SekhukhuneMayor takes oathAfter a 100 days in office, Sekhukhune District MunicipalityExecutive Mayor, Mogobo David Magabe, was officiallyinaugurated during the Mandela Day festivities that took place atJane Furse last week Saturday.
A ceremony officiated by a magistrate, commissioner SFBoshielo, saw Cllr Magaba taking the oath of office (photographleft). His predecessor, Mr Namane Dickson Masemola , who isnow the Limpopo MEC for Education, took part in the ritual ofadorning him with the mayoral chain (photograph bottom left).Mr Masemola also represented Limpopo Premier, Cassel Mathaleat the festivities in Jane Furse.
The programme of the day started early with a large numberof dignitories, including mayors of local municipalities in thedistrict, gathered at the Makhuduthamaga Municipality offices inthe town. The procession then visited several areas in thevicinity, taking part in the cleaning of streets in Jane Furse andjoined other members at Ga-Marishane where a house for adestitute family is constructed. They also went to the Jane FurseMemorial Hospital where wards were visited.
In his speech after his inauguration, the Mr Magaba told thecrowd that his administration is committed to service delivery anddevelopment. He highlighted government projects that is takingplace and announced that the district municipality will launch afree basic service campaign to ensure that people register to haveaccess to free basic services. In dealing with water challenges anew Water Service Department was established on 1 July, whilethe in supplying water to Moutse west of groblersdal, a licencewas obtained to extract a limited amount of water from LoskopDam.
Another structure that was launched on 15 July is the is theSekhukhune District Planning Forum to deal with planningchallenges in the three spheres of government. Other steps thatwere taken are the adoption of a turn around strategy for supplychain management, a policy in respect of contract management,the employment of additional project managers, while the districthas followed the example of big cities in dealing with theseparation of powers between the legislature to enable the councilto play its overseeing role. He also announced the establishmentof a call centre to respond to community queries in line with Batho
Pele priciples, while a committee was also established to overseemunicipal public accounts that takes the form of SCOPA atmunicipal level. The district mayor said commitments have beenmade to ensure that compliance with legislation is a must and notan option. He reiterrrated the leadership in the district’scommitment to ensure that mineral resources in the districtbenefit the people in the area he said that “we will together withall our municipalities establish the Sekhukhune Mining EconomicForum to coordinate all the mining activities in the district”.
He allso announced the formation of the SekhukhuneDevelopment Agency (SDA) and introduced the newly appointedboard to the crowd (bottom photograph). Although an entity ofSekhukhune District Municipality the SDA will be independentlyrun by the board. The main task of the agancy will be to be thedriving force behind economic development in the district withregrds to mining and tourism (especially after the completion ofthe De Hoop Dam). Excecutive Mayor Magaba also announcedthat the district municipality will from now on be known asSekhukhune District Municipality and no longer GreaterSekhukhune District Municipality. This decision was taken afterextensive consultation.

Police do 67 minutesPolice stations in the Burgersfort, Ohrigstad, Praktiseer area, took the 67 minutes campaign on nelsonmandela’s birthday last Saturday seriously and the cluster launched various projects to interact with thecommunity under the leadership of the cluster, Senior Superintendent MJ Mohale of Tubatse PoliceStation.
Supt Mohale, who personally participated in the day’s activities, told and audience at the tribalauthority at Ga-Mashamothane that he is very concerned about the prevalence of domestic violence in thearea. He said it is his resposibility to to provide a safe environment through reactive and preventativepolicing, especially with regard to crimes against women and children, senior citizens and people who aredifferentially abled. he said thiese people are very vulnerable and it is everybody’s collective responsibilityto love and to protect them.
He said a large number of women in the area are found to be in abusive relationships. He urged peopleto stop abusing women and not to expose children to dangerous places such as shebeens or substances suchas alcohol, cigarettes and other drugs. He said the Police are working closely with the tribal authority andhe called on people to give their support in fighting crime to their tibal authorities. Representatives ofseveral structures, as well as the Community Policing Forums were also present.
After his speech at the tribal authority, donation in thre form of blankets and groceries were given tothe needy. Earlier in the day personnel of the Tubatse and Burgersfort Police Stations visited DilokongHospital where the Police whished the ill a speedy recovery and also prayed for sick patients. The rest ofthe day’s programme encompassed door-to-door crime awareness campaigns by the various Police stations.Burgersfort Police Station and Ohrigstad Police Station also donated groceries and fruit (Ohrigstad) to theneedy in their respective communities.

AFGRI, the JSE listed agriculturalbusiness, Wednesday announced thatMGK Bedryfsmaatskappy (Eiendoms)Beperk (“MGK”) acquired 11 of its retailoutlets. These retail branches currentlysupply agricultural products and inputs tofarmers.
Chris Venter, CEO of AFGRI said,“The rationale for the disposal of thesespecific retail outlets is in line withAFGRI’s strategy to exit retail business,which is not part of its identified grainvalue chain or core business. We want toalign the remaining retail outlets with thecore business of AFGRI.”
Venter was complimentary towardsMGK saying that, “We are assured thatthe MGK management philosophy will bein the best interest of farmers in thegeographic areas in which these retailoutlets are situated.”
Ben Lombard, Managing Director ofMGK said that MGK’s management isoptimistic and excited about thetransaction and sees it as an opportunityfor growth in and around irrigation areas.The outlets acquired through thetransaction will strengthen MGK’sstrategic position and market share,especially for its retail division, Obaro.
The transaction affects outlets in Brits,Thabazimbi, Vaalwater, Marble Hall,Groblersdal, Burgersfort, Hoedspruit,Nelspruit, Barberton, Malelane andKomatipoort which are being sold as agoing concern to MGK. Any mechanisationdivision or outlet is specifically excludedfrom the transaction, including but notlimited to the mechanisation outlets atMarble Hall and Malelane.
The purchase consideration includesR47.5 million in respect of the businessesand certain immovable property, plus thevalue of the stock in trade which amountsto approximately R62.5 million. R23.75million is payable directly to AFGRI onthe effective date, and a further R23.75million will be paid into a trust account ofthe attorneys appointed by AFGRI totransfer the immovable propertiespurchased by MGK in terms of theagreement, which will be released on a prorata basis to AFGRI against registrationof the immovable property in the name ofMGK. On the final payment date 40% ofthe value of the stock in trade will bepayable to AFGRI and thereafter 15% ofthe value of the stock in trade will be paidto AFGRI on a monthly basis.
The financial effects of the transactionhave been calculated and have nosignificant effect (i.e. are less than 3%), onAFGRI’s earnings per share, headlineearnings per share, net asset value per
share and net tangible asset value pershare for the year/period ended 30 June2009.
AFGRI and MGK have embarked on aprocess of communicating with branchmanagers of the affected outlets, and atthis stage none of the parties expect thatemployees will be retrenched.
AFGRI does however have a regionaloffice, which is excluded from thistransaction, at which a consultativeprocess with employees is underway asthere may be a requirement to retrenchone or two employees. The transaction issubject to certain conditions precedent,which both MGK and AFGRI are confidentwill be met.
Chris Venter says, “Currently AFGRIis undergoing an entire review of
operations to revert to a core focusexcluding manufacture or production ofprimary agricultural inputs. A strategicdecision has been taken not to participatein retail activities in non-grain growinggeographic areas.”
“Despite the sale of these 11 retailoutlets, the supply of AFGRI’s remainingproducts and services to the farmers willbe unaffected by the transaction,”concludes Venter.

Robbers nabbedOn 21 July 2009 the Police in Tubatse arrested foursuspects aged between 27 and 29 years for armedrobbery, possession of firearm without licence andpossession of suspected stolen properties.
It is alleged that on 21 July 2009 at about 07:30 inthe morning four armed men robbed the driver and thecrew of a bakery truck of their cellphones, two way radioand R700-00. The victims were delivering bread in Ga-Motodi Village outside Praktiseer.
The robbers locked the driver and his assistant inthe back of the truck and drove away with the truck.The vehicle was then left abandoned just fewkilometers away from the scene.
When the police arrived the suspects had alreadyfled. The driver gave the police the description of thesuspects and the description of the vehicle used by thesuspects.
The Police made follow ups in tracing the vehicleand the suspects. A few hours later the Police managedto identify the vehicle in Apiesdoring just outsideBurgersfort.
One of the suspects was shot in the leg when hetook aim and fired at the SAPS member when the
vehicle they were travelling in was stopped and theywere being arrested.
The suspects were found with the vehicle that wasused in committing the robbery. It was found that thevehicle was stolen in Boksburg. The suspects were alsofound in possession of a 9mm pistol with four live roundsof ammunition. Many items such as 5 cellphones, adigital phone, two way radio, video camera, scanner andcash to the amount of R1060-00 were also recovered.
The suspect who was shot was taken to the Dilokonghospital where he passed away a few hours later.
On 22 July 2009 the Police conducted furtherinvestigations and managed to recover another twosuspected stolen motor vehicles including a bakkie thatwas stolen in Tembisa and a Venture which was alsostolen in Boksburg. The vehicles were found in Ga-Motodi village.
The three suspects are expected to appear in thePraktiseer Magistrate court soon on charges of armedrobbery, possession of suspected stolen properties andpossession of fire arm without licence. The StationCommissioner: Senior Superintendent M J Mohaleapplauded the good work done by the members.

Die vrou isook verkrag.Volgens die polisie het die moordenaars die toneel verlaat enlater terug gekeer en die vrou na die pad gesleep en daargelos.Die polisie van Ohrigstad het deur die loop van Maandag enDinsdag leidrade opgevolg en Maandag is een verdagte reedsgearresteer. ‘n Tweede verdagte is Dinsdagoggend in hegtenisgeneem. Beide die mans werk op plase in die omgewing.Die mans sou Woensdag in Lydenburg in die hof verskyn het.Die verwagting was dat die saak uitgestel wou word vir ‘nborgaansoek.

Steelpoort Akademie van 2009Dis ‘n nuwe jaar. ‘n Nuwe begin met splinternuwe kinders. ‘n Opgewondenheid het geheers onder almal. Die ou Steelpoorters sowel asdie nuwe graad 1 kleintjies. Daar was ‘n gees van opgewondenheid wat geheers het in die skool, veral onder ons nuwelinge. Glo dit ofnie, daar was nie eens een traan wat gestort was deur die nuwe maatjies nie. Die mammas het eerder ‘n knop in die keel gehad en ‘ntraantjie gepik.Een blou massa het op die paviljoen bymekaar gekom en saam-saam het ons die nuwe jaar begin met ‘n toepaslike opening met ‘nwonderlik motiverende boodskap. Mnr. Alberts het almal verwelkom - kinders sowel as die nuwe personeel.Welkom juffrouens Anet, Madelein, Makki en Melissa en meneer Thinus.Daarna het al die kinders - baie entoesiasties verdaag na hulle verskeie klasse. Hierdie jaar spog ons met ongeveer 915 leerlinge op dieeerste dag. Die hoërskool begin met graad 10 en die spesifieke leerareas tree in werking.Daar is baie nuwe dinge wat die kinders opgewonde maak. Dis ‘n uitdaging vir elke Steelpoortertjie en personeellid om hierdie jaar aante durf. In dieselfde asem wil ons ook net ons ouers ‘n goeie jaar toewens - dit wat nog nie verby gevlieg het nie! Moet nou nie harderwerk as die kinders nie!

On Thursday 30 April 2009,Steelpoort Academy had to saygoodbye to Marie Jankowitz, who had been teaching at ourschool for one year and four months.All the grade 7 learners were very sad for losing their favouriteEnglish teacher. She was responsible for the media centre andwas the guardian of the 2009 leaders at the school. She alsohelped with several extra-curricular activities.On 25 April last year ,Marie was involved in a terriblemotorcar accident. She miraculously recovered from herinjuries and resumed her duties at the school.Marie accepted a teaching position at Laerskool Lydenburgwhere she had previously teaching for eleven years.We want to thank Marie for her contribution to our school andall the hard work.Steelpoort Academy will miss you!

Blitsopname onder die graad 5 leerlinge:In ‘n opname onder die graad vyfleerders wat gedurende die van 29 Aprilgedoen is het interresante statistiekeaan die lig gekom.Onderwysers loop kopaan kop in die peiling. Redes watleerlinge vir hulle steun aan leerkragtegee,wissel van:’gee goed klas’ tot ‘ons krylekker af periodes’.Die opnames blyk sogewild te wees dat dit in die nabyetoekoms uitgebrei gaan word na diegraad ses en sewe leerders ook.

KOORDie Junior koor oefen gereeld en het reeds twee liedjies aangeleer. Met Juffrou Retha enJuffrou Sally sing die kleintjies die veld aan die brand en hulle eerste optrede sal weesop Hemelvaartdag en in die toekoms nog by die senior sorgsentrum.Die senior koor is ook al baie sterk besig en oefen pligsgetrou. Die kinders is baieentoesiasties en oefen selfs in pouses. Een van die dae tree hulle ook op met ‘nspinternuwe uitrusting.Ja self ons rugby manne sing ‘n hond uit ‘n bos uit.Knap gedaanouens.
BYBELVASVRAEOns leerlinge wat deelneem aan die Bybelvasvrae leer tans kliphard saam met juffrouSally en Retha uit die boek Ester.Die kinders vind dit interresant en geniet dit baie.
REDENAARSOns kulturele aktiwiteite is ook volstoom aan die gang en ons redenaars is al klaar aandie stryd. Rynhardt Gouws en Henk Goosen is gekies as ons twee top redenaars. Hullehet in Middelburg aan die ATKV uitdunrondte deelgeneem en het dit terdeë geniet omte ‘REDENEER’
Kreatiewe koppies
Nooit gedink die dag sou so vinning kom nie.Dit wys jou nethoe snel die tyd verby gaan.Nou die dag was Rina- Lize nog indie skool. Vandag is sy ‘n mamma,nie van een nie maarsommer van twee.’n Pragtige seuntjie met oupa se kuiltjie enwipneus en ‘n dogtertjie so fyn soos ‘n porselein pop.Hoe opgewonde was juffrou Thea toe sy hoor dat sy oumagaan word en Meneer Alberts was sprakeloos. Die maande hetverby gevlieg en voordat hulle hul oë uit kon uitvee was dittyd om Botswana toe te gaan om die wonderwerk te konaanskou, maar nie voordat ouma en oupa ‘n ooievaarsteegehad het nie. Juffrou Thea en Meneer Alberts moes albei ‘nfopspeen suig en’n borslappie dra voordat hulle al die pragtigegeskenkies mag ontvang het.

DieVictor en Victrix Ludorums het gegaan aan Amorey Dreyer enChristiaan Kruger.BY die seniors was dit Anastacia Dube enJason Wentzel.Hierdie jaar het ons Hoërskool in volle swang hulle eie huissportgehad.En was dit pret met baie dinamiese dirigente.Die leerlinghet dit terdeë geniet.Die beste item van die dag sowel as diebeste baan item was verower deur Billy Bronkhorst. Balle, balle, netbal balle. Ja, die dogters isweer in volle swang besig om nog ‘nseisoen aan te pak.En dis hoe hulle die seisoen begin het: Dieo/14’s is ‘n gedugte span soos menigeteenstanders kan getuig. Hulle is baiegeesdriftig en geniet elke oomblik op dienetbalbaan.

DIE RUGBYMANNE
Ons rugbymanne het hierdieseisoen terdeë geniet. Hiermeewil ons graag die volgendeseuns geluk wens met hul puikprestasie. Reghart Cross,André Erasmus, Eduan Jacobsen Dylan Jacobs was al viergekies om in die MpumalangaRugbyspan van 44 seuns tespeel. Daar was aanvanklik1500 seuns om uit te kiesvanaf Secunda, Nelspruit,Witbank en al die ander skolein die streek. Die vier seuns ishuidiglik in die Puma XV tal.
MINI NETBAL EN RUGBYDAGOp Saterdag 9 Mei het die Mini Netbal enRugbydag by Laerskool Lydenburgplaasgevind. Dit was ‘n koue en reënerigedag, maar Steelpoort Akademie seleerlinge het hulle nie laat afskrik nie.Hulle het goed gevaar ten spyte van‘strawwe’ kompetisie en almal het ditterdeë geniet.
Drie leerlinge van Steelpoort Akademiehet gedurende die langnaweek van 24-27April aan die Karate Kampioenskappe inTongaat Kwazulu Natal gaan deelneem.Daar was meer as 200 deelnemers enWerner Spangenberg (gr 10) het ‘n silweren brons medalje ontvang en ManusAldrich (gr 10) het ‘n brons medalje gekry.Rynhardt Spangenberg (gr 5) het ookbesonder goed presteer en ‘n goue medaljegekry.Hulle het gedurende die Julie vakansieaan die wêreldkampioenskappe in Durbandeelgeneem. Reynhardt gaan in Oktoberaan die Suid-Afrikaanse kampioenskappedeelneem en hy hoop om sy springbokkleure te verwerf. Sterkte en ons is trotsop julle!- S. Nel
ANDER SPORT
TOER NA DRAKENSIGDie seisoen het weer afgeskop deur ‘nrugbytoer na Drakensig. Nog ‘nwonderlike geleentheid wat ons leerlingegehad het en dis hoe hulle dit gesien het:Ons het 10:00 vertrek en omtrent 12:00gearriveer. Ons eerste wedstryd was teenPietersburg-Noord. Die seuns het hardgespeel.Die seuns het groot karakter gewys endeur later die middag ‘n ‘kaptein’soefening’ uit te roep en het selfs dieprobleme wat opgeduik het in diewedstryd op hul eie aan te spreek.Die volgende dag het hul vriend en vyandverras deur ‘n groot skool naamlikWitrivier met 28-5 kaf te draf. Welgedaan! Met die tweede wedstryd was onsbietjie rustiger. Sondag was ‘n rusdag enons was almal Swadini toe.Die Maandag het ons teen Phalaborwa-Noord gespeel en die wedstryd oortuigendmet 38-0 gewen. Die Dinsdag was op ‘nhoë noot afgesluit deur Pietersburg-Noordse B-span met 30-10 te verslaan.

Lulu Kolom - nuus van die hoërskool
Hoërskool rugby
Hoewel ons spanne hierdie seisoene gemengde welslae behaalhet,is ons egter baie tevrede met ons 0/14 en ope span.Daar moetin ag geneem word dat ons in meeste gevalle teen baie groterskole gespeel het.Dankie ouens vir julle getrouheid en al dieoefeninge in die middae.
Netbal op Komatipoort
Die dag het al vroegoggend begin en almal was baieopgewonde.Dit was ‘n lang pad en die meeste van ons het maarnog ‘n bietjie slaap ingesit op die bus.Ons het gearriveer opKomatipoort en het sommer dadelik met die dag se aktiwiteitebegin.Twee wedstryde was gespeel en net een was ‘n verlorestryd.Die ander spanne het ook gemengde welslae ervaar.Almalvan ons het dit geniet en die dag was ‘n reuse sukses.Michelle Kruger(graad 10)
Opening van nuwe geboueVier nuwe klaskamers is weereens gebou met diehulp van Samancor. Die nuwe klaskamers ispragtig en die wetenskap laboratorium is ‘n lus vir
die nuuskierige oog. Die geboue is gedurende Aprilformeel geopen met ‘n spesiale funksie en ‘n toer virons weldoeners. Baie, baie dankie!
Die hoërskool leerlinge buite die skool tydens die opening van die nuwe klaskamers.
Nuwe onderwysers
Ons is trots op ons nuwe span raakvatters by die hoërskool. Diedinamiese span bestaan uit: Anet Carstens, Tinus du Toit, MakhiKoopedi en Madeleine Pieterse.
Atletiek
Dit was ‘n heerlike seisoen met uitstekende welslae. Ons het baietalentvolle atlete en is trots op elkeen. Congratulations to Neo, agrade 8 learner who broke many records at the athletics meetingwhich was held in Middelburg.
Netbal & Rugby
Sukses is ook gevind op die netbalbaan en rugbyveld. Eenmaalwas almal dou voordag uit die vere en gereed vir die dag en toe isdie gehuurde bus so ‘n bietjie laat. Desnieteenstaande was dit ‘nsuksesvolle seisoen sover!
Leerlingraad
Die leerlingraad is saamgestel uit graad 10 leerders watdemokraties verkies is. Die leerlingraad word ondersteun deurJuf. Riekie en hulle werk voorwaar hard om die hoërskool in toomte hou. (Dit lyk net so maklik omdat hulle so goed is). Dieleerlingraad spog ook met die mooiste hempies wat spesiaal virhulle gemaak is!
Graad 8 Oriëntering
Die nuwelinge moes weliswaar ‘n rukkie wag, maar dit was deuren deur die moeite werd. Juffrou Colleen het ‘n onvergeetlikeoriënteringsmiddag gereël. Die graad agts spog ook nou metpragtige hempies in elke kleur van die reënboog. Die middag isaangebied deur ‘n professionele spanbou spesialis wat met behulpvan verskeie speletjies en hope pret die graad 8 groepsaamgesnoer het tot ‘n hegte eenheid. Die leerlingraad het ook diegeleentheid gekry om hulle staal te wys deur in beheer te weesvan hulle eie groepie graad 8’s. Juffrou Colleen was die hele tydnaby om toe te sien dat alles seepglad verloop en hulle kuikenshulself terdeë geniet. Die verrigtinge is afgesluit met ‘n liplekkerbraai. Fantasties!
Kultuur
Ons kultuurvereniging is nog in sy babaskoene, maar hou dop:babas groei vinniger as wat ‘n mens mag dink...
Akademie
Akademie is prioriteit nommer 1. Toetse word elke week geskryf.Trek jou sokkies op en leer hard!
Ter afsluiting
Waarom so ver ry en so ver van die huis af bly as daar soveelgeleenthede vir jou hier is? Ons hoërskool is vanuit diegemeenskap vir die gemeenskap! Ons dinamiese, uitersprofessionele onderwysers, pragtige klaskamers, talentvolleleerders en uitkomsgerigte leerplan is definitief ‘n welkomealternatief vir baie ver ry of tuisonderrig. Moenie wag nie, kom nadie skool waar elkeen iemand is.
Die hokkie by Komatipoort was baie stresvol maar lekker.Dit was ons heel eerste wedstryd vir die jaar enons het dalk nie gewen nie,maar het dit geniet.Hulle sê mos dit gaan nie oor wen of verloor nie, solank jydit geniet.- Adri Potgieter Gr 10 A
This day was a very intriguing day. We went to Komatipoort for two simple reasons-RUGBY and aWIN.We were accompanied by the under 14 rugby, hockey and netball teams. We were told to be atschool at 3:30.Well everybody pitched except the bus. Finally after an hour we left. It was a long, butexciting trip. We just made it and on arrival the under 14’s had to play. They did what they came there todo-played rugby. They dominated the first and the second half with no doubt.Neo Malapane wasextraodinary.Then our turn came and we also sealed the deal with Travis scoring a beautiful trie.Ourhockey girls went through some rough patches during the march with Charlotte Mkhonto being hitvarousiously with a hockey stick on her mouth.The netball did not disappoint either.
