure there are no injuries

while skiing. A great achievement, well done.

Wishing all the Dad’s a very Happy Father’s Day for

Sunday. I certainly hope you all get spoilt.

Dave Pitcairn
