APD Notables...Field Services BureauSoutheast Area Command...• OnJanuary4,OfficerBartlettarrestedaman

foranoutstandingfelonywarrant.Afterplacingthemaleunderarrest,OfficerBartlettfoundthatthemanhadseveralbagsofmethamphetamineintherimofhishat.Themanwasnotonlyarrestforhisfelonywarrantbutalsobookedfortraffickingacontrolledsubstance.

• OnJanuary11,OfficerLueckenhoffconductedatrafficstop.Officersmadecontactwithafemaledriver.Thevehiclehadastrongodorofmarijuanacomingfrominsidethevehicle.Afterfurtherinvestigation,officersfoundoverapoundofmarijuanainthevehicle.Thefemalewasarrestedfortraffickingmarijuana.

• OnJanuary19,OfficerA.Leewasdispatchedtoahospitalinreferencetoadomesticincidentthatoccurred.Thevictimhadbeenknockeddownandhelddownuntilsheblackedout.OfficerLeewasabletolocatetheoffenderandtakehimintocustody.Hewaschargedwithaggravatedbatteryonahouseholdmember.

• OnJanuary19,OfficerJ.Friedfertigwasdispatchedtoahomeinvasionatanortheastlocation.A72yearoldfemale’shomewasvictimizedbytwounknownmales.Shewasabletoescapefromthehomewithouttheintrudersknowingshewaseverinside.Shehidoutsideinthebushesforapproximatelyonehourwhilethesubjectransackedherhomeandstolehervehicleastheleft.

• OnJanuary29,OfficerT.Tixierarrestedanoffenderforunlawfultakingofamotorvehicleandaggravatedfleeingofanofficer.OfficerTixierstoppedthevehicle,anduponmakingcontactwiththedriver,hefledfromOfficerTixieratahighrateofspeed.Afterrunningastopsign,thedriverabandonedthevehicleandfledonfoot.OfficerTixierpursuedthedriverandtookhimintocustody.

• OnJanuary9and10,theSoutheastImpactTeamconductedaproactivetacticalplanthatincludedcontactingpotentialvictimsofautotheft.SoutheastImpactTeamdetectivesmadecontactwithvehicleownersthatwerewarminguptheirvehiclesearlyinthemorning;warningthemofthepotentialriskofleavingtheirvehiclesunattendedwhilethekeyswereintheignition.Duringthetwodayoperation,detectivesmadecontactwithapproximately30potentialvictims.Thecontactsweremadeinneighborhoodsin

effortstostifleautotheftsintheSoutheastAreaCommand.

• OnJanuary18,SergeantJ.BurkewascontactedbyaconcernedcitizenthatasubjectonthepropertycrimesmostwantedlistwasobservedintheareaofCentralandSanPedro.TheconcernedcitizenrecognizedthesubjectfromtheinsertintheAlbuquerqueJournal,andcalledSergeantBurke.OfficerJ.DearandDetectiveP.Moyaarrivedintheareaandwereabletotakethesuspectintocustody.Thesuspectattemptedtoconcealhisidentitybyusingafriend’sname,butthenamewasreturnedwithseveralfelonywarrantsoutofRoswell,NM.Thesuspectprovidedhistruenameanddateofbirthonceherealizedthatheonlyhadonewarrantcomparedtohisfriend’scopiousamountofwarrants.Thesuspectwasbookedonthefelonywarrantforburglary.

• TheSoutheastProblemResponseTeamwasconductingpatrolsinBeat335whentheyobservedasedanthatwasdisplayingastolenlicenseplate.ThevehiclewasfollowedtoaconveniencestorewherePRTofficerswaitedforthevehicletopark.Oncethevehiclewasparked,officersquicklycontactedthefouroccupantsofthevehicleandtheywereallplacedincustody.Oneofthepassengerswasfoundtobe15yearsofage.TheVINwasrunthroughNCICandthevehiclewasdeterminedtobestolen.Asearchofthevehiclewasconductedandofficerslocatedthreestolenfirearms.Alsoinsidethevehicleofficerslocatedasmallbaggyofmethamphetamine.

• TheSoutheastProblemResponseTeam(PRT)wasintheareaofCentralandCharlestonwhentheyobservedafourdoorsedanparkedatalocalmotel.OfficersdidahistorycheckonthevehicleanditwasdeterminedthatithadbeentakenatgunpointonDecember27,2013fromtheowner’sfriend.WiththeassistanceoftheRTCC,SoutheastPRTofficerswereabletocontacttheowner’smotherwholatercontactedtheownerandfoundthatthevehiclehadnotbeenreturnedtohimbyhisfriend.SoutheastPRTandpatrolunitsfollowedthevehicletoaconveniencestorewheretheoccupantsofthevehiclewerecontactedandplacedincustody.Thevehiclewasreturnedandthedriverofthevehiclewasarrested.Abackgroundonthedriverrevealedthathehadacriminalhistoryofmurderinthe1stdegree,manslaughter,childabuse,aggravatedbattery,robberywithadeadly

onmultiplecharges.• OnJanuary23,OfficerB.Aragonwason

randompatrolinahotspotareaoflikelycriminalactivity,includingpropertycrimes.Ashecheckedthearea,henoticedasuspiciouslookingmalesubjectwalkinginthearea.Hestoppedandinitiatedaconsensualencounterwiththesubject.Thesubjectadvisedtheofficersthathehadwarrants.OfficerAragoncalledforanotherunitforbackup,thenranthesubjectthroughNCIC.Thesuspectwasfoundtohavemultiplefelonywarrantsforhisarrest.HewasalsodeterminedtobeoneofAPD’smostwantedpropertycrimeoffenders.

• Officersimplementedametalthefttacticalplanatalocallibrary.Twocoppertheftsoccurredatthelocationinashorttimeperiodwhichpromptedthetacticalplan.Fieldbriefingswereconductedatthesite,aswellasdirectedpatrolthatresultedinstoppingthemetaltheftsandsuspiciousactivityinJanuary.

• AtacticalplanatHotelCircleNEtargetedcriminalandsuspiciousactivity.Theinitiativeresultedin10contacts,oneDWIarrest,andidentificationoftwocoppertheftsuspects.

• SergeantD.BacawasintheareaofTramwayandWenonahwhenheobservedsubjectsplacingitemsintotheirvehicle’strunk.ThevehiclelefttheparkinglotandSergeantBacaconductedatrafficstop.AnearbybusinesshadbeenburglarizedanditemsfromthebusinesswerelocatedinthevehiclestoppedbySergeantBaca.Asecondmalehadleftthesceneonfootandleftitemsfromthebusinessinanearbybackyard.ThesuspectstoppedbySergeantBacawasarrestedforcommercialburglary.TheinvestigationwasturnedovertotheBurglaryUnitforfollowupandidentificationofthesecondsuspect.

• OnJanuary14,OfficersT.JacoboandH.Gundersonobservedametalthief.AsOfficersJacoboandGundersonattemptedtoinitiateatrafficstopoftheoffender,herammedOfficerGunderson’smarkedpatrolunitandfledofficersonfoot.Duringthechase,theoffenderbrokeintotwohouses,andbarricadedhimselfinthesecondhouse.Officerssetupaperimeteronthesecondhouseandwereabletogettheoffenderintocustodywithoutincident.Theoffenderwaschargedwithaggravatedassaultonapoliceofficer,possessionofnarcoticswiththeintenttodistribute,feloninpossessionofafirearm,possessionofstolenproperty,andresidential3

weapon,falseimprisonment,andautoburglary.• SoutheastImpactTeamdetectivesconductedan

operationintheareaofMadeiraSEandRossSE.Duringtheoperation,amalesubjectwasobservedlookingintovehicleswhileoperatingabicycleatnightwithoutaforwardfacinglight.ContactwasattemptedwiththesubjectbyDetectiveGarciaandassistingdetectives.Thebikeriderbegantoactivelyeludeofficersonfoot.Thesuspectwasseenthrowingitemshewascarrying,includingabackpackandotheritems.Hewastakenintocustodyandwasinpossessionofa.22caliberbullet.Afterrecoveringitemsthemanhadthrown,a.22caliberhandgunwasfoundonthegroundnexttohisbackpack.Thesuspectlaterstatedhewasinpossessionofthehandgunwhilerunningawayfromofficers.

Foothills Area Command...• OfficersM.ReederandP.Martinwere

dispatchedtoapriorityonedomesticdisputecall.Thecalleradviseddispatchthatherdaughter’sex-boyfriendwasattemptingtobreakintotheresidence.Whileofficerswereenroute,thecalleradvisedthattheboyfriendhadfledandthatherdaughterhadchasedafterhim.Thecalleradvisedthattheboyfriendhadbeenviolentinthepastandthreatenedherandherdaughterwithaknifebefore.TheRTCCadvisedthattheboyfriendhadmultiplefelonywarrantsforhisarrest.Officerssearchedtheneighborhoodfortheboyfriend.Whileofficerswerecheckingthearea,themotherofthegirlfriendflaggedthemdown.Shereportedtotheofficersthatshesawtheboyfriendontheroofofanearbymiddleschool.OfficersReederandMartinarrivedattheschoolandcouldseetheboyfriendontheroof.TheAirSupportUnitassistedinsearchingthearea.Theywereabletokeepavisualaccountoftheboyfriend.SeveralothermembersofTeam7arrivedonsceneandbegantosetupaperimeteronthebuilding.Duringthistime,OfficersReederandMartinwerecontinuallyattemptingtotalktotheboyfriendwithoutanysuccess.Afteralmostanhour,Metro1advisedthattheboyfriendwasmovingtoanareawherehecouldjumpoff.Shortlyafter,theboyfriendjumpedofftheroofandattemptedtorunawayfromofficers.Hewascaughtandtakenintocustodyasheattemptedtojumpachainlinkfenceonthenorthendoftheschoolgrounds.HewasbookedintotheMDC

burglary.

Valley Area Command...• OfficerGomezinitiatedatrafficstopona

vehicle.Afterspeakingwiththedriver,herequestedthepresenceofaDWIUnitofficer.ThedriverwasarrestedforDWI.Duringaninventorysearchofthevehicle,OfficerGomezlocatednarcoticsandothermaterialsthatsuggestedthattheoffenderwastraffickingillegalsubstances.Thesubjectwasarrestedfortrafficking,negligentuseofafirearm,andtheDWIcharge.

• OfficerJ.ArnoldwasonrandompatrolwhenheobservedasuspiciousvehiclethatcontinuedtocircletheDowntownDistrict.Unsurewhattheoccupantswereupto,OfficerArnoldproceededtorunacheckonthevehiclethroughNCICatwhichtimethevehiclecamebackwithahitindicatingthatthevehiclewasstolen.OfficerArnoldproceededtofollowthevehicleandprovidedtheinformationalongwithhislocationtodispatch.AsOfficerArnoldwasawaitingthearrivalofassistingofficersinordertoengagethevehicle,thedriverbecameawareofhispresenceandimmediatelypulledover.Theoccupantsthenexitedthevehicleandattemptedtofleeonfoot.OfficerA.Herpolsheimer,whowasmonitoringtheeventandwasenroutetoassist,pulledupjustastheoccupantswerefleeingthearea.Bothofficersissuedverbalcommandsandwereabletotakethesubjectsintocustodywithoutincident.AfterconsultingwithanAutoTheftdetective,OfficerArnoldreleasedtheadditionaltwooccupantsandbookedthedriverforreceivingandtransferringastolenmotorvehicle.

• OfficerFuchswastheprimaryrespondingofficeronastabbingcallat3rdandCentralAveonJanuary18.Duringtheincident,amalewasstabbedatleastsixtimesinhistorso.Hisinjuriesincludedapuncturedlung,astabwoundtothehead,andapuncturedliver.Foursuspectsweretakenintocustodyaftertwoeludedpoliceonfoot.

• OfficersM.ElrickandR.CarlsonwereonrandompatrolnearBroadwayandLomas.Theysawasuspiciousvehicleparkedinbackofafastfoodrestaurant.Astheywalkedup,theycouldseeamalesubjectinjectingnarcoticsintohisarm.Assoonashesawthem,herevvedthevehicleanddroveawayatahighrateofspeed.Heendedupcrashingintothesideofthe

restaurant.Hethenexitedthevehicleandfledonfoot.OfficerElrickcaughtuptohimandplacedhimunderarrestwithoutincident.Hewasinpossessionofnarcoticsandfoundtohavetwofelonywarrantsissuedforhisarrest.

• OfficerL.Acostarespondedtoafamilyfightcallwhereamaleoffendershotintoanoccupieddwelling.Theoffenderleftbeforepolicearrived,butduringtheinvestigationOfficerL.Acostawasabletodetermineanaddressthattheoffendermaybelocated.Officerswereabletotaketheoffenderintocustody.Theoffenderwaschargedwithtwofeloniesandthefirearmthatwasusedinthecrimewasrecovered.

• OfficerD.Bacarespondedtoacallregardingthreesubjectsthatwereholdingupsignsatahighwayinterchangetocollectmoneyforafuneral.OfficerD.Bacaconductedaninvestigationofthesubjects,sinceAPDhadreceivedcallsinthepriorweekregardingthesamesubjectsatadifferentlocation.Duringtheinvestigationitwasdiscoveredthatthesubjectsadmittedtopolicethatthefuneralwasascamandtheywereusingittocollectmoneyfromthepublic.Allthreesubjectswerearrestedforfraudandtwowarrantswerecleared.

• OfficerL.Acostarespondedtodomesticviolencecall.Beforehearrived,themaleoffenderhadlefttheresidence.Duringtheinvestigationitwasdiscoveredthattherewerefelonychargesagainsttheoffender.Avictim’sadvocatewascalledoutandotherofficerssearchedthearea,butcouldnotlocatethesuspect.OnceOfficerL.Acostalefttheresidence,APDreceivedacallthatthesuspectcamebackandsetthevictim’svehicleonfire.Again,heleftbeforepolicearrived.OfficerC.Knightwenttoalocalbusinessdownthestreetandreviewedtheirsurveillancevideowhichshowedtheoffenderwalkingtowardtheparkingareacarryingagallonofgasolinewhichwasrecoveredinthefirebythearsoninvestigator.ValleyImpactTeamdetectiveswerecalledtoassistandafelonywarrantwasissuedforthesuspect.

• OnJanuary9,detectivesrespondedtoafamilyfightwherethesuspectfiredshotsintothevictim’shouseandfledthescene.Thesubjectwasfoundandtakenintocustody.Thegunwasseizedandalargequantityofmethamphetaminewasalsoseized.ThesuspectisaconvictedfelonanddetectivesareworkingwiththeATFtopursuefederalcharges.

• OnJanuary10,ImpactTeamdetectivesarrestedtwoindividualsforpossessionofheroinandtamperingwithevidence.Fourteengramsofheroinwasseized.Onesubjecthadtwofelonywarrantsandonemisdemeanorwarrant.

• OnJanuary15,asurveillancevideowasfeaturedonChannel13newswhichshowedafemalebreakingintoavehicleparkedataresidenceandremovingproperty.ImpactTeamdetectivesobservedthevideoandwereabletoidentifytheoffender.TheoffenderhasahistoryofpropertycrimesandfrequentstheValleyAreaCommand.Thenextday,swingshiftofficersanddetectiveslocatedtheoffenderandtookherintocustody.Shealsohadanadditionalfelonywarrantforherarrest.

Southwest Area Command...• OnJanuary2,officersweredispatchedtoa

vacanthouseregardingavandalismcall.Thecallerstatedthatanunknownmalewasparkedoutsideandmayhaveenteredthevacanthouse.Officerscontactedthemalesubjectandlearnedthathehadanoutstandingmisdemeanorwarrantforhisarrest.Asearchofthesubjectyieldedmarijuana,methamphetamine,andaglasspipe.Hewasarrestedforpossessionofmethamphetamine.

• OnJanuary9,Southwestofficersweredispatchedtoalargeretailerregardingashopliftingcall.Uponarrivingatthescene,theyfoundthatstorelosspreventionstaffhaddetainedonesuspect.Officerswereabletodeterminethesuspect’struename.Itwasdeterminedthatthesuspecthadbeenarrestedtwicebeforeforshopliftingandhadbeengivenatrespassnotificationfromthelocation.Officersbookedthesuspectforcommercialburglary.

• OnJanuary17,officersweredispatchedtoanalarmcall.Uponarrivingatthescene,officersfoundthedoorstothehouseopen.Officersclearedthehousetomakesurenoonewashidinginside.Uponenteringthehouse,officerssmelledastrongodorofmarijuana.Officersfoundover50marijuanaplantsinallstagesofgrowth.ThehomeownerswereidentifiedandthecasewasturnedovertotheNarcoticsUnit.Themarijuanawastaggedintoevidence.

• OnJanuary13,OfficersD.SanchezandF.Duranweredispatchedtoasouthwestlocationinresponsetoadomesticdispute.OfficerSanchezmadecontactwiththevictimwhotoldhimherhusbandputherinachokehold

anddraggedheroutside.Thesuspectpickedupahammerandhelditoverhisheadasiftostrikethevictim.Thevictimwasabletogetawayfromthesuspectandruninsidethehouse.Thesuspectfollowedherinsideandgrabbedthevictimsheadandpoundeditagainstthecountertop.Thevictim’s14-year-oldsontriedtointervene,butthesuspectpushedandkickedthesonaway.Thevictimtoldofficersthatthesuspecthasbeenanongoingproblem,thatthesuspectwasstalkingher,andrecentlythreatenedtokillherifshecontactedpolice.Thevictimwastransportedtothehospitaltobetreated.Thesuspectwasnotpresentwhenofficersarrivedonscene.Victim’sadvocatesarrivedatthehospitalandobtainedanemergencyorderofprotection.Officersattemptedtolocatethesuspectinthearea.OfficerM.Chavezstoppedavehicleforanincorrectlicenseplate.OfficerDuranwasintheareaandstoppedtoassistOfficerChavezonthecarstop.OfficerDuranrecognizedthevehicleanddriverinreferencetoarecentrobberyatanearbygasstation.TheRobberyUnitwascontactedandadetectivecametointerviewthesuspect.Thesuspectwasultimatelyarrestedfordomesticviolence,aggravatedassaultonahouseholdmember,aggravatedbatteryonahouseholdmember,kidnapping,residentialburglary,andchildabusewithoutgreatbodilyharm.

• OnJanuary7,ImpactTeamdetectivesrespondedtoassistfieldunitsinlocatinganoffenderwhohadcommittedahomeinvasion.Detectivesassistedinsaturatingtheareaofthelastknownlocation.DetectivesChavezandZambranosawtwomaleswalkingonCentral,andstoppedtotalktothem.Thesuspectsappearednervousandweredetainedforidentification.Bothsuspectswerepositivelyidentifiedastheoffenders.

• OnJanuary13,ImpactTeamdetectiveswerenotifiedthataCityyardhadpropertystolenbyanunknownmaleoffenderinatruck.Theoffenderhadtakentwometalbusseatsandscrapmetalandfledthearea.TheoffenderstruckagainonJanuary14and27.DetectivesPiattandChaveztrackedthevehicletoalocationaroundBridgeandGoffandwereabletohavefieldofficersstopthevehicle.Thedriverwaschargedwithlarcenyover$2,500.

• OpenSpaceUnitofficerslogged1,321hoursofpatroloneverythingfromfootandvehiclepatroltoATV,bikeandHovercraft.OpenSpaceofficersissued179misdemeanorcitations

rangingfromlittering,animalrestraint,glasscontainers,illegalcamping,parking,andtrafficviolations.OpenSpaceofficersattendedcommunityeventsandmadesignificantcontactswith996visitorstoopenspaceareas.

• OfficersintheHorseMountedUnithadapproximately1,000citizen/businesscontactsthroughoutJanuarywhileonneighborhoodpatrolsandatcommunityeventswhichwerequiteextensiveduringtheholidayseason.

Northwest Area Command...• OnJanuary4,Northwestofficerswere

dispatchedtoarestauranttoinvestigateareportbyafemale.Thefemaleclaimedshehadbeentiedupbyherparentstopreventherfromleavingherresidence.Officerscontactedherparentsanddeterminedthatshewasrestrainedbecausethefemalehadcausedsignificantdamagetotheirresidence.Thefemalewassubsequentlyarrestedfordomesticviolenceandfoundtobeinpossessionofover30gramsofcrack cocaine.

• OnJanuary16,officersweredispatchedtoadomesticviolencecallinwhichtheoffender,washavingmentalhealthissuesandwashearingvoices.Theoffenderbecameviolentandattackedhisfather.Theoffenderstruckhisfatherintheheadseveraltimeswithagolfclub,resultinginafracturedskull.Theoffenderfledthescene,butwaslocatedintheareaandwassubsequentlybookedintotheMDC.

• OnJanuary20,OfficerAlvidrezwasdispatchedtoanorthwestlocationtoinvestigateacallfromaneighborthatheardachildcallingforhelp.Uponarrival,officerscouldhearachildinsidetheresidencecallingforhelp.Officersenteredtheresidenceandfoundamanincapacitatedinsideoneofthebedrooms.Thechildwasfoundunharmedandwascallingforhisparentstohelphimusetherestroom.Officerssecuredtheresidence,anddiscoveredthatthemanwasinpossessionofafirearm.Thefirearmwaslocatedinhiswaistbandduringapatdown.Furtherinvestigationdeterminedthatthemanwasaconvictedfelonandhewasplacedunderarrest.Subsequenttoarrest,hewasfoundtobeinpossessionmethamphetamine.

• OfficerDanielWebsterwasselectedastheAPDUniformedOfficeroftheYearfor2013.

• OnJanuary4,OfficerWebsterconductedatrafficstop.OfficerWebsteridentifiedthedriverandthejuvenilepassengerashavingmultiple

outstandingfelonywarrants.Subsequenttoarrest,OfficerWebsterlocatedfourgramsofcocaine,fourgramsofhallucinogenicmushrooms,anddrugtraffickingparaphernalia.

• TheNorthwestImpactTeamwascalledouttoalocalrestaurantinresponsetoadisturbance.DetectiveslearnedthataBorderPatrolagenthadusedhisduty-issuedfirearmtoremovehisex-wifefromtherestaurant.DetectivestrackedthevictimtoahouseinRioRancho,wheretheoffenderwasarrested.Detectivesrecoveredtheweaponusedandarrestedtheagentforunlawfullycarryingafirearmintoaliquorestablishment.

Northeast Area Command...• TeamOne’sPOPstrategyforJanuarywasto

saturatethemotelsalongMenaul.Officershadcontinuallybeendispatchedtothemotelsinresponsetoautoburglaries.TeamOneofficerspatrolledallthemotelsintheareaandmadecontactwithcitizensandbusinessowners.Theeffortresultedinfourhandicapparkingcitations,anditreducedthenumberofreportstakenatthemotelsinthisarea.

• OnJanuary8,OfficerLundconductedsurveillancewiththehelpofNortheastImpactTeamdetectivesonapossiblestolenvehicle.Oncethevehiclewasmobile,OfficerLundconductedatrafficstopduetothevehiclehavingastolenplatedisplayed.Occupantsofthevehiclewerearrested,andthevehiclewasconfirmedtobestolenfromofTexas.Aninventoryofthestolenvehicleincludedalaptop.Uponobtainingasearchwarrantofthelaptop,numerouswhitecollarinformationtoothervictim’sidentities.Officerslocatedapproximately15victims.

• OnJanuary23,OfficerA.CookassistedtheRobberyUnitinthearrestoftwoindividualsinvolvedinacarjackingfromtheNorthwestAreaCommand.OfficerCookwasalsoresponsibleforthemajorityoftheaccomplishmentsintheBeat431tacticalplan,makingtwofelonyarrests,onemisdemeanorarrest,andseizingtwovehicles.

• OnJanuary31,OfficerL.NeilandotherofficersfromTeam4respondedtoahouseinBeat413.Theoffenderinsidehadthreefelonywarrantsforhisarrest.WhileOfficerL.Neilattemptedtomakecontactwiththeoffenderatthefrontofthehouse,hefledoutoftheback.Officersquicklysetupasmallperimeter.OtherassetsincludingAirSupportandK-9responded.Aftertwohourstheoffenderwaslocatedonarooftoptwohousesaway.

• OfficerLucerorespondedtoafightinprogresscallwhereonemalesubjecthadhitanothermaleinthefacewithalargebrick,causingsignificantinjuries.Anearbycitizenstoppedtheoffenderanddetainedhimuntilofficersarrived.Thecitizenlikelypreventedthevictimfrombeingkilled.OfficerLuceroarrestedtheoffenderonfelonyaggravatedbatterycharges.

• OfficersGreerandRauchweredispatchedtoashopliftingcallwheresubjectswereattemptingtostealalargeamountoftelevisionsfromalargeretailer.OfficersGreerandRauchlocatedthevehicleandattemptedtostopit.Thedriverfled,butimmediatelycrashedthevehicleintoanunoccupiedhome.Thedriverwasbookedonfelonycharges.Itwaslaterlearnedthatthesameoffenderwasalsostealingtelevisionsfromseveralotherretailersintheareacommand.

• NorthwestImpactTeamdetectivesweredispatchedasuspiciouspersoncall.Thecalleradvisedthatamalesubjectwaslookinginthroughherwindowsandknockingonherneighbor’sdoor.OfficerBorundaarrivedonsceneandobservedamalesubjectridingawayfromthelocationonabicycle.Theofficerattemptedastop,butthemalecontinuedtopedalawayandeventuallyranonfootintoanearbyhouse.ImpactTeamdetectivescontactedthemalesubjectinsidethehouseandarrestedhim.Themalesubjectwasidentifiedandhadthreefelonywarrantsforhisarrest.Theoffender’sbackpackcontaineditemscommonlyusedtocommitautoandresidentialburglaries.

• TheNewMexicoDNAIdentificationSystem(NMDIS),received828newconvictedoffender/arresteeDNAsamplesinJanuary,withacumulativetotalofnearly96,500collected.734sampleswereanalyzed,datauploadedandsearchedinCODIS,withacumulativetotalofover90,000searchableDNAprofiles.Asaresultoftheconvictedoffender/arresteesamples,41unsolvedcaseswerematchedtoconvictedoffenders/arrestees,sevencase-to-casematchesweremade,witharesultingtotalof44investigationsbeingaided.

Property Crimes Division...• OnJanuary13,theAutoTheftUnitconducted

anoperationintheSouthwestAreaCommand.Detectiveslocatedanactivestolenvehicle.Theunitsetupsurveillanceonthevehicleandashorttimelatertwosubjectsenteredthevehicleandattemptedtoleavethearea.Theyweretakenintocustody.Whilesearchingoneoftheoffenders,detectiveslocatedabagofmethamphetamine.Detectivesalsolearnedthathehadbeenseenpullingatrailerearlierinthemorningwhiledrivingthestolenvehicle.7

DetectivesalsodiscoveredthatafemalevictimtravelingtoCaliforniahadstoppedatalocalhotelandhadreportedhertrailerasstolen.Detectiveswereabletolocatethestolentrailerandtwoadditionalstolenvehicles.Thevehiclesandallofthestolenpropertywerereturnedtothevictims.Evidencefoundlinkedallthestolenvehiclesandtrailerstothetwooffenders.BothwerebookedintotheMDC.

• OnJanuary7,theAutoTheftUnitconductedanautotheftoperationintheSoutheastAreaCommand.Duringtheoperation,theunitlocatedanactivestolentruck.Surveillancewassetuponthevehicleandashorttimelateramaleandfemaleenteredthevehicle.Unitdetectiveswereabletotakebothintocustody.BothsuspectsadmittedtoknowingthevehiclewasstolenandwerealsofoundtobeinpossessionofastolenUNMcomputer.UNMPolicearrivedandtookpossessionofthecomputer.ThetruckwasreturnedtotheownerandthetwosuspectswerebookedintotheMDC.

• OnJanuary31,theAutoTheftUnitwasconductinganoperationintheValleyAreaCommand.Whileconductingpatrol,unitdetectiveslocatedastolenvehicleinaparkinglot.Surveillancewasthensetuponthevehicleandashorttimelateramaleandayoungchildwalkedoutandgotintothevehicle.Detectiveswereabletoplacetheadultmaleintocustody.Asearchyieldedanounceofmethamphetamineandanassaultrifle.Duringaninterview,theoffenderadmittedtoknowingthevehiclewasstolenandwasonlytryingtotakehissontoschool.TheoffenderwasbookedintotheMDC.

• OnJanuary29,officersweredispatchedtoasoutheastlocationinresponsetoahomeinvasioncall.BurglaryUnitdetectiveswerealsointheareaandrespondedtothecalltoassistintheinvestigation.An84yearoldmalestatedthathewasasleepinthesouthwestbedroomofhishomewhenhewokeupandfoundtwounknownmalesinhishouse.Oneofthemaleswasholdingalargeblackrevolverthatwaspointedathishead.Theownersaidthatthesuspectswentthroughhiswalletandransackedhishouse.Thebackdoortothegaragewaskickedin.Therewasalsoabrokenwindowattherearoftheresidence.Theowneradvisedthatthemalesheldhimagainsthiswillforapproximatelyonehour.Oneofthemalesgrabbedacordfromaradioandtriedtotiehishandstogetherwhile

holdinghimdown.Theownerwasabletostopthemalefromtyinghishandstogether.Atthatpoint,themaletookthecordandtriedtoputitaroundtheowner’sneck.Theownerbelievedthemalewastryingtostranglehimwiththecord.Themalesthentookthekeystotheowner’svehicle.OnJanuary30,detectiveswereforwardedaCriminalisticsLatentFingerprintReportfromAPDFingerprintAnalystK.Rubiwhichidentifiedoneoftheoffenders.Basedontheinformation,detectiveswroteandobtainedanarrestwarrantfortheoffender.OnFebruary1,hewasarrestedintheSoutheastAreaCommand.

• OnJanuary7,officersweredispatchedtoasouthwestlocationinreferencetoaresidentialburglary.Whileenroutetothecall,dispatchadvisedthatthevictimwasfollowingtheoffendersneartheareaofSunsetGardensandTownsend.Thevictimadvisedthatwhenhecametoworkonthehousehefoundthefrontdoorhadbeendamagedandtherewasamalesubjectpullingacompressoranddrilloutofthefrontdoor.Thevictimconfrontedtheoffenderwhowenttothefrontdoorandyelledforeveryonetogetout.Fourothersubjectsranoutofthehousecarryingseveralbagsandaredtoolbox.Detectivesobservedthreemalesandtwofemaleswalkingandapproachedtheindividualsintheircars.Astheydidthis,oneoftheindividualsthrewanobjectoverawoodenfenceintoabackyard.Thevictimpositivelyidentifiedthesubjectsasthepeoplethatbrokeintohisresidenceandstolehisproperty.Duringinterviews,allofthesubjectsadmittedtotheburglary.

• WhileworkingtheNobHillTacticalPlan,detectivesobservedamalesubjectvandalizingbusinesseswithspraypaint.TheoffenderwastakenintocustodyandconfessedtotaggingbusinessesalongCentralAvenue.OthermembersoftheBurglaryUnitconfirmednumeroussitesandeachindividualbusinesswascontactedandareportwasgenerated.ThecasewascompiledandsubmittedtotheDistrictAttorney.32differentbusinesseswerevandalizedfromSanMateotoGirard.

• OnJanuary15,aCitytrailerwasdeployedinthesoutheastareaofthecitywithcitypropertyinit.Amangotintothetrailerandtookthecityproperty.Hewastrackedtohisresidence.Detectiveslocatedthemanashewasgoingbackandforthtothevehiclethathehadputthestolen

propertyin.Detectivesattemptedtoarrestthemanbutheresistedandhadtobetasedinordertotakehimintocustody.Theoffenderwasonfederalprobationforbankrobbery.

• OnJanuary22,amaleandfemalebrokeintoaCity-ownedvehicle.Themaleattemptedtostealthecarbybreakingthesteeringcolumn.HealsodamagedtheconsolebeforetheystoleaCity-ownedlaptopthatwasinthevehicle.Theyweretrackedandlocatedinthefoothillsparkedbehindanapartmentcomplex.Bothsubjectswerearrestedandbooked.

• CNAUdetectivesmadenumerousarrestsinJanuary,includingsomehighlynotedpropertycrimeoffenders,oneofwhichwaswantedforthreefelonywarrantsforburglary.Hewaslocatedandarrestedonthewarrantsalongwithpossessionofheroin.TheinformationofthisarrestwasalsopassedalongtoCYFDduetothreechildrenbeingintheoffender’scustodyduringthetimeofapprehension.Thepropertymanagementwasalsomadeawareoftheincidentduetotheoffenderlivingonthepremisesandnotbeingonthelease.

• CNAUDetectivesconductedatacticalplaninBeat523oftheFoothillsAreaCommand.ThebeathasconsistentlybeenapropertycrimeshotspotasdeterminedbyCrimeAnalysis.Duringthetacticalplan,twoindividualswithfelonywarrantswerelocatedandarrested.Detectivesissuedsixcitations.Threenewproblempropertieswereidentified.ThemanagementofanapartmentcomplexwascontactedtofollowuponafelonywarrantmadethesamedaybyROPUnitdetectives.

• OrganizedCrimeUnit(OCU)detectivesidentifiedtwooffendersutilizingstolencreditcardinformationandsubsequentlyopennumerousfraudulentaccountsatretailstoresthroughoutthemetroarea.Thepairwereabletodefraudthestoresforover$2,000.OCUdetectiveslocatedandarrestedbothsubjects.

• FoothillsAreaCommandofficersandOrganizedCrimeUnitdetectivesapprehendedamaninreferencetonumerouswalkout/pushoutsatstoresinAlbuquerqueandSantaFe.Hewasprimarilyselectingcomputers,securityDVRsystems,DVDs,televisions,andotherelectronicequipment.Thetotalvalueoftheftsexceeded$12,000.Themanadmittedtofencingthemerchandiseonthestreet.

• SouthwestAreaCommandofficersandOCUdetectivesapprehendedtwofemalesandamale

forfraudaftertheyattemptedtocashastolencheckintheamountof$839.Asearchwarrantservedontheirvehicleandpersonalcellphonesresultedintherecoveryofstolenpersonalinformationtoincludedriver’slicensesandsocialsecuritycards.

• OCUdetectivesinitiatedsurveillanceatasouthwestlocationandsubsequentlycontactedasuspectwhohadbeenidentifiedasaMostWantedPropertyCrimeOffender.Thesuspecthadsevenoutstandingfelonywarrantsforpropertycrimeanddrug-relatedoffensesandtwomisdemeanorwarrantsforassault.Withinafourmonthperiod,thesuspectwasresponsibleformultiplepropertycrimescommittedagainstnumerousretailsectorpartners.Thevalueofthepropertytakeninthesecrimesexceeded$5,000.

• TheMetalTheftDetailinitiatedandcompletedtwotacticalplansinresponsetorepeatedmetaltheftincidents.ThefirsttacticalplanwasconductedintheFoothillsAreaCommandalongtheJuanTaboBoulevardcorridorbetweenLomasBoulevardandMontgomeryBoulevard.AsecondtacticalplanwasconductedintheValleyAreaCommandandwasprimarilyfocusedatthebusinesseslocatedalong2ndStreetNW.

• PawnShopdetectivesmetwithseveralgoldandsilverentitiesandalegislativecommitteeregardingtheimportanceofensuringthatallgoldandsilverentitiesreporttotheLeadsOnlinedatabase.Themeetingswithlegislativecommitteeswillcontinueuntilthecompletionofthe2014NewMexicolegislativesession.

• TheMetalTheftDetailpurchasedandreceivedfourinfraredcamerastobeutilizedfortheidentificationofmetaltheftoffenders.Thecamerasweredeployedatsevendifferentlocations,resultinginseveralphotographsofoffenderscommittingactsofmetaltheft.Detectivesarefollowinguponthephotosandwillattempttoidentifytheoffenders.

• OnJanuary16,ActingSergeantR.CrawfordsentaforgerycasetotheDistrictAttorney’sOfficeinreferencetomultiplesubjectscashingstolen/forgedchecks.Duringtheinvestigation,DetectiveCrawfordwasabletoidentifyfoursubjectsthatcashedstolen/forgedchecksfromtheavictim’sstolencheckbook.ThesubjectswereallidentifiedusingAlbuquerquePoliceDepartmentdatabases.Oneofthesuspectscashedthestolen/forgedcheckinLosLunas.Acopyofthecasefilewasalsoprovidedto

• CACUwascalledouttoinvestigatethesexualabuseofafiveyearoldgirlbyherstep-grandfather.RioRanchoPoliceinitiallywereinvestigating,butdeterminedtheabuseoccurredinAlbuquerque.Thestep-grandfatherwasinterviewedafterbeingreleasedfromUNMHandconfessedtomultiplecrimesandwassubsequentlyarrested.

• TheChildExploitationDetail(CED)wasassigned27newcasesinJanuary.TheUnitcleared24cases,withthreecasesbeingsubmittedtotheDistrictAttorney’sOfficeforprosecution.Sevensearchwarrantswerewrittenandtwoarrestwarrantswerewritten.TheUnitcompleted17computer/cellphoneforensicexaminations.TheUnitcurrentlyhas27activecases.

• CEDinvestigatedadistributionofchildpornographycasewhenamanagerusedaphoneofaco-workerandsentpicturestohimselfwithouttheknowledgeoftheworker.Theworkerhappenedtobea16yearoldfemale.

• DetectiveRoberts,andtherestofCED,assumedacasefromCACUafteritwasdeterminedthatagymnasticsteacherwassuspectedoftouchingseveralgirlsthathecoached.Twosafehouseinterviewswereconductedandtwogooddisclosureswereobtained.Athirdsafehouseinterviewwasscheduledandthreeadditionalpossiblevictimswereidentified.

ArmedRobberyUnitwithatacticalplanduetotherecentincreaseinarmedrobberies.OntheeveningofJanuary21,afastfoodrestaurantatMontgomeryandWyomingwasrobbed.Asuspectvehicledescriptionwasprovided.ROPUnitdetectiveslocatedthesuspectvehicletravelingwestboundonMontgomeryapproachingSanMateo.SurveillancewasestablishedbytheRopUnit.TheoccupantsofthevehiclewenttotheareaofSanMateoandOsunaNEandappearedtobecasinganotherlocation.Thevehiclelefttheareaandtraveledtoanotherrestaurantlocation.Thepassengerofthevehicleexitedandrobbedthebusiness.Astheoffenderwalkedbacktothevehicle,hewastakenintocustody.Thedriverofthevehiclewasalsoapprehended.RobberyUnitdetectivesarrivedandtookovertheinvestigation.Thesuspectsarebelievedtohavebeeninvolvedinapproximately17recentarmedrobberies.

• OnJanuary27,ROPUnitdetectiveslocatedastolenvehicle.Surveillanceofthestolenvehiclewasmaintaineduntilthevehiclestopped.Theoffenderwasarrestedwithoutincidentandthevehiclewasrecovered.

• OnJanuary28,ROPUnitdetectiveslocatedamanthatwaswantedforanoutstandingfelonywarrantforaggravatedassaultonapeaceofficer.WiththeassistanceofSWAT,hewasarrestedwithoutincident.

• TheGangUnitconductedastolenvehicletacticalplaninJanuarywithSoutheastPRTandtheFoothillsImpactTeam.Theplanyielded10recoveredstolenvehiclesandnumerouspropertyitemstakeninautoburglariesandresidentialburglaries.

• OnJanuary23,GangUnitdetectiveslocatedandapprehendedasuspectwithawarrant.Thewarrantwasforaggravatedassaultwithadeadlyweapononahouseholdmember(fourcounts)andchildabuse(threecounts).

• DuringJanuary,theViceUnitmade15felonyarrests,18misdemeanorarrestsand18arrestsforprostitution.Theunitalsoarrested12peoplewithfelonywarrantsandsevenwithmisdemeanorwarrants.Unitdetectiveswroteandexecuted11searchwarrants.TheunitalsoparticipatedinawarrantroundupoperationwithHSIthatresultedinnumerousfelonyarrests.
