Getting Started with Adobe®Connect®

Welcome to Adobe Connect! Adobe Connect provides a way to interact visually and vocally in a virtual meeting space. Adobe Connect can be used for business meetings, distance learning, or any time a gathering of individuals needs to occur in a virtual space. Before your begin using Adobe Connect, navigate to http://admin.adobeconnect.com/common/help/en/support/meeting_test.htm and test your connection settings. If you do not pass the connection test, review the system requirements to ensure that your computer meets the minimum requirements.

Additional information on how to use Adobe Connect can be found by navigating to http://www.adobe.com/support/connect/gettingstarted/index.html. Adobe provides a quick start guide for using Adobe Connect that will be extremely helpful, if you have never before used Adobe Connect. You can access the quick start guide by navigating to http://seminars.adobe.acrobat.com/vqs-participants/.

Adobe Connect Voice over IP (VoIP) Session Setup Adobe Connect provides the ability to connect to the audio session using your computer, a microphone, and speakers. This option is called “Voice over IP.” Complete the steps below to use the “Voice over IP” audio conference option.

1. You will need to use your computer in order to connect to the audio conference portion of the Adobe Connect meeting. Connect your microphone and speakers (or an all-in-one headset) before joining the Adobe Connect session.

2. When you log into an Adobe Connect session, the Join Audio Conference screen displays. Select the Using Computer radio button and then select Join to indicate that you will be using the VoIP option.

3. You should now be able to hear the meeting host when he/she begins to speak. If you do not hear any sound: verify that the meeting host is speaking; that the volume on your speakers is on and at an adequate volume; that your computer passes the Adobe Connect connection test; verify that your computer meets the hardware and software requirements for the course.

Adobe Connect Dial-out Audio Session Setup Adobe Connect provides the ability to connect to the audio session by having a phone call placed to your LAN line or cell phone. This option is called “Dial-out.” Complete the steps below to use the “Dial-out” audio conference option.

1. You will need to use a telephone in order to connect to the audio conference portion of the Adobe Connect meeting. When you log into an Adobe Connect session, the Join Audio Conference screen displays.

2. Select the Dial-out [Receive a call from the meeting] radio button and then enter your phone number into the Enter phone number field. The phone number format to be used is displayed under the Enter phone number field. Next, select the Join button. The audio conference portion of the Adobe Connect session will call your phone and connect you to the audio conference.

Adobe Connect Dial-in Audio Session Setup Adobe Connect provides the ability to connect to the audio session by placing a call from your LAN line or cell phone. This option is called “Dial-in.” Complete the steps below to use the “Dial-in” audio conference option.

1. You will need to use a telephone in order to connect to the audio conference portion of the Adobe Connect meeting. A conference number for each Adobe Connect session will be provided to you. However, if you are located outside of the United States, you will need to locate a local access number to use. Select the More dial-in information… hyperlink to display additional call-in access numbers.

2. When you log into an Adobe Connect session, the Join Audio Conference screen displays and contains the telephone number associated with that Adobe Connect session and your Token Number. You will need to dial the local access telephone number, first. Once connected, dial the Adobe Connect conference call number displayed on the screen. Then, enter the Token Number on your telephone’s keypad. You will not be prompted to enter the Token Number. You can enter it at any time during the call, unless otherwise instructed.

3. You should now be able to hear the meeting host when he/she begins to speak. If you do not hear any sound: verify that the meeting host is speaking; that the volume on your speakers is on and at an adequate volume; that your computer passes the Adobe Connect connection test; verify that your computer meets the hardware and software requirements for the course.

Configuring Adobe Connect Audio The first time you use Adobe Connect, you may need to configure your audio settings. Adobe Connect contains an audio configuration wizard that will assist you in achieving the best audio possible. Complete the following steps to configure your audio.

1. Log into your Adobe Connect session. After logging in, select the Meeting option from the tool bar. A drop-down menu displays.

2. From the drop-down menu, select Audio Setup Wizard… The Audio Setup Wizard screen displays.

3. Select the Next button. The Audio Setup Wizard Step 1 (4) screen displays. This screen provides the ability to test the sound output of your speakers.

4. Select the Play Sound button. The Audio Wizard will play a sound to verify your speakers are working correctly.

5. When the Audio Wizard has finished testing the sound output of your speakers, a new message appears on the screen.

6. Select the Next button. The Audio Setup Wizard – Step 2 (4) screen displays.

7. Use the Select default device drop-down menu and to choose the microphone that will be used with Adobe Connect. The name displayed in the drop-down menu will vary, depending on the name and brand of your microphone. If a microphone is not connected, the Select default device drop-down menu will be empty. Connect your microphone and run the Audio Wizard again.

8. After selecting the name of your microphone, select the Next button. The Audio Setup Wizard – Step 3(4) screen displays.

9. Depending upon your computer’s settings, the Adobe Flash Player Settings screen may display. If this screen displays, select the Allow button to grant permission to Adobe Flash Player to access your camera and microphone for use in Adobe Connect sessions.

10. The Audio Setup Wizard – Step 3 (4) screen is used to verify that your microphone is working properly. Select the Record button and speak into the microphone. A recording is made from the sound detected by the microphone.

11. After you have recorded a sufficient amount of sound, select the Stop button to end the recording. Select the Play Recording button to hear the sound that was captured.

12. Select the Next button. The Audio Setup Wizard – Step 4 (4) screen displays.

13. The Audio Setup Wizard – Step 4 (4) screen helps to determine the amount of background noise in your environment. Select the Test Silence button to begin the test.

14. When the silence test is complete, select the Next button.

15. The Audio Setup Wizard process is now complete. Select the Finish button to exit the Wizard.

Configuring the Adobe Connect Audio Preferences Adobe Connect provides the ability to adjust your audio preferences. The default audio settings do not need to be adjusted for most users. However, if you are experiencing poor audio quality, complete the following steps to adjust your audio preferences.

1. Launch Adobe Connect and select Meeting from the tool bar. A drop-down menu displays.

2. Select Preferences from the drop-down menu. The Preferences screen displays.

3. Select Audio, located on the left side of the screen. The Advanced Audio Settings display.

4. Select the Use Enhanced Audio checkbox. Next, select the Acoustic Echo Cancellation Mode drop-down menu.

Select Full Duplex from the drop-down menu. This is the recommended setting. However, if you are experiencing an unusual amount of unwanted background noise, select Half Duplex. The Headphones setting uses the same settings as Full Duplex, but is designed for headphone users.

5. Select the Automatic Gain Control checkbox. Automatic Gain Control adjusts the sound volume being transmitted through your microphone as your voice level changes.

6. Next, make a selection from the Audio Quality drop-down menu located directly beneath the Automatic Gain Control checkbox. Select the Fast option if you have a slower Internet connection speed. Select the Best option if you have a fast Internet connection speed. Select the Custom option if you wish to manually configure the audio quality specifications.

7. Select the Use Speex Codec in this Meeting Room option to enable Voice over IP (VoIP) enhanced technologies that add to the sound quality. Then, select the Fast option if you have a slower Internet connection speed. Select the Best option if you have a fast Internet connection speed. Select the Custom option if you wish to manually configure the audio quality specifications.

8. Once you have finished configuring all the settings on the Advanced Audio Settings screen, select the Done button to save your changes.

The audio preferences configuration process is now complete.

System Requirements Verify that your computer meets the following system requirements. You will need to meet these system requirements to use Adobe Connect.

• Hardware Requirements o 1.4GHz Intel® Pentium® 4 or faster processor (or equivalent) for Microsoft®

Windows® XP, Windows 7 or Windows 8; 2GHz Pentium 4 or faster processor (or equivalent) for Windows Vista®

o 512MB of RAM (1GB recommended) for Windows XP, Windows 7 or Windows 8; 1GB of RAM (2GB recommended) for Windows Vista

o Webcam o Microphone (an all-in-one headset can be used in place of a microphone)
