for Design Engineering at 3rd Sem of BE
Design Engineering at 3rd Sem of BE
The syllabus: available at the University’s web-site
Many workshops and lectures by experts for the last 2 years
41 Faculty Members from a number of Degree Engineering Colleges:
Worked for long hours at S4-C3
Looked at the open-source course on design available at Stanford
University site
Decided to develop sample problems for Design Engineering in a
systematic way – will be made available soon on GTU website
Expect that other Faculty Members across the State will develop even
better sample problems and share them
GTU appreciates the work of the 41 Faculty Members.
Symposium on Design Engineering course with
Dr. Akshai Aggarwal,
Honorable Vice-Chancellor of GTU
Teams @ Work The FDP had an interactive brainstorming session between teams
of 41 Faculty Members from different institutes and fields.

Design-Oriented and Project-based Learning at GTU
The degree engineering syllabi, being progressively implemented since August 2013, are based on the work done by Faculty Members since 2012: (Reports and results of all of the following activities are available on the web-site under different tabs.)
The Vice-Chancellor discussed about the issue of Design-based and Project-based learning for the new syllabi at the Syllabi Committee in August 2012.
GTU took some baby steps in the syllabi of the 1st sem syllabi, designed by the Syllabi Committee chaired by Prof Nilesh Bhatt and implemented in Aug 2013.
GTU created the document of Open Design School.
GTU took the help of Rohit Swarup, for a few workshops on Design, though we could not integrate his work in our system.
Prof C. Amarnath – IIT Bombay- visited us and helped us understand his ideas of Design.
Design-Oriented and Project-based
Learning at GTU …………………………2
GTU planned the Design Sessions in Nov 2013 and organised
them as a part of the 2-day Seminar on 8-9 Jan 2014.
Prof Nilesh Bhatt's Committee designed the syllabi for the 2nd
Year.
Prof C Amarnath gave sample problems.
Prof P.V.M. Rao (of IIT Delhi) came, delivered a workshop and
sent some sample problems.
GIC worked on canvases at S4 and the idea turned out to be
something which engaged the students' and Faculty Members'
interest.
Design-Oriented and Project-based
Learning at GTU …………………………3
It turned out that ideas of empathy, Ideation and product development led naturally to Design thinking. Then to add Business Model to this development created additional value and a continuum with the Final Year project.
GTU hit the bull's eye by integrating the whole of the process by bringing canvases to design. 41 Faculty Members from various branches worked in seven sessions, coordinated by Hiranmay Mahanta, Hon Director of GTU Innovation Council and Yash Saxena of OpenFuel.
The result of the work of the 41 Faculty Members is being compiled and will be made available on the web-site soon.
