Community Planning and Building Monthly Summary July

Attached are the July 2015 activity reports for the Planning Permits, Building

Permits, Encroachment Permits, and Code Compliance Cases.

PLANNING AND BUILDING TRENDS:

In July, 36 Planning Permit, 28 Building Permit, and 17 Encroachment Permit

applications were submitted . A total of 265 Planning Permit, 284 Building Permit,

and 80 Encroachment Permit applications have been submitted this year.

Permit applications continue to be submitted at a consistent rate, with an average

of 38 planning permit and 40 buildings permit applications submitted each month.

Staff is exploring ways to expedite the permit process for minor planning permits

such as fence repairs, landscaping, and site coverage alterations.

CODE COMPLIANCE TRENDS:

For Code Compliance, City staff fielded a total of 40 code compliance requests.

DIRECTOR ACTIVITES

• On August 10 2015 the Acting Planning Director issued an Emergency

Coastal Permit for the moratorium on beach fires and associated signage .

• A public workshop was held for the Housing Element update on August

19 2015. The Planning Commission was in attendance and provided

comments on the Draft Housing

Element.

NOTES:

The City has entered into a contract with CSG Consultants Inc to provide code

compliance staffing services. A contract code compliance officer Randy Sweet

began working with the City on August 5 2015. The compliance officer will work

approximately 12-16 hours per week assisting with code compliance issues.

A new full-time assistant planner Catherine Tarone is scheduled to begin work

with the City on September 1 2015.
