About this WPD to PDF / WPS to Word tool

WordPerfect dominated word processing before Microsoft Word, and law firms and government offices produced mountains of .wpd documents well into the 2000s. Microsoft Works, the budget office suite bundled with cheap PCs, left behind just as many .wps files. Neither format opens in modern Word, and both suites are long discontinued.

This tool scans the binary document in your browser and recovers the document text stored in WordPerfect's and Works' text streams, presenting it cleanly so you can download it as a PDF or copy it into Word and save a modern .docx. Formatting codes from the original binary format are stripped out, leaving the words — which is what matters for archived letters, contracts and filings.

How to use it

  1. Drop your .wpd or .wps file onto this page and press Convert.
  2. Review the recovered document text in the preview.
  3. Download the PDF, or copy the text into Word / Google Docs to continue editing.

Frequently asked questions

Why won't Word open my WPD file?
Modern Microsoft Word dropped its WordPerfect import filters. LibreOffice still opens many WPD files on desktop; this tool gives you the text instantly in a browser when you just need to read or archive the document.
Will my formatting survive?
The recovered output is clean text: paragraphs and wording are preserved, original fonts and layout are not. For most archived documents the text is what you need.
What about very old WPD files (WordPerfect 5.x)?
DOS-era WordPerfect files store text differently and recovery may be partial. The tool extracts everything it can read and shows it in the preview so you can judge the result.
Is my document uploaded?
No — recovery happens locally in your browser.
