TheMpumalanga team not only make use of thefacilities at Hannah Game lodge, but alsoutilises Laerskool Ohrigstad’s rugby field. OnWednesday they took time out to interact withlearners in Ohrigstad and also visited MaepaPrimary School near Hannah Game Lodgewhere fun and games were the order of the day(more photographs on page 2).

Nkwe rescued?Nkwe Platinum, a platinum mine developmentcompany that is listed on the Australian StockExchange, said this week the the African MineralsExploration and Development Fund (AMED),Genorah Resources (Nkwe’s Black emopowermentshareholder) and Nkwe Platinum are finalising atransaction whereby Nkwe will be recapitalised.At the moment Nkwe shares are in a trading halt onthe Australian Stock Exchange. Nkwe says in ananoouncement the final details of the deal are stillbeing concluded, the end goal of the transactionwill see AMED become a significant shareholder inGenorah and, through that position, enable Genorahto recapitalise Nkwe.

In terms of the transaction a working capitalfacility of $4.5 million has been approved. “Thefacility is secured against Genorah’s shareholdingin Nkwe and will be provided to Nkwe through theexisting intercompany loan arrangements. Thefacility will provide Nkwe with working capital fundingwhilst AMED, Genorah and Nkwe finalise the largerstrategic partnership transaction. The intention isto conclude the draw down of the facility and resumetrading on ASX next week commencing 4 February2013” according to an announcement by thecompany stating further that “If for whatever reasonthe drawdown is not concluded alternative financingarrangements are being negotiated and uponfinalisation, they will form the basis of a request toASX for resumption of trading in the Company’sshares”.

Nkwe already concluded a bankable feasabilityfor their Garatau project near Burgersfort and willneed apart from the recapitalisation funds a largeinvestment to enable the development of a profitablemine.

Meanwhile some minority shareholders inGenorah Resources (which has a 60 percent stakein Nkwe) say they are not all for the deal with AMED(a Hong Kong investment entity registered inCyprus).

The minority shareholders argue that AMEDoutmanoeuvred Genorah entirely, creating asituation where the fund would effectively takecontrol of Genorah (and, through it, Nkwe), and ifallowed to proceed, will deny Nkwe access to thecapital markets to raise money and stop the entireproject. Nkwe Managing Director, MarediMphahlele, this week largely dismissed the concernsand actions of the minorities. “It is not an issue ofcontrol as is being spun,” he said. “There areobviously people who are unhappy, but the deal isnot under threat.” In fact, he said, it was effectivelydone, and shareholders would be informed aboutthe terms of the recapitalisation, which has beenmisunderstood, through normal companyannouncements.

Greater Tubatse Municipality awarded 20 bursaries toqualifying students on Friday, 25 of January 2013.

The awarding of the bursaries was done by the MayorCllr Noksi Josias Mahlake, Municipal Manager Mr LemonPhala, Chief Whip Cllr Samson Nkosi and ExecutiveCommittee Members. The bursaries are aimed at givingfinancial assistance to students who cannot afford tertiaryfees.

In his opening remarks Mayor Mahlake said that“when the schools reopened on the 9 January, we visitedschools that performed well and those who did badly. Wewant to salute Gobetse Secondary School in Ngwaabe forbeing the best performing school In Greater Tubatse byobtaining 97,3 % overall. We congratulate the schoolmanagement, educators, parents and learners for workingtogether and their hard work has paid off”. He also saidthat at times, it becomes frustrating to those who havepassed but are unable to proceed with studies due tofinancial constraints. That is why we took a decision tocontinue with the Mayoral bursary scheme to assist thosewho want to further their studies and in October last year,advertisements were placed in the local media inviting

learners to apply for this financial assistance. Hefurther emphasized that “your achievements makes usproud to see you being the best in your respectivecommunities. Government has prioritised education asone of the 5 areas of development and as the localsphere of government we are also committed to seeimprovements in the education of the youth” concludedthe Mayor”.

20 students will now be able to study at differentuniversities around Limpopo and Gauteng. The totalamount of the financial assistance is R300 000, whichwas broken into two different amounts of R10 000 andR20 000. The Municipality only assisted first yearstudents with R20 000 which covers

their registration, tutorial fees and accommodationwhereas second and third year students are beingassisted with R10 000 each. 12 Students are in theirfirst year, while 5 students are in their second year and3 students doing their last year.

The Municipality says it tried its utmost best toassist as many students as it could but the budgetdidn’t allow to do more than that.

20 Bursaries awarded

The Limpopo Department of Cooperative Governance, HumanSettlements and Traditional Affairs (CoGHSTA) this week metwith all Senior Traditional Leaders and some headmen inPolokwane to discuss and make inputs on the LimpopoInitiation School Repeal Bill.

The Bill is aimed at regulating the holding of initiationschools, provide for the prohibition against abduction, providefor a consent or permission for the performance of initiationoperations and also provides for the implementation andmonitoring of health and hygiene standards.

Resolutions taken with regard to the Bill include that if aperson is not a graduate and caught snooping around at theinitiation school, he will be detained. If you are under age, theschool will consult with your parents and Senior TraditionalLeader concerned for permission. Admission fees will beregulated and issued by the MEC for CoGHSTA inconsultation with Senior Traditional Leaders. Local Housesmust establish committees to assist the Provincial House inrecommending applications for initiation schools, which mustbe approved or disapproved by the Department. People above21-years of age can attend initiation schools without theirparents’ or guardians’ consent. Senior Traditional Leaders arenot allowed to operate initiation schools in other SeniorTraditional Leader’s areas of jurisdiction.

The closing date for applications of Limpopo InitiationSchool Permits is on the 28 February 2013. All applicationsmust be submitted to all five districts in the province.CoGHSTA will later conduct an initiation school compulsoryworkshop for all Senior Traditional Leaders in an effort toreduce the mortality rate and other related matters.

Who was first?Steelpoort Academy was one of the schoolsin the area who held their inter houseathletics over the past two weeks. The highschool and the primary school sections hadtheir events seperately.The high school was first after rain promptedthe primary school section to postpone.Eventually in blistering heat the childrenparticipated in field and track items.Everything was held in good sporting spiritsand the children enjoyed it very much.

Verlede week Saterdag het die veerpyltjies (darts) behoorlikop Winterveld gevlieg.Spelers van regoor Limpopo het aan die dag se wedstrydedeelgeneem.Lodi Fraser, een van die stigterslede van die WinterveldVeerpyltjie Klub het die hoogste toemaak van die dag gehadmet ‘n 152.George Fraser, ook ‘n stigterslid, het 17 uit 19 wedstrydegewen en ‘n toemaak van 112 gehad. Hy het ook twee keer180’s gegooi.

Die dag se formaat was in ‘n 501 en die uitslae was soosvolg:Die dames het elk 11 wedstryde gespeel. Hulle uitslae: LodiFraser wen 10. Elien Wessels wen 9. Ida Kruger wen 7.Marietha le Roux wen 7. met skietdagDie Bosboktak van die Jagtersvereniging vanSuid Afrika het verlede naweek hul eersteskietdag gehou.Dié tak bedien die Lydenburg, Burgersfort enSteelpoort area en die skietdag is op Lydenburgby die Egbert Hiemstra skietbaan gehou.Die dag was ‘n groot sukses en ‘n klomp nuwegesigte is opgemerk. Daar word nog baieskietdae beplan en hopelik sal al die nuwelingeweer kom deelneem.Die skuts het verlede Saterdag baie goedgeskiet, maar dit was duidelik dat hierdie maardie eerste skietdag van die jaar was. Daar isnog baie plek vir verbetering.Die uitslae was soos volg:

Senior mans: 1ste - Johan Grimbeek, 2de -Jakkie Mellet; 3de - Timo Briedenhann.Dames: 1ste - Lizl Grimbeek, 2de JanineBriedenhann. Juniors: 1ste - Ulrich Stickling.Die volgende skietdag is op 9 Februarie 2013by Ecsal Lodge. (Oorkant Dwarsrivier Myn, opdie pad tussen Steelpoort en Lydenburg). Metdie skietdag daar sal daar Ghonge geskiet wordvan 30 tot 700m en die Bosboktak se bestuurbeloof dat die ervaring vir baie ‘n “eye opener”sal wees.
