During this monthly reporting period (through 12/21/14), City Code Compliancestaff fielded a total of 26 code compliance requests. A total of 21 active caseswere closed over this same time period. For this calendar year, 394 codecompliance requests have been received, and 313 of these cases have beenclosed. For the requests logged this month, the average initial investigation turn-around time was 2 business days or less.

TRENDS:

The number of code compliance requests was the same as the previous month.The number of requests fluctuates from month to month. The most commontypes of requests include reports of unpermitted signage, Right-of-Way (ROW)encroachments, and lighting. Code Compliance staff have been working withDirecTV and their installers to ensure that new satellite TV antennas comply withCity standards for location. Concerns with vacation rentals also remainprominent.

NOTES:

In part to address concerns related to unpermitted construction, the Departmentimplemented a new notice posting requirement earlier this month. The new

requirement is to post a Notice of Authorized Work on-site for all projects thatrequire a Building Permit or for projects that only require a Planning Permit suchas fences and landscaping. This notice is provided at permit issuance, and mustbe displayed in a prominently visible location for the duration of the project (untilfinal inspection is obtained). The notice includes a brief description of work.Posting such a notice will be beneficial in assuring the community that a project

Public trees plantedFewer trees were planted in 2014 vs. 2013 primar ily due to the carryover trees stillrequiring watering due to the lack of significant rainfall and a reduction of staff watering

hours.

Public and Private Trees removedore trees have been removed in 2014 vs. 2013 primari ly due to effects of drough t and

increased stress on marginal trees . any old oaks have died due to significant stressfactors (insects, drought, disease, and poor cultural practices) .

Private Tree ReplacementTree removals that have a replacement requirement are all part of the new tree taggingprogram and hopefu lly will lead to enhanced recruitment and establishment of newtrees in to Carmel s urban forest.
