How To Interact as a ‘Participant’ in Adobe Connect?

This article describes how to interact as a ‘Participant’ in ICANN Adobe Connect rooms.

1. Select the link in your meeting invite, or open a web browser, type in the following URL; icann.adobeconnect.com/’Meeting Name’

Example: icann.adobeconnect.com/ConnectTraining

Note: Mozilla Firefox, Safari, Microsoft Internet Explorer, are supported by Adobe Connect. Mobile devices are also supported: http://www.adobe.com/products/adobeconnect/mobile-meetings.html Recommended Internet connection minimum is DSL/Cable.

2. ‘Enter as a Guest’, by typing your Full Name ! ‘Enter Room’

3. If you have credentials for Adobe Connect, Select ‘Enter with your login and password’

Note: Guests failure to enter their full name may lead to removal from the Adobe Connect room or those that do not abide by ICANN Rules of Conduct.

4. After signing into the meeting room, select Meeting ! ‘Audio Setup Wizard’

5. Continue through the 4-Step ‘Audio Wizard’ process to set up a quality audio for this meeting.

6. After completing the ‘Audio Setup Wizard’ ! Select the Telephone icon ! ‘Connect My Audio…’

7.  Adobe Flash Player Settings will ask for permission to access you Camera and microphone. ! Select ‘Allow’.

Note: Selecting ‘Deny’ will disable your ability to interact in the adobe room.

8. Select which way you would like to interact with the meeting. In some cases, not all options are available. Selecting ‘Dial in’ will require you to call the conference phone bridge. This is the preferred method for all users. (When selecting this feature, your computer speakers will

automatically muted. DO NOT TURN your speakers back on during this time, as it will cause feedback

and audio issues for all users.

9. Selecting ‘Using Microphone’ will enable your computer audio devices. It is REQUIRED to have HEADPHONES to use this feature, (Preferably headphones with a microphone). Failure to do so will result in audio problems for all users, and may cause you to be disabled from interacting within the room. If you do not wish to verbally interact in the room you should select ‘Listen Only’

Basic User Features:

Mute My Speakers: Speaker Icon ! ‘Mute My Speakers’

[Mutes the audio coming from your computer speakers or headphones]

Mute Conference Audio Only: Speaker Icon ! ‘Mute Conference Audio Only’

[Silences the meeting room audio for you only – This should be enabled if you dialed into the phone bridge]

Adjust Speaker Volume: Speaker Icon ! ‘Adjust Speaker Volume…’

Mute My Microphone: Microphone Icon ! ‘Mute My Microphone’

[Mutes your ability to be heard in the room]

This icon will appear if you are muted.

It is advised to keep yourself muted unless you are actively speaking. If you have been muted by a Host, you

are either being too loud/noisy or are causing interference in the room. ‘Raise your hand’ to request to be

placed in the speaking queue or to be unmuted after you have adjusted your microphone levels.

HOW TO – ADOBE CONNECT PARTICIPANT 5  

Select Microphone: Microphone Icon ! ‘Select Microphone’ ! ‘Built-in Microphone’ (or preferred Microphone)

Adjusting Mic Volume: Microphone Icon ! ‘Adjust Microphone Volume…’

[This adjusts your speaking volume in the room. This can ONLY BE ADJUSTED BY YOU. If you are too loud

in the room, you will be muted until you can lower your microphone volume.]

! Be sure to speak clearly and slowly into your microphone, and as a courtesy to the room, do not enable your microphone in a loud environment.

Room Interaction: Select the Person icon ! ‘Raise your hand’ to speak in the room, or ask a question in the Chat pod. You may also notify the room with the other listed options. Be sure to ‘Clear your Status’ when you have been acknowledged. [Sometimes your status will be adjusted by

the Host]

6 HOW TO – ADOBE CONNECT PARTICIPANT  

Internet Connection Status: Green/Yellow/Red Bar next to ‘Help’

If your status is not green, you are having internet connectivity issues locally. This will cause your audio to drop or be delayed, failure to load images properly, and numerous other issues. You should acquire a new network connection or call into the Phone Bridge. ICANN is unable to help if you are having internet connectivity issues.

Chat Pod Features:

Private Chat: Select a Participant and a popup menu will appear ! Select ‘Private Chat’

Attendee Pod Features:

Change your Screen Name: Select the Notes Icon in the upper right corner of the Attendees Pod ! “Edit My Info…’

Change your View: Select the Notes Icon in the upper right corner of the Attendees Pod ! ‘Change View’
