THREE TENETS

• Respect: It is a multi-way street. I will never disrespect you and you will never disrespect me, others, or yourself

• I am your teacher, not your friend. My ONLY goal is help you reach your potential

• Tenacity and Diligence: You owe it to YOURSELF to work as hard as humanly possible

Asking Questions

•THREE (3) BEFORE ME• If you have to ask Mr. Mitchell, raise your hand and remain silent AND PATIENT

Entering the Classroom

• Students will be seated and silent by the time the bell rings

• Most days, CNN student news will begin playing at the bell• Students are required to watch CNN student news quietly as there will be a

short quiz on the weeks’ news on Friday

Student Jobs

• Students will hold jobs

• 1) paper pass back (PPB)• 2) Teacher’s Assistant (TA)• 3) Technician (Tech)• 4) Distributor (Dist.)• 5) Messenger (Msgr.)

Unpacking Materials for Class

• All materials will be unpacked quietly and ready for use immediately after the bell rings

Before Class Starts

• Students will not socialize before class starts• Students be preparing for instruction immediately upon entering the

class

Pencil Sharpening

• Students will only sharpen pencil when given permission from Mr. Mitchell

• Students will sharpen their pencil quietly and promptly

• The entire process of sharpening ones pencil should take no longer than 25 seconds

Throwing Away Trash

• Students will only throw trash away when given permission from Mr. Mitchell

• Students will throw trash away quietly and promptly

• The entire process of throwing trash away should take no longer than 10 seconds

Using the Bathroom

• Excessive bathroom breaks take time away from your learning and Mr. Mitchell’s teaching

• Students cannot use the bathroom unless it is an emergency

• Bathrooom breaks are only allowed if they are requested properly, and one signs out properly with Mr. Mitchell in their agenda

Nurse/Counselor

• Students wishing to see the nurse or counselor must request properly and sign out properly with their agenda

• NURSE: MRS. MANDLEY• COUNSELOR: MRS. GARECHT

• Your paper will ALWAYS be headed on the TOP RIGHT SIDE

• NAME• DATE• MR MITCHELL• PERIOD• ASSIGNMENT

Turning in Work

• The black bin near the door is where work will be turned in

• The period you are in MATTERS

• Top Shelf=1st period• 2nd Shelf=2nd period• 3rd Shelf=3rd period• Bottom Shelf=5th period

Using Computers

• Computers can only be used with permission

*Missing/Absent/Makeup Assignments*

• It is the STUDENT’s responsibility to find out about AND make up any work that for whatever reason was not turned in on time (3 before me)

• Work missed from an excused absent can be turned in the two days after the student returns for full credit • EX: Absent Monday, Return Tuesday, Due Thursday

IF YOU CANNOT RECEIVE THE ASSIGNMENT FROM A FELLOW STUDENT, here is the procedure for requesting assignments:

• 1) Student will see Mr. Mitchell AFTER CLASS or during an agreed upon time• 2) Student will receive their work and complete it ASAP• 3) Student will turn-in their work ASAP to the proper black bin

Turning in Late Work

• Late work is worth 50% • 50% is better than 0%

• Late work is turned in just like any other work: PROPERLY HEADED

• Late work is turned in just like any other work: IN THE PROPER BLACK BIN

Getting Mr. Mitchell’s Attention

• Raising the hand and remaining silent AND PATIENT

• Whenever you see these signs, be quiet and await instructions• 1) QUIET sign• 2) LOB sign

• “Eyeballs”: SNAP• “Ears”: OPEN

When Another Adult Enters the Room

• Once Mr. Mitchell acknowledges the adult, students will properly greet the adult and shift their focus back to Mr. Mitchell

Dismissal Procedures

• The bell does not dismiss, Mr. Mitchell dismisses

• Students are dismissed when Mr. Mitchell says:• Have a wonderful day!

FINISHING EARLY

• Students will never be idle

• THREE (3) OPTIONS

• Study (Ex: History textbooks)• Homework (From my class or another class)• Read (books are on the blue shelves near the door)

EXTRA CREDIT

• Extra credit is a privilege, not a right

• Extra credit will never be a tool that can dig you out of your irresponsibility

• With that said, you can thank me later, I like to give out extra credit opportunities (consider yourself #blessed)

• I haven’t lesson planned the year yet

• WHAT DOES THAT MEAN??

• That means that we can either have a really fun year with lots of learning, or a really boring year with lots of learning

• THE CHOICE IS YOURS
